As mentioned earlier in the week, Premier Punt is one of the new weekly games we’ll be covering over the course of the season. Our coverage of weekly games will take on a different approach this year – as discussed previously, I’ve been given £100 for each weekly game and will be reporting back every Friday on my progress.

Furthermore, I’ll be publishing a midweek “Weekly Shop” article, which focuses on those players that have arrived on my radar in advance of the weekend deadline.

I played Premier Punt a couple of times last season and, as the scoring mirrors Fantasy Premier League, including having to pick a captain, it should therefore be straightforward in establishing a similar pool of players to pick from. It may take a couple of weeks to get up to speed with their prices and where the value lies, though.

There are three timeframes available – Saturday games, Sunday games and then the Weekly games, with all of the fixtures included.

For each of these, I’m able to pick up to three teams and for the first week I’m going to experiment a bit with how I distribute my funds around the squads, so will play all three weekly teams, and two each on Saturday and Sunday in at least one challenge.

The Premier Punt player pricing appears to make it difficult to fit more than two big-hitters in without having to rely heavily on budget options, so this week I’m basing teams around two pricey key players, a few mid-priced punts and completing them with cheaper starters.

Only three players are allowed from any team, which makes Sunday, with only three fixtures, a bit harder than the others to create a balanced side. As mentioned in our midweek Weekly Shop article, this is where budget buys such as Southampton’s Matt Targett become incredibly useful.

The Bottom Line

In this section, I will be reviewing how I got on the previous week and listing my current profit margin. As the season hasn’t started, I’m planning how to spend some of my £100 kitty for the opening round of fixtures.

This Week’s Stake

Here, I’ll be running through which games I will be entering and how much I will be risking on Premier Punt this week. There’s always a chance that I will enter more games but I will cover this is the bottom line next time.

Weekly games – There’s a £200 free entry game available (no deposit required) so all three teams go straight into that. I’m also going to put Team 1 into the £5 challenge and Teams 2 and 3 into the £2 contest. I’ve also added a £1 entry in the weekly contest- the game name is Fantasy Football Scout.

Daily games – For the Saturday and Sunday challenges I’m going with both Teams 1 and 2 in the £2 stake battles.

Total Stake: £17

The £200 free entry game in Premier Punt means that anyone can take me on this week with no deposit required, just click here to join in. I’ll be reviewing my progress and acknowledging any community members that win cash, in next week’s article.

they are in a way, last season shows that every game is important, Chelsea got a start and never looked back, Wenger mentioned this himself the other week there. He wont be complacent. i would think Walcott will start wide, get 60 mins or so and then be withdrawn for Ox. Purely speculation though.

yup, think Giroud starts up top as well. Just not sure if/where fits into the starting XI, at least for tomorrow. AOC to keep his place, I think.

Seaman’s last minute extras to FantasyFootball

Is that the team that you want?
I woke up this morning with Mahrez in my team, last year I didn’t think ‘I can’t wait for next season because I really want ‘Mahrez’ in my team’. But to be fair, I looked at the stats and he played 4 times last season in the hole and he scored twice. But then again, Ranieri is a tinkerer and Mahrez could be played all over the field. Do you really want Francis to play every week? Do you want Chadli? I know I’m getting Aguero so I made a team with 4m in the bank and it’s good. I can’t have a Chelsea defender though.

      Each year is different
The punts could work well this season. A lot of new players this year who are sure-fire starters, players like Depay. Others include Lens and Payet. Other years we had no idea if new players would even start. So these punts should get around 5 goals 5 assists quite easily over the whole season. If they hit the ground running, I wouldn’t be surprised.
But personally, I think this season - because of the pricing – means we can have a few more punts. By this I mean, a bench can handle problems with the main squad. You can start Walcott in GW1, if you have a good backup, if he’s dropped. Even a 4.5m defender can handle a benching. We can punt on Kolarov and Bellerin, the bench should be ok this season to absorb random drops in my opinion.

Some people’s opinions are based on what they want (not wrong and right)
I want Watford to get hammered (but I don’t think they will). I want Ruddy to keep cleansheets (I don’t think he will, they shouldn’t concede too heavily)
Walcott won’t be playing a lot. He is one of the greatest fpl players in history but not this season. Arsenal’s midfield is like a swarm of bees with a Donkey at the top. We attack in numbers and defend in numbers now. Arsenal can’t have Walcott mincing next to a fullback waiting for a through-ball anymore. We can win without him. But I think he will play as a striker against teams that park the bus, that’s why he played against Chelsea.

If there is a player who you are worried about not having, he should be in your team
I was worried about Silva last year. He ruined my season.

Nice little piece, im also in the Mahrez situation hahaha! Im worried of not having sterling , but i would rather have hazard and wally over him , unless i donwgrade strikers i can get him in , but i also think you cant have everyone

        A. But what about Rooney, Aguero and Hazard if you can fit them in? It's a tight squeeze but here's mine potentially:

        Rudd(y)
        Mert, Cedric, Huth, Coates, Saylor
        Haz, Ozil, Mane, Mahrez, Fletcher
        Aguero, Rooney, Sakho

      Hunt, Francis, Azpi
      Haz, Mane, Sterling, Walc

      Bench: Henneysy, Gomez, Muniesa

Yeah, the risk taker in me says Benteke could rip it up.

Should try and save your transfers, avoid one in gw1 and make two in gw2 which allows for more flexibility.
