Laurent Koscielny is rated as doubtful for Arsenal’s home clash with Sunderland due to illness. Liam Bridcutt is ruled out for the Black Cats, though Jack Rodwell returns after a hamstring injury.

In his Tuesday pre-match press conference, Arsene Wenger confirmed that Laurent Koscielny is considered a doubt for tonight’s clash against the Wearsiders due to illness:

“We have an uncertainty about Laurent Koscielny that we will check today.”

The centre-half was then pictured in training later in the day, boosting his chances of making this evening’s match as the Gunners look for the win that would clinch third spot.

Wenger went on to admit that Mathieu Debuchy won’t be back in full training until Friday before conceding that he’s uncertain whether Danny Welbeck or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will prove their fitness in time for the upcoming FA Cup final on May 30:

“They are progressing well but they will not be available for Wednesday. I don’t know yet, let’s see how they all recover next week. Danny Welbeck is not available yet, he is not in full training, so I honestly don’t know. They all have to get fit very quickly now because there is not a long way to go [to the final]”.

Sunderland’s problems in central midfield are building ahead of the Emirates clash. Liam Bridcutt, who stood in for the injured Jordi Gomez at home to Leicester on Saturday, has been ruled out, though Jack Rodwell is back in contention after missing out recently with a hamstring problem.

Black Cats boss Dick Advocaat has hinted he may be ready to hand Adam Johnson his first start since the Dutchman’s arrival:

“He’s in the squad and when you are in the squad, there’s always a chance you will start.This team works so hard and you have to be fair to all of them, but Adam is a player who can do something different for us. His style is different from others – you saw that when he came on against Leicester.”

Advocaat also confirmed that Billy Jones has recovered from the knock that forced him off against the Foxes. With his first-choice right-back available, the Dutchman admitted that, although he won’t be parking the box tonight, his players need to be defensively aware:

“I still think we have to think about goal difference. I think we have to try to get a goal there [at Arsenal]. But we can’t give the game away 2-0, let’s put it like that. And certainly not like we did against Crystal Palace. We have to stay clever to the end. Arsenal have too much individual skill to do that (park the bus). But we have to try and make it as hard as possible for them defensively.”

    What do you reckon is the % chance of Kolarov starting next game? Really want him but that pesky Clichy..

      i reckon he will
      pel seems to have been tinkering with team for each opponent during season, but hasnt really done that for past few weeks and they hasve been winning.
      also may be possibility he needs to justify staying there ,so finishing as close to chelsea may help in some way.

        To be fair, don't know how either would be in the PL. Wouldn't worry about Konoplyanka, Pool linked to him every season since he was a month old.

      As a ukrainian i can say that Konoplyanka is more versatile and unpredictable player, while Yarmolenko is like a Robben, one trick and shot from left foot. First is a more talented player, second will score more.

          coin toss really.
          i do think dawson has slightly better chance of CS than both them but not sure if that justifies playing him. suppose there is more chance of bertie being involved in counter attack goal, though going by spton recent performances every teams seems to have cut off that attack option

      In Top 10k Approx 1 in 2 own Panti or Ospina
      1 in 2 own Giroud
      Majority own Sanchez and at least 1 of Ozil, Ramsey, Cazorla as well.

      I'd estimate that the average will be 3 point something - maybe as much as 4.

          What if Giroud scores one goal and has a generally strong game in addition to that? Not being sarcastic. Just interested in assessing the threshold for moving gru. I have him as well am inclined to sell to a hotter lukaku, too, regardless of girouds performance tonight.

            Gru has been a differential to my ML leader the last four games and haven't produced anything + his stats are dull. Lukaku's stats are great + I've got nothing to lose, so I'm probably gonna do it either way, even for the fun of it. Trying to catch a 35-40 pts lead in my ML. Already have Ozil and Sanchez, if Ars does something against WBA it might as well be one of them.

              I support that thinking. I also feel that there is a greater likelihood for a lukaku haul over a Giroud haul. Pretty much thinking everything that Coldplay said in this thread.

        Rotation risk cos of FA Cup. Not on form. Facing a Pulis team. Lukaku is bang on form and facing a crappy defense. That's my thinking. But I could see the temptation to keep Giroud.

    How stupid is this for a final gameweek punt?

    Cresswell -> Kolarov
    Gerrard -> Hazard
    Kane -> Ulloa

      Who are you captaining in GW38? Few good candidates -

      Aguero (SOT)
      Hazard (SUN)
      Sanchez (WBA)

      I dont think people need to take huge punts on their capts just make sure you pick the opposite one to your rival

        Always Aguero unless it's a DGW.

        i'll probably be going Aguero but would consider Hazard depending on how I do tonight and how far behind the top 1k I am

        I'm avoiding ARS due to possible rotation and the WBA defence. Kun or Haz for me

        We just need to avoid a thrashing as goal difference could still come into play over newcastle but I am worried.

          It's not newcastle you should be worried about it's hull.

        I think we need to be prepared for possible Arsenal rotation. I think Ozil is probably least likely to be rested, though.

        I predict I'll be level on points in a money league coming into the weekend.

        (He's made less transfers - does that mean he wins it if it stays level)

        Me: Myhill, Ivanovic, Schlupp, Kolarov, Hazard, Ndoye

        Him: Panti, Terry, Skrtel, C Dawson, Silva, Kane

        Who wins??
