The transfer of Mikel Arteta to Arsenal this week has many a Fantasy manager eyeing up the new Gunners midfielder. Priced at just 8.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Arteta looks, potentially, a real value for money option this season, bringing a much-needed maturity to the Arsenal playmaker role in light of Cesc Fabregas’ departure to Barcelona.

In today’s Members Article, we delve into the statistics from last season, looking at a variety of factors to ascertain whether they offer a hint at just what Arteta could offer Arsenal –and, of course, Fantasy managers- in the campaign ahead:

    yes dzeko might get rested.
BUT nasri, silva, balotelli and aguero all have 2 internationals this week too so they might too.

but seriously dzeko's risk is no different to rooney, rvp, silva etc. all have 2 internationals, all have champions league game, all have player "who need games" to come, all have very winnable fixtures etc.
meh, we could see a few 60min substitutions

Yeah, i think 60mins displays are far more likely, but it's fun sowing the seeds of doubt re Dzeko. Plus, City have far more strength in depth than any other team in the league, that's what you get when you spend the GDP of a small country. So they do have more rotation threat imo.

I was actually talking about the Kadlec who plays left back, the one who scored today. Although I think it may have been on an older FM game. Just fired the game up and he's pretty crap on 2011.

that was all brought about by some scottish player (didn't see who) not clearing the ball properly, a simple punt up the pitch and he sliced it , total numpty, at the time i thought oops and the next thing was they were getting a pen. scotland all over. besides that we need to learn how to hold the ball better, gave posession away far too easily and too often today.

I'm not sure if it's necessarily a good or bad thing for Cameroon. Because a few second place teams with the most points qualify, it's all about their final game, away to Congo.

Win and they're through, fail to win, and they're out.

I friggin hate this game this year. Played my WC early (like last year) over the international break. My tactics are - play the first few weeks like stock markets & catch price rises. By end of last season I could afford 4 top mids & 3 top strikers. Anyone else playing this way?

    WC:
    Krul - Vorm
    Bosingwa - Enrique - Simpson - N.Taylor - De Laet
    Silva - Nasri - Young - Petrov - Dyer
    Rooney - Suarez - Dzeko

Now, I quite fancy Walcott or Arteta for one of my "big 3" mids but I don't know which one, or which one of my current 3 I would drop. So, I'll stay as is until (a) I see how Arsenal line up and how they gel and (b) which of my big 3 I should lose (if any).

    Make sense?

I'm in a VERY similar boat! We have same team except for Taylor & Enrique!! I'm wondering whether to keep Nasri & Silva for the 'easy' GW4 game, then shift (probably Nasri) to Arteta. Also want some Chelski covet (Mata), so debating downgrading young...

+ I don't think Smalling did a particularly good job against Arsenal. He just let Arshavin cut inside run at goal. Crazy tactic considering Arshavin is, for the most part, extremely predictable.

Emphasis on the "2". He can't take much credit for the Rooney/Bashley masterclass at the other end.

If Arshavin was actually any good, it could have been more.

Dislocated his shoulder, but yeah he is a rotation worry obviously when he is back. Thing with Fergie is, if someone is playing well, he finds it hard to drop them. He said that himself, and Gnev said it on MNF. So if Smalling keeps playing well, he'll continue to play.

X factor tonight. Girl from Buckhaven describes Fife as a 'bit of a dive'. As a proud Scot, can I publically disown this eejit. Anyone who has ever visited St Andrews, Crail, Pittenweem, Anstruther, Elie etc will have cringed at her comment.

Tulisa had never heard of Fife. That also is shocking. Talk about living in a London bubble and the section was given a 'get the poor girl out of Fife and into a better life' feel. Rant over.

A front line of Rooney, Suarez, RVP may be very shrewd next few weeks thinking about it.

I was all for Dzeko but the masses will have him and I do agree there's a fair chance of rotation, and RVP could do extremely well.

I've already WC'd, but it'll only take me 4 transfers to get to this *potential* team:

    Al-Habsi - Vorm
Enrique - Smalling - Kompany - Simpson - De Laet
    Silva - Mata - Arteta - Moses - Dyer
    Rooney - Suarez - Adebayor

1 big hitter from each of the top 6 sides, and 1mil in the bank to take into account price rises while I maybe try and get this lot together over the next few weeks!

"Arsenal’s medical team are hoping that when he starts a light training programme in mid-October, the rest will have sorted the problem.

But if Wilshere breaks down again, then the insertion of a screw into the joint may be needed – and that could keep him out until December."

Wenger tried to sign him as a short term replacement for Cesc a few years ago. I'd say he sees him as a stop-gap until Ramsey or Wilshere is ready to take over full-time as main creator.

hmm interesting, cheers for the insight MF I was thinking of going with Walcott AND Ramsey (thinking Ramsey would be playing ahead of Arty whose excellent distribution would set up lots of good counter attacks) but if Ramsey is to be more of a holding player then I think I'll give him a miss.

Ps I Don't think Ramsey is mature enough to play the creative mid role behind Arteta either so it probably doesn't bode that well for Arsenal if thats the way they will line up.

Obviously they'll swap around - Song will bomb forward as well, no doubt - but for the most part, I'd say Arteta will be the furthest forward.

Like with Wilshere, I think Wenger will use Ramsey in a deeper role to give him more time on the ball, and push him forward as he develops.

Yeah makes sense MF. I think I'll hold fire on him for now so until we see how things develop.

Either way it's positive for Walcott, Arshavin and RVP imo and makes investment in them a lot more viable.

Dzeko (pronounced 'Ian Olney'): The capacity for non-idependent thought, the ability to only be able too see things if they are smashed in your face like a frying pan. Results in shooting one's wildcard load earlier than desired. Leads to an intial 0.2 gratification, but ulitmate disappointment.

Any parents out there? I have become an Arse member because my 9 year old son supports them and we need to see live games. I support Liverpool. Am going to see Arse v Bol and am looking forward to it. My excuse is that L'pool is feccking miles away from Essex.

I like woman A but my son prefers woman B so, being ultimatley attractive (and very desirable to both, mind you), I date woman B whilst still wanting woman A... who I keep in contact with via email & text.

Shagging woman B is alright but there isn't the passion.

I'm originally from just outside Glasgow. When I was wee my dad started taking me round all the grounds in Scotland over the course of three of four seasons. Those were great days out and a good way to visit all the different interesting cities and towns that you would probably never go to otherwise

It did however end up in us both becoming St Johnstone fans which, to be honest, has been a bit of a millstone for the past 17 years or so

Great to take your kids to the footie though, no matter who it is. I'm sure King Kenny would understand

I'm from a family of Wrist Ham fans, who straight up refused to take me to Arsenal games as a kid. I had to get my next door neighbour to take me.

The missus is getting broody now, and I do have fears about any future children not being Arsenal fans.

              😆

My first football memories were Arsenal winning the FA Cup in '93 and the Cup Winners' Cup in '94. To see a club just down the road from me do that, pushed me away from my dad's team, who were in Division One.

There's an anarchic streak to me as well, which probably helped. My younger brother is a Wrist Ham fan too, despite growing up around Arsenal's double winning sides in 1998 and 2002.
