The transfer of Mikel Arteta to Arsenal this week has many a Fantasy manager eyeing up the new Gunners midfielder. Priced at just 8.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Arteta looks, potentially, a real value for money option this season, bringing a much-needed maturity to the Arsenal playmaker role in light of Cesc Fabregas’ departure to Barcelona.

In today’s Members Article, we delve into the statistics from last season, looking at a variety of factors to ascertain whether they offer a hint at just what Arteta could offer Arsenal –and, of course, Fantasy managers- in the campaign ahead:

My current dilema: I have 10m to spend on a midfielder and it will be Nasri, Silva or Arteta - I already have Dzeko and no Arsenal players. Who would you go with?

Out of those, I'd go with Silva.

Following the transfer deadline I'm sensing the same kind of bandwagoning that went on pre season and prompted so many to get Taarabt, Sinclair etc in.

Lots of talk about 'how do I get Arteta in' etc. As yet we have no idea where Arteta will play. He has no Arsenal stats to back him up so anyone getting him should consider his transfer in a risk in FPL terms.

For me he is a wait and see.

I've got 2 frees this week, but I'm planning one to get Dzeko in for Bent - I'm not even that bothered if he is rotated occasionally. His second season stats at all his clubs are eye watering.

Saving my 2 for gw5 when I'll know a little more about where Barton, SWP, Arteta, Adebayor, Bellamy etc fit in and perform in their new teams.

I also suspect anyone wildcarding this week may regret it considering all these unknowns that have arisen post deadline.

I have 2 frees this week as well, Torres to Dzeko was one of them and like you the rotation doesn't concern me much.

As for Arteta - valid points however I think the risk that he's NOT worth 8m at Arsenal is actually quite low. We've seen this week how quickly prices can rise and at this stage of the season I think it's acceptable to take a few chances to get ahead of the game.

Arsenal's fixtures mixed with Arteta's proven FF potential means he's not a huge risk at £8m.

It's him or Walcott for me, but both need a points hit to fund them. It's the time of the season to take them I feel.

You will be relying a lot more on Arteta's points from open play. Which aren't great. Admittedly he will be surrounded by better players but he is definitely one that can wait. I would love Walcott this week. Fancy him to tear Swansea one.

Fair points and I'm partially inclined to wait and see with him. But Swansea (h) is as juicy as it gets and Wenger surely has to play him. I'd expect him to take dead balls on the opposite side to Van Persie and he's now got a massive Per to aim at.

We're all hoping the Arteta from the end of the 09-10 season can return, when he went points crazy. Maybe that guy's gone for good.

Walcott could score heavily this week, you're right.

      Both.

But if you have to choose, City are playing much more attacking football this season, so probably won't match last year in the CS stakes.

Bosingwa also offers greater attacking returns, but is more of a rotation risk.

So, Bosingwa for now, but keep an eye on him for injuries and rotation once the CL starts.

          Overkill.

Assuming your strikeforce is set, Go with Walcott if you must have Arsenal coverage this week but Arteta should bring a consistent haul of points. Fabregasian numbers are unrealistic, however.

see my thoughts above re arteta...big risk as no Arsenal stats to back him up. I'd prefer to save some money and go for Jarvis until you know how Arteta will perform with his new team.
Same with Sturridge...how sparingly will he be used...we just don't know.

Agree with you mate. I do like taking a few points and really think avb has been waiting for sturridge to become available.

Arteta and Walcott was the result of trying to decide between Rooney or young or rvp or Walcott + arteta. I liking the odds of getting points from the Swansea match with both

I never go too big on defence but Baines, Kompany and Bos is overkill at the moment. Want to sell Baines but jus cannot do it over the next 2 weeks, especially now Arteta has gone.

I've got Baines, Kompany and Bosingwa and I don't think it's overkill. Not yet, at least. Baines is the one most under threat but you just know if you take him out he'll score big.

If I am honest I just don't find FPL as exciting unless I have loads of big attacking names spread across all the big teams. I hate watching games and not having a big FPL interest likely to score attacking points. Walters and Moses are the only cheap mid I am happy to stick by at the moment.

I'd hang onto Yaya-he had 10 shots on goal last home game v SWN. Looks like he may play a very attacking role for home games.

I can guarantee there will be an injury prior to the next GW that ruins a lot of plans and transfers. RVP the most likely contender unfortunately. Would make life easier not having to worry about him though.

    Rooney - Holt - Bent

Would the best transfer be Lampard out, Silva inn?

I reckon with your strong defence (same as mine) you can't really afford Lampard as well as Rooney.

Silva and Suarez/Dzeko would be better value. If you keep Rooney and got Dzeko in for Bent and Silva in for Lamps you'd have 3.5 or so to up grade Sessegnon to Young/Nasri/Mata/Theo/Arteta...

Having a very bad start to the season compared to my league rivals so have reluctantly decided to play my wildcard. All the players I wanted in the long run are due a price rise so was worried I may not be able to build the team I wanted based onthe rather poor choice I made initially:

    Given (Vorm)

Bosingwa, S Taylor, De Laet (Brown, Enrique)

    Young, Silva, Henderson, Anderson, (Moses)

    Rooney, Suarez, Dzeko (c)

    Here's my reasoning:

    Defence -
Bosingwa is a must with good attacking returns in a solid side and AVB wants to attack more.
Enrique 5 mill for a top 5 team is a bargain.
S Taylor should get about 3 goals for the season and they look good defensively so far.
W Brown - rotates well with Taylor so can always have a decent 4.5 defender at home to compliment my Bos and Enrique
De Laet - a good 4.0 def am tempted by Swansea Taylor but already have Vorm

    Mids -
Young - looks the most nailed on of the United mids. Can someone tell me who takes their corners?
Silva - I know everyone is going for Nasri but from the last game Silva had more goal attempts. Also think he should be rotated less and is more settled.
Henderson - Big risk here and I guess Gerrard will replace him? may swap for Brunt who is morenailed on.
Anderson - another risk but I feel he may get rotated less than Cleverly. Fletcher is his main rival.
Moses - Would only consider N Dyer at 4.5 as the best cheapie but will stick with Moses for now may Luxor a bench role

The attackers speak for themselves really.

    Captains -
Very important in my opinion to have a good choice of potential captains. I would choose from Rooney, Suarez, Dszeko (Silva and Young is a captain problem as I would usually choose a striker over them).

      Good team. Good logic.

You've doubled up on Utd, with no Arsenal or Chelsea coverage. I'd be contemplating RVP, Mata or Walcott/Arteta.

      Is Brown 100% nailed on?

I reckon Norwich could ship a load of goals. I'd get. Simpson and think about an alternative 4.5 def.

Good point. I am worried about my lack of Ars, Che coverage. I could shoehorn in Arteta:

        Henderson to Arteta
        Enrique to Simpson

I would have two Newcastle defenders though which makes me nervous and I would have to play Brown and S Taylor together. Maybe the Swansea Taylor instead but then I have Vorm.

        Or

        Anderson to N Dyer

Which means I would either have to play S Taylor and Brown together or play Moses or N Dyer

    Roo Suarez Dzeko

I have .4m left, and having missed out on Rooney and well behind on all mini leaguers who captained him, really want RVP for fixtures

You could do Silva & Young to Yaya & Mata/Walcott/Arteta to free up cash. I'd advocate BBB, and also reckon it's well worth 1.0 to upgrade Ferguson to Moses as there's an outside chance he might actually get you some points.
