Yaya Toure scores twice as City sweep aside West Brom at the Hawthorns. David Silva chips in with an assist, whilst Sergio Aguero steps up his match fitness with a second-half cameo off the bench.

Toure brace propels Blues to summit

Yaya Toure reaffirmed his heavy-hitting potential with a first-half brace against an overwhelmed Baggies outfit. Granted, the Ivorian’s first goal was very fortuitous – despite David Silva getting a touch, the Fantasy Premier League attributed the goal to the Ivorian and the assist to Jesus Navas. There were no such doubts over his second, though, as he curled a sublime effort into the top corner. Although Toure had to be substituted after 80 minutes with a slight groin strain, manager Manuel Pellegrini later revealed that he expects him to be fit to face Chelsea next Gameweek.

With most Fantasy managers turning their sights towards Raheem Sterling (22% ownership) or David Silva (10%) for their Sky Blues coverage, Toure (6%) proved to be a high-impact differential. Nonetheless, Silva showcased more than enough to suggest that his 10.0 price tag is worth the outlay, orchestrating the midfield with effortless poise and bagging an assist in the process. Sterling, meanwhile, fluffed a gilt-edged one-on-one chance, yet his pace in behind carries the promise of attacking returns.

Sergio Aguero was handed a 28-minute cameo as he gears up for a potential start against Chelsea on Sunday. Given the typically tight nature of that match-up (four goals in two head-to-heads last term), non-owners might be tempted hold off on recruiting the Argentinian marksman until Gameweek 3 (eve) or even Gameweek 4 (WAT), before City embark on a fantastic run of fixtures up to Gameweek nine (cry, WHY, tot, NEW, BOU).

Vincent Kompany (6.0) cemented the three points with a commanding header just before the hour mark. While City’s quartet of home ties after the Chelsea fixture look conducive to clean sheets, Aleksandar Kolarov (5.5) arguably presents a stronger case for inclusion in Gael Clichy’s absence, given that the Serbian full-back took precedence over Toure at free-kicks and ranked top for goal attempts (three) among defenders in Gameweek 1.

Baggies slump in home opener

Tony Pulis’ troops were comprehensively outclassed at the Hawthorns, falling to their second consecutive 3-0 defeat at the hands of City. Saido Berahino – who lined up alongside Rickie Lambert in a 4-4-2 set-up – had his moments and was denied a goal by virtue of the offside flag. It remains to be seen how club-record signing Salomon Rondon will slot into the forward line, particularly with question marks surrounding Berahino’s future.

James McClean was favoured in the left-wing role by Tony Pulis, meaning Chris Brunt was deployed in the left-back berth – starving us of a Baggies defensive option. With a home clash against Chelsea just around the corner, many non-owners of the Baggies backline will be persuaded to steer clear until the schedule takes a turn for the better from Gameweek 4 onwards.

    Selling Fabregas. Where i go?

    A) Eriksen (looked great and most inform spur)
    B) Payet (already have sakho and jenk)
    C) Ayew
    D)Yaya (kneejerk?)
    E) Cabaye
    F) Coutinho (already have Tekker)

    Any other option???

    Let's fix this defence:

    Targett / Mertesacker / Schlupp / Coates / Cédric

I'm thinking Coates & Cédric > Oxford & Gomez / Toby. Already have Fabianski in net.

Is it worth making these changes now before the price changes?

Considering taking a hit to sort things out a bit. Specifically, ivan and walcott out for a 4.5 (probably gomez) and sanchez. Leaves 0.5 in the bank to help facilitate kin the following week (though that will probably require a second hit). I'm usually averse to taking hits but I feel that these kinds of hits aren't knee jerk short term changes, but long term ship steadying manoeuvres (admittedly, I seem to have built a rather unsteady ship)Thoughts?

you need to visit a different bank to help facilitate kin
You knew Aguero was gonna be back for GW 2 and decided to go without.. and you wanted Ivan for his CS and attacking threat. So what's changed all of a sudden to make this an unsteady ship? you are basically planning to take 2 hits in the first week fpl opened .. not a great plan im sorry to say. Stick with waht u have and gradually work towards a Sanchez etc

Well, the midfield three are the strongest tacklers in the Premiership. The team racked up 43 on Sunday. So in common with everybody else, you have got that one wrong. 🙂
Zarate proceeded to shock everyone rigid with his work rate, so I hope that he can keep that up.

Sorry I didn't mean weak as in physically weak, I meant skill wise. I like Kouyate and Noble is ok I guess but you need someone with a bit more class in there with them imo.

Re the perfomance v Arsenal I would read that much into it, ye got lucky with a couple of sucker punch goals. Arsenal dominated the match and 9 times out of 10 would have won it with a couple to spare imo. I'll be much more interested to see how that midfield does against a team they have to pass against and how zarate does when he doesn't have so much space to attack into.

                Not much tbh.

                eg.

                Schmeichal McCarthy
                Cedric 4.5 4.5 4.5 4
                Hazard Sanchez Silva Mahrez Westwood
                Aguero Gomis Sahko

Could go Silva > Payet, and upgrade to Azpi + Darmian instead.

Aguero and Sanchez could both start next week and do some damage.

Fair enough - looks okay, I'd have a similar front line I think, but it does feel a little knee jerky. Upcoming fixtures really good though.

Chances are I wildcard next week and have something similar so you'll be ahead of the game!

The defence is a bit weak imo but it has a strong front 8.

Could get Albrighton instead and get another 5m defender. Or get Sterling instead of Silva and use the 1m to upgrade.

Aguero for GW3 vs Everton looks like a must!

Think it might be a little early though Doos. Sanchez can wait another week I think. Chadli, Sakho, Cazorla, and Williams could still come good for you in the original team - they have the fixtures.

A simple transfer in for Gomis (from Falcao), would suffice, imo. 🙂

If you're bringing in Gomis with a FT.

The only bankers I can see are Gomez, Ayew and maybe Coutinho. With how slowly prices are moving these days, you might not even get a 0.1 out of each of them.

Not sure TV's worth the WC mate.

I do like your second team better... but like I said, your first team isn't bad either. Could easily end up scoring more than the first. Just need to sort Falcao out.

Both teams are strong but I'm waiting for more patterns. The thing with football is that one week a team looks strong, the next not so much. The reason being different tactics and systems depending on opponents amongst other factors.

A good example is WHU on Sunday where they set up defensively. Will they carry on with this v LEI this weekend? Probably not, which will influence games. In the same token, LEI will set up differently to negate WHU as they are playing away. Same could be said for Chelsea. They're off form, look like they're not match fit, but, it's too soon to write them off, IMO.

This is the main reason I'm going to 'wait and see' & hold or just use 1 or 2 (-4) FTs for price rises.

Maybe this is a bit simplistic...

i think you should resist the urge and wait to see establish a pattern of form.

I have wild carded my dog's team. His paw was hovering over the wild card button for a while.

'We can cope with Baines setback' says Martinez, replacements include Bryan Oviedo(£4.5m MID), who is still returning to full fitness, and youngster Brendan Galloway(£4.5m DEF).

Might need City GW3 rather than GW4 at this rate...

tbf didn't need that news at all. Their performance against Watford sealed Kun's triumphant return into my team this season next week.

    Gw 2 save
Gw 3 bring in two standout one week punts
Gw 4 build a wildcard team around kun.

    Sounds like a plan Stan
