Arsenal fail to find the net at home to Sunderland as their double Gameweek 37 ends in bitter disappointment. A third successive shut-out helps the Black Cats defence prosper and seal their top-flight survival for another season.

Arsenal’s misfiring attack repelled by Black Cats

Arsene Wenger elected to reshuffle his starting XI for the first match in seven matches – drafting in Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs – as the Gunners were held to a 0-0 stalemate by a determined Sunderland outfit. The North London club failed to net in three consecutive home league ties for the first time in six years, much to the disappointment of those mangers who’d backed their plethora of attacking talent to flourish in the double. Arsenal’s midfield starters conspired to deliver zero attacking returns across the board after an own goal from United’s Tyler Blackett earned them a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Olivier Giroud once again flattered to deceive as the spearhead of the Gunners’ attack, extending his goalless streak to six matches. Despite Arsenal’s dominance of possession (75%) and chances (28 to Sunderland’s seven), the French marksman only mustered three attempts at goal (one on target) – one fewer than Black Cats’ second-half substitute Steven Fletcher.

On a positive note, investors in Arsenal’s back line profited from their first clean sheet in four matches, with bonus points going the way of Laurent Koscielny (three), Hector Bellerin (two), Kieran Gibbs and Per Mertesacker (one apiece) for their exploits at the Emirates.

The threat of rotation in the Baggies clash weighs heavy after Wenger conceded that it’s “possible” he’ll rest players on the weekend after admitting his team look fatigued.

In light of Giroud’s downturn in form and Arsenal’s upcoming FA Cup Final against Aston Villa (30 May), Wenger could well be tempted to rest his premier frontman for West Brom’s visit. That being said – unless Wenger wishes to field Theo Walcott or Alexis Sanchez up top – there isn’t a natural stand-in within the Gunners’ squad, given that Danny Welbeck has yet to return to training as he recuperates from a knee injury. The likes of Walcott, Wilshere and Tomas Rosicky will be pushing for starts against the Baggies after featuring last night and those who invested heavily in Arsenal for the double could now be at the mercy of Wenger’s weekend tinkering.

Steadfast Sunderland banish relegation fears

In much the same way Hull City’s rearguard defied the odds in their double Gameweek 34 and secured back-to-back cleans sheets, Sunderland’s resolute defence emerged as the real winners of Gameweek 37. The Dream Team was a sea of red and white, with all five of the Wearsiders’ defensive starters earning a spot.

Costel Pantillimon was in imperious form, rebuffing the Gunners’ relentless waves of attack and notching eight saves in the process. Meanwhile, Patrick van Aanholt – the most popular Sunderland recruit prior to their double with 45,000 net transfers – was perhaps unfortunate not to earn a single bonus point for his marauding display at left-back.

Since Dick Advocaat took the helm at the Stadium of Light, only Arsenal (five) and Burnley (six) have  conceded fewer goals than Sunderland in the league, which is testament to the Dutchman’s insistence on tactical discipline. Nonetheless, a fourth successive clean sheet for the Black Cats looks unlikely as they gear up for visit to Stamford Bridge on Sunday – a fixture in which Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho stated he intends to field his strongest starting line-up.

Would you rather have Benteke or Kolarov this game week? Both ard risky but potentially explosive!

Benteks. 10 in 11. Kolorov might not even start so it's a no brainer for me. May even cap'n him.

Well if you are going on success, then the manager award is a no brainer. You have to give it to JM.

If we are looking at an equity award - a manager who has achieved above his means - then I'd like to give it to Monk.

Player: Hazard from that lot. Honourable mention to Alexis.

that is more to do with how poor QPR are and limited resources of burnley.
i would say sherwood has had much bigger impact at villa, squad who were going nowhere but down, same rapid progression up league and cup final.
plus sherwood is less of a tool

i do think they have played decent footy at times, but he didnt seem willing to adapt when it wasnt working.
Would also say same as image of players, not sure someone who assaults an opposition player and has go at own fans is type of person we want to hold as good example. What about all the kids who want to be premier managers, they will be throttling school team players as we speak

Yeah his stats are good and I've always liked him as a player. City look so much better with him in the team. No idea why he doesn't get more minutes, he'd be 3rd name on the teamsheet for me.

Aarons could be an option if Carver says he starts.

    Kane + Cazorla > Lukaku + Fellaini/Young/£6.4m (-4) worth it?

How have you guys performed on the last day of the season in the past? Do you tend to take a few risks and try to go out with a big score?

I remember captaining a Drogba hat-trick on the last day, think it was 2010.

Pretty sure I captained Lukaku once, ended quite well. Past that am pretty useless.

Worth noting that Lukaku has four gwk 38 goals to his name in the last two seasons. He has strong gwk 38 form.

      depends how ML is sitting
normally play to block, so have brought in players i didnt fancy just to prevent unexpected score, even dropped out of top 10k once doing it. Would have been my highest finish

That Drogba hattrick was my best ever gwk 38 score. Great day.

I went Aguero (c) in the year they won the title against QPR. Wasn't the greatest score but certainly the most exciting finish.

Most seasons though since that Drogba year I haven't had anything to play for (that year I was second only just in my cash mini league and in the final of the FFS CUP). Since then its just rank so definitely go for some punts. I tend to captain who I bring in as well, but may stick with Aguero this year.

I ignored my gut a few years back and blocked my rival. The blocking working but meant i missed out on Nolans hatty.

Usually end on a GR of around 1m

I have Giroud, Diouf and Benteke. Considering swapping Giroud and Diouf for two of following, but can't decide which: Aguero, Ulloa, Vardy, Lukaku.

    Any advice?

Alternatively, should I try and do something with my midfield to get in Yaya Toure?

    Afternoon all

Wondered if you could be so kind to help me out a little? I am currently 38 points clear in a cash league so it could either way going into the last game of the season, players in CAPS are the same as my rival.

    ddg
CLYNE - pva- kosc (bruce - wisdom)
    sanchez - hazard - henderson - herrera - CAZORLA
    KANE - aguero (murray)

    where I have got:

    Kosc he has Mert
    Sanchez he has Ozil
    Hazard he has Silva
    Aguero he has benteke

Im thinking to keep cazorla to cover him but changing sanchez to either cover his silva or a differential?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

38 points clear is a lot. Maybe get Benteke as your rival may captain him

Raheem Sterling’s intermediary Aidy Ward tells London Evening Standard that his star wants to leave Liverpool and '£900,000-a-week would not keep him at Anfield'.

“He is definitely not signing. He’s not signing for £700, £800, £900 thousand a week. He is not signing," Ward said.
“My job is to make sure I do the best with them (my clients). If people say I am bad at my job, or they are badly advised it does not matter.”

    Methinks this may get ugly.

People say Sterling is a git, but at least it's not about money. He just doesn't want to be at Liverpool. Nothing wrong with that.

Aye. Or at least that's what they say. Fact probably is he'll go for a higher wage elsewhere. I reckon the big issue is him thinking he's too good for Liverpool, having had one good season and one okay one. The whole thing is a bit of a pantomime.

If i was a manager of a big club i dont think id want him. Liverpool is the right level for him. Maybe a move to Dortmund or Napoli could work

While it isn't entirely about money, I do think a move to somewhere like Dortmund would not happen due to wages. They won't pay him remotely what Pool are offering right now.

Yes, I'm a Newcastle fan and I played Pants over Krul in the derby.

Have watched spurs a good couple of times at the lane and you've got to admit defending can be shaky at best.
