Following a successful first season at the Britannia for Mark Hughes, in which he guided Stoke to a ninth-place finish, expectations were high as the Potters headed into the 2014/15 campaign. The former Blackburn boss continued his side’s evolution, bringing in the likes of Bojan Krkic from Barcelona and Victor Moses on a season-long loan from Chelsea, while Phil Bardsley and Mame Biram Diouf added physicality at both ends of the pitch. That balance of style and substance ultimately proved successful, with Stoke finishing in ninth place once again.

In this members article, we will take an in-depth look at Hughes’ second season in charge, analysing the main goal threats and creators and comparing the numbers from the 2013/14 and 2014/15 campaigns under the Welshman.

Are you sure about rotating keepers? For that price you could have Courtois?

Apart from that, the only fault I can pick is starting Wanayama/Barry or playing 4 at the back each week. I'd prefer the full seven attackers.

Yeah, big issue is with the two midfielders of Barry and Wanyama. As everyone says, lose some cash from defence and upgrade one.

Might be used in the hole rather than out and out striker though

Going with deeney since Watford signed a lot of quality players last week. Pretty sure they will not be in contention to get relegated. I predict around 13th

So Norwich are the only one of the promoted sides to have recent EPL experience and their side still consists of most of the players from that season. On top of that they have just 2 bad fixtures in the first 10 ie sot and liv. Why are most overlooking their defenders for the likes of Francis/Mings/Prodl etc?

    1. GreennRed

i like Redmond... Though Johnson spent some time in the front 3 last season he spent the majority of his time in his old withdrawn role. Good value still but i'd rather redmond.

That is right, Johnson mainly plays as DM but he scored 15 goals last season, amazing.
But he also collected a lot of YCs.
I would still pick Redmond too, he will assist and create more danger on the wing.

    Currently on a team of:

    Fabianski, Schmeichel
Koscielny, Azpilicueta, Cedric, Mings, S Taylor
    Hazard, Walcott, Sterling, Henderson, Anya
    Rooney, J Rod, Sakho

    Can anyone offer any advice/recommendations?

I'm particularly unsure on Anya and also think having S Taylor may be rash with him being almost certain to not play.

S Taylor won't play but then there are no 4mils who will, if you want a non playing defender then I guess he is good as any

      mid looks very good

J Rod could be a golden pick but my only issue with him is he plays on the wing and even though he scored 3 and got 3 assists in last friendly Koeman's assistant came out and said he was not 100% fit still.

Yeah, I'm resigned to S Taylor sitting at number 3 on the bench until a 4.0 defender arises probably.

J Rod's my big punt. He was class for me two seasons ago and I think he could hit the ground running. Very tempted to chance it despite him playing reverse OOP.

    My first RMT 🙂

    Kasper - Hamer

    Kos - Azpi - NOR - BOU - WAT (all 4.5)

    Hazard - Walcott - Ozil - Payet - Anya

    Rooney - Sakho - Pelle

    - I am concerned about doubling up on WHU, although I do think we'll start strongly.
    - Ozil can be changed to Cazorla or another 8.5

Double Arsenal and double West Ham - could pay off but I'd be tempted to spread the cash elsewhere slightly. Maybe Payet to one of Milner/Henderson or one of the Palace midfielders?

        Thanks for the feedback.

I'm happy with double Arsenal tbh, but agree about West Ham.

Payet to Milner is definitely an option to consider, thanks.

Not a fan of the keepers.
      Decent defence.
Mid is good but a little risky, not convinced by Ozil although you're doubling up so kind of mitigates the risk.
      Forwards are ok.

Cheers, which 4.5/4.0 keeper combo would you suggest then?

Or I could stretch to 5.0/4.0 if I downgrade Payet.

£4.5/£4.5 with Schmeichel and Butland is what I've gone for. Might be worth downgrading Payet at the start, then get him in around GW9 when his fixtures pick up.

I'm trying to trust my analysis that West Ham will get off to a flyer (due to EL qualifiers in pre season) and then slow down.

    Stoke leading 5-0 against Wrexham.

I've already advised you Walters when you've asked the same question last week or so.

He is the most nailed as it stands, and certain to start the season, unless he gets injured ofcourse...

Yeah, but Diouf or Arnautovic could also play on that position and steal his gametime.

            As it stands imo...

            Walters - Adam - Bojan
            Joselu/Diouf

            OR...

            Walters - Bojan - Arnautovic
            Joselu/Diouf

Joselu is comfortably better than Diouf for me, but they're likely to share gametime.

Walters & Adam are very tempting if I go that cheap with my 4th mid - probably will stick to minimum of 7.0 though with Liverpool lads or Chadli, if not 8+.

        Exactly the same for me.

My fourth mid is Henderson/Milner and likely to stay that way, but Walters would be high on the list if I looked to downgrade there.
