The transfer of Mikel Arteta to Arsenal this week has many a Fantasy manager eyeing up the new Gunners midfielder. Priced at just 8.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Arteta looks, potentially, a real value for money option this season, bringing a much-needed maturity to the Arsenal playmaker role in light of Cesc Fabregas’ departure to Barcelona.

In today’s Members Article, we delve into the statistics from last season, looking at a variety of factors to ascertain whether they offer a hint at just what Arteta could offer Arsenal –and, of course, Fantasy managers- in the campaign ahead:

I've 4.4m in the bank for some crazy reason.

Is it worth a 4pt hit to do Moses -> Arteta/Walcott

Everybody gave up on Moses. The logic is that its about time for him to produce.

yeah, ManU game was a bit of an anomaly.

Annoying, might take a while to claw those 40/50 points back. I don't really have the enthusiasm for it this year...

I like A. I think Mata will be a big hit and Suarez is going to be a star this season. The only concern about Dzeko is what will happen when Tevez comes back, will there be a lot of rotation.

So, I've worked it so I have the cash to transfer zamora (yes I still have him!) for either van persie or rooney. Fixtures point conclusively to van persie and they still had plenty of shots and scored two at old Trafford despite getting thrashed so I'm not worried about them in attacking terms.

but I'm very tempted to jump aboard the rooney bandwagon.

Surely van persie makes more sense though... right?

Besides on who your other players are. I think Rooney is essential and a season-keeper, whereas RVP isn't until Arsenal's form picks up.

The problem with your comment is that you can't wait for rvp to score big before getting him, that's how you get left behind. On the other hand Rooney is about to come up against trickier defensive teams and will not be banging in 2/3 goals per game but he is still capable of scoring

I belive that RVP is solic captain choice in the next 5 of 8 games. If it was last year I would say surely go for him, the fixtures are great but now I really don't now. Could pay off big, or u will fall behind.

Silva, Nasri, Dzeko and Aguero are much safer captaincy choices for this GW, IMO. Swansea don't exactly have the worst of defences. They've kept 2 clean sheets so far, and were resilient against Manchester City.

Rooney has scored against Tottenham and Arsenal so far, and is basically fixture-proof. RVP, on the other hand, is a riskier choice, which is what I'm trying to say. Both may score big over the next few weeks, but RVP has lower ownership, so there is less damage if you don't have him. On the other hand, 40% of players have Rooney, so if you don't have him while he scores big, then you're definitely going to be left behind.

But I hear what you are saying, when I say get left behind you don't do well in fantasy football waiting for someone to score big Then getting them in.

I don't see him as essential. I know he's playing great but remember in general those free kicks won't be going in anywhere nr as regularly. He still won't be as prolific as 2 seasons ago imo since he was a poacher then and now he relies a lot more on set pieces and long shots.

Warnock’s defence has also been boosted by the recruitment of Anton Ferdinand and Armand Traore, along with Luke Young, who was brought in earlier in the week. Ferdinand looks set to slot straight into the back-four and form a new partnership with one of Danny Gabbidon or Fitz Hall. Young and Traore will claim the full-back roles, leaving the likes of Bradley Orr, Clint Hill and Matt Connolly relegated to the bench.

It's funny how these bandwagons seem to work. A player does well (often because he had good fixtures, or played unusually well in a game or 2) and everyone buys him (often when he has harder upcoming fixtures)

Then other players do well, often because they have easier fixtures, something we were already aware of! And so the cycle continues.

Basically people usually buy a player just *after* a purple patch when the aim is clearly to buy them just before. It's ok chasing price rises but remember of you sign someone before a good run of scoring, his price will rise naturally.

With the exception of players clearly underpriced (bosingwa, dzeko, petrov, maybe suarez for example if they all keep playing regularly) I think signing for a price rise needs to be for players with good upcoming fixtures. I don't think the likes of rooney or young are underpriced, and their fixtures are bad.

You mean this season? If so, its 3 gws. Changing your strategy because of 3gws will mean a lot of changes!

Imo keep the faith with your original strategy. Look at last season and you probably had several weeks with bad scores, its part of the game.
