As mentioned earlier in the week, Premier Punt is one of the new weekly games we’ll be covering over the course of the season. Our coverage of weekly games will take on a different approach this year – as discussed previously, I’ve been given £100 for each weekly game and will be reporting back every Friday on my progress.
Furthermore, I’ll be publishing a midweek “Weekly Shop” article, which focuses on those players that have arrived on my radar in advance of the weekend deadline.
I played Premier Punt a couple of times last season and, as the scoring mirrors Fantasy Premier League, including having to pick a captain, it should therefore be straightforward in establishing a similar pool of players to pick from. It may take a couple of weeks to get up to speed with their prices and where the value lies, though.
There are three timeframes available – Saturday games, Sunday games and then the Weekly games, with all of the fixtures included.
For each of these, I’m able to pick up to three teams and for the first week I’m going to experiment a bit with how I distribute my funds around the squads, so will play all three weekly teams, and two each on Saturday and Sunday in at least one challenge.
The Premier Punt player pricing appears to make it difficult to fit more than two big-hitters in without having to rely heavily on budget options, so this week I’m basing teams around two pricey key players, a few mid-priced punts and completing them with cheaper starters.
Only three players are allowed from any team, which makes Sunday, with only three fixtures, a bit harder than the others to create a balanced side. As mentioned in our midweek Weekly Shop article, this is where budget buys such as Southampton’s Matt Targett become incredibly useful.
The Bottom Line
In this section, I will be reviewing how I got on the previous week and listing my current profit margin. As the season hasn’t started, I’m planning how to spend some of my £100 kitty for the opening round of fixtures.
This Week’s Stake
Here, I’ll be running through which games I will be entering and how much I will be risking on Premier Punt this week. There’s always a chance that I will enter more games but I will cover this is the bottom line next time.
Weekly games – There’s a £200 free entry game available (no deposit required) so all three teams go straight into that. I’m also going to put Team 1 into the £5 challenge and Teams 2 and 3 into the £2 contest. I’ve also added a £1 entry in the weekly contest- the game name is Fantasy Football Scout.
Daily games – For the Saturday and Sunday challenges I’m going with both Teams 1 and 2 in the £2 stake battles.
Total Stake: £17
The £200 free entry game in Premier Punt means that anyone can take me on this week with no deposit required, just click here to join in. I’ll be reviewing my progress and acknowledging any community members that win cash, in next week’s article.
