Yaya Toure scores twice as City sweep aside West Brom at the Hawthorns. David Silva chips in with an assist, whilst Sergio Aguero steps up his match fitness with a second-half cameo off the bench.

Toure brace propels Blues to summit

Yaya Toure reaffirmed his heavy-hitting potential with a first-half brace against an overwhelmed Baggies outfit. Granted, the Ivorian’s first goal was very fortuitous – despite David Silva getting a touch, the Fantasy Premier League attributed the goal to the Ivorian and the assist to Jesus Navas. There were no such doubts over his second, though, as he curled a sublime effort into the top corner. Although Toure had to be substituted after 80 minutes with a slight groin strain, manager Manuel Pellegrini later revealed that he expects him to be fit to face Chelsea next Gameweek.

With most Fantasy managers turning their sights towards Raheem Sterling (22% ownership) or David Silva (10%) for their Sky Blues coverage, Toure (6%) proved to be a high-impact differential. Nonetheless, Silva showcased more than enough to suggest that his 10.0 price tag is worth the outlay, orchestrating the midfield with effortless poise and bagging an assist in the process. Sterling, meanwhile, fluffed a gilt-edged one-on-one chance, yet his pace in behind carries the promise of attacking returns.

Sergio Aguero was handed a 28-minute cameo as he gears up for a potential start against Chelsea on Sunday. Given the typically tight nature of that match-up (four goals in two head-to-heads last term), non-owners might be tempted hold off on recruiting the Argentinian marksman until Gameweek 3 (eve) or even Gameweek 4 (WAT), before City embark on a fantastic run of fixtures up to Gameweek nine (cry, WHY, tot, NEW, BOU).

Vincent Kompany (6.0) cemented the three points with a commanding header just before the hour mark. While City’s quartet of home ties after the Chelsea fixture look conducive to clean sheets, Aleksandar Kolarov (5.5) arguably presents a stronger case for inclusion in Gael Clichy’s absence, given that the Serbian full-back took precedence over Toure at free-kicks and ranked top for goal attempts (three) among defenders in Gameweek 1.

Baggies slump in home opener

Tony Pulis’ troops were comprehensively outclassed at the Hawthorns, falling to their second consecutive 3-0 defeat at the hands of City. Saido Berahino – who lined up alongside Rickie Lambert in a 4-4-2 set-up – had his moments and was denied a goal by virtue of the offside flag. It remains to be seen how club-record signing Salomon Rondon will slot into the forward line, particularly with question marks surrounding Berahino’s future.

James McClean was favoured in the left-wing role by Tony Pulis, meaning Chris Brunt was deployed in the left-back berth – starving us of a Baggies defensive option. With a home clash against Chelsea just around the corner, many non-owners of the Baggies backline will be persuaded to steer clear until the schedule takes a turn for the better from Gameweek 4 onwards.

Think I'm going to do Ivan>Smalling. Not sure I trust the Chelsea defence at present, and two tough away games coming up. Smalling looks first choice RCB to me, with doubts over all the other positions.

The saved 1.0m gives me 3.5m ITB which allows the option of Kane or Rooney > Aguero. I like the idea of Aguero/Rooney as you then have a safe home captain every week... Maybe then do Depay > Eriksen or Liverfool mid for coverage.

I would never put off anyone owning Silva, I had him all last season, but you really need to own him all season to see the benefit. Shipping him out after 3 GW blanks will cost you.

Also, when he's put out on the wing you are unlikely to see many returns.

I'd always advise picking a 4th/5th mid that both have good attacking potential. If you go filler (likes of fletcher) it'll cost you over the season.

I started with Mahrez but he isn't my 4th or 5th midfider as it were. He's just one of my five who I feel comfortable playing in most scenarios. I just pick the best four with regard to form and fixture. Saves hits too

    Hi

can someone please rmt, due to making some poor decisions ive decided to play my wildcard:

    Ruddy
    soare - darmian - gomez
    Hazard - Alexis - Payet - Mahrez
    Rooney - Aguero - Deeney

    Subs: rudd, oxford, wanyama, target

My main issues at the moment is should I change mahrez to albrighton and get a better keeper or even use it to maybe get atleast one nailed on defender as a sub. The only name im worried about starting is gomez and that's why I need atleast one decent sub. Some advice please. I know my team may be a bit top heavy, but if I can get in all the hard hitters, why not

All I would advise is to have a plan if Oxford, Targett and Gomez all drop off the first team after 5-6 GWs when all players are fully fit. It may not happen but I believe Targett will be a casualty of Bertrand's return, Oxford of Pedro Obiang but Gomez looks solid at the moment because Moreno is available and Gomez is still being picked.

Looking at my squad, I'm seriously tempted to transfer Rooney out this week. Transferring Walcott out next week would then leave me enough funds to bring Aguero in for GW4. Seem a reasonable approach or would you keep Rooney?

    Steklenburg / Ruddy

    Targett / Francis / Kolarov / Huth / Bacuna

    Sinclair / Depay / Hazard / Walcott / Mahrez

    Rooney / Remy / Wilson

    4.0 ITB

    Moves I am thinking of;

    A) Deeney for Remy
    B) Gomis for Remy
    C) Zarate for Remy
    D) Oscar for Hazard
    E) Oscar for Walcott
    F) Oscar for Deeply
    G) Layun for Francis
    H) Layun for Bacuna
    I) Ayew for Walcott
    J) Ayew for Deeply
    K) Payet for Walcott
    L) Payet for Depay

At the moment I am preferring either A or B, simply because I believe Remy will get fewer minutes than anyone else in my team after GW1. I took a gamble on Remy starting at home in GW1 because of doubts over Costa, a 7.5 option in the Chelsea forward line was too good to ignore but he is evidently 3rd choice. Watford, Swansea and West Ham all have favourable upcoming fixture lists IMO.

I want to get Oscar in as he seems to own set-piece duties at the moment and would leave me with more money available regardless of which option I transfer him in for.

Layun is an OOP defender with two upcoming home fixtures and I want to include him in my team instead of either Francis or Bacuna. Bacon possibly because he doesn't look like he will offer the OOP option we thought he would - at least in the absence of Jose Crespo.

Ayew and Payet are another two players I am keen on but I am reluctant to change either Depay or Walcott but I believe it could be the right option for a few reasons.

    1) No European Football - more likely consistency of minutes

    2) Lack of alternative options - Depay could be rested for Januzaj, Pereira, Fellaini, Mata could move central, Rooney could drop in the hole... Walcott is even not assured of his position and with 3 games against Liverpool and two of last seasons top 4 in the next 7 GWs it could be the right option to transfer him out, on the flip side it can be argued that the games against the big teams when Arsenal are forced to play on the counter is when Walcott is at his most effective...

    3) More on pitch responsibilities and point scoring opportunities - Ayew was handed a role supporting Gomis off the flank so you can assume that he is the 2nd most attacking player in the Swansea setup, Payet takes free kicks, corners and had two forwards to supply from open play..

    I am considering my wildcard and if I played my wildcard my team would look like this for GW2;

    Steklenburg / Ruddy

Targett / Gomez or Oxford / Kolarov / Huth / Layun

    Sinclair / Ayew / Oscar / Payet / Mahrez

    Rooney / Deeney / Wilson

This leaves me with 12.5 million in reserve, plenty of wriggle room in upcoming GWs...

    What are peoples opinions?

Wally to Mahrez gives me enough to do Rooney-Aguero next week.

I'd much rather do both next week but won't be able to afford unless I do wally-mahrez today, what do you think?

I've got a similar dilemma but am thinking of doing it the other way round. Rooney out this week and Walcott out next week to enable Aguero to come in GW4. Personally I think Walcott will out score Rooney this week.....

But wally going down in price this week, mahrez going up today probably

If the two transfers leave you 0 in the bank then I understand you will need to make the move soon. I just think that Walcott away at Palace (I think he'll start) will do more than Mahrez away at West Ham.

Defoe should definitely start again right?
