For the final time, we assess the Scout leagues in a variety of Fantasy games after the campaign drew to a close at the weekend, with leagues in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Ultimate Fantasy Premier League and Sky Sports to look back on. In addition, we reveal the winner of the FFS Paddy Power Cup XI Final and find out who was the champion of champions in our Scout Picks Community Challenge.

FPL, Fantasy Football Scout League. Winner: Simon March, Overall Ranking 1

Simon March, known to many on FFScout as Dufflinks, won the Scout League and Members League and was also crowned world number one in the FPL game. Since claiming the number one spot in Gameweek 23 his sensible approach to transfers, which involved saving his wildcard until Gameweek 34 and taking no hits, was enough to see him over the finishing line. A goal from his captain Sergio Aguero, allied with a commanding lead going into the final Gameweek, proved pivotal and made up for the fact that his final transfer of the season (Seb Larsson to Yannick Bolasie) failed to pay off. Simon finished on 2,470 points, 21 ahead of his nearest rival.

Jon Sumner (aka Jinswick), rose from fourth to second in the final Gameweek of the season thanks to an audacious pair of transfers involving a hit. Out went Olivier Giroud and Eden Hazard and in came Theo Walcott as vice captain and Diego Costa as captain, with his new recruits scoring four goals between them. In the end, his final Gameweek net score of 69, which gave him a total of 2449, was just short but cemented a place in FFScout folklore for his bravery and a second place finish overall.

Kev Gleave dropped from second to third and finished with a respectable final Gameweek score of 46 points, thanks to a goal from Jamie Vardy and his captain Aguero. Hanging onto Eden Hazard, who claimed an assist and two bonus points, also helped secure a final points tally of 2439. He also matched his league placing in the overall rankings.

Mariusz Fyrstenberg retained the fourth spot after drafting in Walcott and Christian Benteke for a hit. With a net score of 52 Mariusz finished sixth in the overall rankings with a final points tally of 2427, also thanks to goals from Aguero, Harry Kane and Esteban Cambiasso.

In fifth was Stuart Shingler, who was another non-mover as the season came to a close. He finishes on 2406 points and an overall rank of 13. Santi Cazorla, Aguero, Vardy and Jeffrey Schlupp were his stars in Gameweek 38.

FPL,FFS Members League. Winner: Simon March, Overall Ranking 1

As mentioned above, world number one Simon March also won this season’s FFS Members league. In second is Jack Wain, who comments under the name Jawain. He finished on 2415 points and ninth in the overall rankings, while Stuart Shingler took third place in our Members league.

Ultimate Fantasy Premier League. Winner: Damian Lindall – Overall Ranking 3

Damian Lindall clung onto first place to win our UFPL league and finished third overall with a total of 2,847 points. This came despite his Gameweek 38 captaincy of Romelu Lukaku letting him down. In second is Milanista on 2837, while Sean Tobin climbed to third place and finished on 2782. Amongst the top ten was fifth placed Alex Bowers, who won the Beta version of the game last season and remains one to watch in our UFPL league next season.

Sky Sports Fantasy Football. Winner: Geoff Pryor  – Overall Ranking 1

After finishing fifth overall in last year’s Sun Dream Team, Geoff Pryor has done even better in the Sky Sports Fantasy Football game, taking first place in our league and the overall rankings. His score of 2432 points was 37 ahead of second placed Katie Burgin, while John Eaton, with a score of 2432 took third. Katie’s score was enough to clinch fourth spot in the overall rankings, while John finished in fifth. Geoff scoops the top prize in the game of £30,000.

Fantasy Football Scout Paddy Power Cup XI. Winner: Mark

Mark’s sensational end of season run, that saw him claim an overall rank of 42, also earned him victory in the final of the Fantasy Football Scout Paddy Power Cup XI. He defeated faux_C by seven points thanks to drafting in Ulloa and keeping the faith in Hazard’s ability to recover from dental surgery. Mark wins £125 worth of free bets with Paddy Power for winning the Cup and gaining the highest score of the round. He can also treat himself to a £100 Amazon voucher as winner. Faux-C picks up £50 of free bets and a £50 Amazon voucher. Meanwhile, Hutton Dressed as Lahm won the third place play off against Hammers XI 46-43 and wins £50 of free bets and a £25 Amazon voucher.

FFScout Community Scout Picks Champion of Champions: Kings of Lyon

Kings of Lyon has won a £100 Amazon voucher after gaining the highest Gameweek score of the season among our Community Champions, who are selected each week by the community to help compile our Scout Picks. His Gameweek 36 score of 77 proved unbeatable. In our Scout Picks Challenge, Jonty (that’s me) emerged with the highest total over the season with 2011, followed by Paul on 1946, Mark on 1933 and the community champion’s final overall total was 1893, after Andy85wsm’s Gameweek 38 tally of 41 points was added in.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Our official Champions League game this season is the Fantasy iTeam (FiT) offering – a free, reliable and easy-to-use Fantasy football app. With just the final remaining, Adriel Cheung leads the way on 852 points – 26 points ahead of Gavin Rolston, whilst Juan Garcia is close behind Gavin in third, on 825 points. There’s an iPad mini on offer to the winner – the league name is Fantasy Football Scout and the pin is 11155.

Not sure if anyone on here is into this kind of thing but basically I had some really important stuff to do so instead I made a Sporcle quiz of the season ...

Would be cool if anyone on here was interested! (although I imagine most of you lot would find it a bit too easy...)

      37/68.. meh!

100% on goalscorers, played every minute, and clean sheets (gk).

Struggled on a few as well though - I could only score 1/5 on pass percentage and fouls per game. 0/5 on tackles per game.

I sometimes find it useful to record this stuff for when when the detailed stats have been wiped clean from the FPL site for the new season, e.g. if you want to look up how a certain player did against a certain team last season.

Other than that, I'm not sure really, it's just a resource I've thrown out there for anyone to use as they see fit.

More than any sensible person should 🙂

Sure, but it will need a bit of work to disentangle from various other things I've got going on in the same spreadsheet.

It will also need updating when the fixture list is published for next season, because it works off the ID number assigned by FPL to each fixture.

So maybe come back to me in the new season when I've had a chance to update the macro?

            1. Billy Gilmore
              • 13 Years
              10 years, 6 months ago

Yeah, sure. Thanks for that. I mainly just need a better way of differentiating between players that didn't play and those that did and got genuine 0s.

In the meantime I'll keep thinking of better ways to do this (I've been manually copying a members table with appearances for the GW). I might just use excel to scrape the minutes played as well as round score each week and do it that way...

He gets 1 min playing time. (and -2 points so isn't a problem)

Any appearance will give someone at least 1 minute of playing time.

Ah OK. you might be better off manually copying the FPL data from each fixture page. e.g. this is the link for the Stoke-Liverpool game on the last day of the season:

                http://fantasy.premierleague.com/fixture/380/

(obviously just change the number at the end of the URL to get a different fixture). This page lists only players that got match time in the game, so by definition if a player doesn't appear on this page, they didn't play.

In simple terms, what my Excel macro does is cycle through each fixture page for any given gameweek and copy/paste the data into a single spreadsheet tab.

                    I assume It's 1-10 for GW1, 11-20 for GW2 etc?

Might be best, yeah. Quicker, almost certainly as it's far less number crunching. Would just be 10 scrapes instead of like 60 my way (although this is probably inconsequential compared to how long the autosubbing macros take to run!)

                    1. The3rdTurd

Yes, exactly. So the first fixture of the season is number 1, however if a fixture gets rearranged for TV or for a cup clash, it retains the original fixture ID.

The best way to do it is the use the API. It's not public but if you sniff the traffic from the mobile phone app you can get it.

                    Its: http://fantasy.premierleague.com/web/api/elements/1

It provides a full season history to each player. Just loop through the link incrementing the last digits by one until you get to 711. The output is in json so you will need to parse that.

I've done this the past 3 seasons and it only takes 2mins to run to collect everything.

Think FSG aren't as silly as people make them out to be. They've spent 200m+ under BR at LFC. 0 trophies, 1CL qualification. That's failure. Klopp, FDB, Emery would be great

They're both emulating the same project at Ajax and Sevilla respectively. Both have won trophies, qualified for Europe and Sevilla in particular, have made more money on transfers than spent. BR had the foundations to carry this so called project on, but he's build his own grave.

It's natural to doubt but I think we'd both agree that as LFC we're not looking forward to next season with BR..that in itself suggests to get a new man let alone the other reasons. We should be excited and happy going into the new season, we won't be with BR in charge

He is out of contract on 1st June I think. Spurs either bidding because they want him or to raise the tribunal fee if LFC sign Ings.

He isn't good at all, we shouldn't even be in for him. We need first teamers, not squad players. Get a first choice striker. New striker, Sturridge, Balotelli, Origi more than enough. No need for Ings

He is either going to cost 4m or 8m for LFC now that Spurs have had a bid a pre-tribunal accepted so he's not free

He has some potential mate but can't see nothing more than 5/6 goals a season. Rather give Origi and Balotelli a proper chance

To sign top players you either need a top manager/top team and ££. We clearly have ££, FSG have spent 200m+ under BR. Sanchez opted for Wenger for example.

This is why we 100% have to move for Klopp and adjust the wage structure. That being said, Icardi/Higuain would be perfect. They'd both leave Inter/Napoli to come play in the PL

some serious talent in that brazil under 20 team. Striker called Judivan has mad swagger and he's relentless like a pitbull. Malcolm, Danilo, Gabriel Jesus all got serious skills too, all play in Brazil. Perreira from utd, Jean Carlos from real and Alef from Marseille all came on late and caused havoc. Joao Pedro has a touch of Cafu about him.
Aussies did brilliant. Game opened up when we went down to ten men and we nearly equalized a couple times. Young Bournemouth keeper is quality

Harris was very disrespectful of chomsky in the end of faith (his first book) so don't know why he was acting all surprised at the hostility.
I think the main reason it went to sh1t is because Harris was coming at it as a conversation but chomsky a debate.

Would hve been better to start a new account after became proficient, i think that is what quite a few have done

Pretty sure the 1st 2 hardly count if at all. The 69K season is the reason you are 2nd. Was that a dead team or full season?

I know a lot of people don't believe me but this is genuinely my first 3 seasons playing fpl

But I've played other forms since 1995 or thereabouts, starting with draft leagues, then playing the telegraph (top 50 in 2004/5 I think) then sportal where I had 2 top 50 finishes in 3 years so I was no noob. Just had to adjust to prices and pts hit trade off but rest is transferable.

Been reading ffs for about 6 years, only contributed once I started playing fpl as no one talks about anything else

I like the off topic stuff especially in the quiet times.

DZ especially quite an intelligent and left leaning crowd, albeit with a reasonable spectrum of diverse views. RCA Irish referendum post was a fair reflection on the consensus but also the diversity we have

This place is full of people with decent ranks, history making subtle hints at their success in the hope someone clicks on their link and give us the recognition we crave for the hours put in mastering g something totally pointless.

There was a lot of hate directed purely at Rodgers the other night. I thought it was rather unfair when he wasn't the one fully in control of transfers.

That's the thing though mate the buck should stop with someone. This way nobody is accountable. Its rubbish.
I've been one of Rodgers biggest defenders and still wouldn't mind him staying on but he needs full control and therefore full accountability.
The club should be all over Klopp and Ancelotti though. I don't like the Idea of replacing rodgers with just anybody

I suggested as much the other night. He needs full control to be a success at Liverpool. He can't have others essentially select his team for him, it just isn't going to work.

Think it's about time Spain had that extra CL spot - the Spanish teams' woes in the the latest World Cup aside - their domestic club football is just on another wavelength compared to most leagues tbh.

So much home grown talent year after year, just an abundance of talented players playing for top teams in Europe. Seems like some truly avant-garde work is being done in those Spanish academies. That's 14 European finalists by Spain since 2005, three more than England, and almost three times as many as Germany (5). Well on ya Spain!

I coach my daughters team and our club brings out coaches from the so called spanish football academy to work with the kids for half an hour before each game. No idea if they are actually associated with Spain lol but they are damn good coaches and players

Wow, very cool that, both on your part and on the coaches 😉 Guess living and breathing football at a young age produces all this culture and genuine love for the game. Seems like all the novel tactics and ideas are coming from either Spain or Germany at this point.

We have a culture of thinking we are better than we are and for playing gung-ho tactically lacking football., that purveys at all levels including the epl.

Yeah for sure, just look at that U.S 😉 I grew up learning to make fun of the soccer players as "fairies"in middle school. I can't speak for England, but I imagine maybe now with the millennial generation, interest has waned.
