For the second consecutive Gameweek, Man United edged their way to three points in the most unspectacular style, easily keeping hosts Aston Villa at bay to claim a 1-0 win. Adnan Januzaj was the unlikely hero, bought into the side by Louis van Gaal in the “number ten” role, he took his opportunity with a crafty first-half strike. Meanwhile, our Captain Poll leader Wayne Rooney disappointed his horde of owners with a listless display, as the United back four claimed further returns. Here’s the notes on Friday’s encounter…

Januzaj Stakes a Claim

With rumours of a loan move to Sunderland gathering pace, Van Gaal handed the young Belgian a central attacking role behind Rooney for the Villa Park visit. Januzaj’s first-half strike certainly strengthened his claim for a place in the first XI, with his introduction allowing Memphis Depay to take up the left flank berth he occupied for PSV last season.

At just 5.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Januzaj would clearly be a steal if he can nail down a regular role, though his withdrawal just before the hour mark perhaps highlights Van Gaal’s reluctance to extend his pitch time – the young Belgian started only seven times for the Red Devils in 2014/15. Furthermore, the club’s interest in Barcelona’s Pedro raises further question marks over Januzaj’s place in the overall pecking order.

Lacklustre Rooney Fails to Spark

They may be sitting pretty at the top of the table but, from a Fantasy perspective, it’s fair to say the Old Trafford outfit have failed to impress in the final third.

Van Gaal’s men managed a mere two shots on target last night and, bearing in mind they scored with their only attempt on target at home to Spurs, the lack of spark is a major concern for high-ownership assets such as Wayne Rooney (41%) and Depay (23%). Juan Mata, meanwhile, remains an under-the-radar option – owned by just 7% of Fantasy managers, he grabbed the assist and maximum bonus for a nine-point haul.

Certainly, last night’s decision to shift Depay to the left will give Van Gaal food for thought. Whilst the summer signing fired an eye-catching seven attempts, Rooney failed to produce a single shot over the 90 minutes.

Given that City’s schedule takes a significant turn for the better in Gameweek 4, Rooney and Depay may well be set for significant sales once next week’s home clash with Newcastle is out of the way, as we look to find space for the likes of Sergio Aguero and David Silva in our 15-man squads. Rooney is already suffering heavy sales, soaring to the summit of the FPL “transfers out” rankings overnight.

Darmian and the Defence Hold Firm

Whilst their forwards toil, the United defence chalked up a second straight clean sheet after keeping Tim Sherwood’s side at bay. The visitors restricted Villa to a single shot on target, with Sergio Romero once again benefitting from David de Gea’s absence to offer the value route into their backline at just 5.0. With uncertainty over the Spaniard’s future, though, Matteo Darmian looks the most profitable pick here; the summer signing – who’s risen to 5.6 – has now picked up a couple of bonus points in each of the first two Gameweeks. Clashes against Swansea, Liverpool, Southampton and Arsenal in the five fixtures directly after the Newcastle match suggests his short-term prospects are perhaps less enticing, though. Quite frankly, United’s rearguard has impressed but has yet to face an opponent that’s provided a sustained and direct threat on goal.

I think Pedro would do a better job than at City than United.

Firstly, City have a decent manager. Secondly, he will get to play on his favorite wing spots, not be thrust to play as CB or no 10 like his manager's whims. Thirdly, KDB is basically a no 10, and they already have a good no 10 in Silva - they need some wide men.

    --------Sterling------------Silva------------Pedro
    ------------------------------Aguero

Oxford and Targett need to go, Gonez likely to be under threat as well, Romero not out of the woods either. So defence is pish, rest is fine, but Cabaye's inclusion comes about 5 weeks too soon. oh and Cedric is a red card waiting to happen.

Oops sorry, you are right. I wouldn't downgrade Pelle, a man in form, in order to get Payet. I would be more inclined to go without Hazard and strengthen elsewhere, esp the defence.

U need long term solutions for you backline, is oxford a season starter ? Has gomez locked down the lb position ? Targett is on the countdown b4 betrand returns into the lineup. Im sure u can find a stronger FPL player than wayama ? Everybody else is fine. Build your foundation now so you benefit wen you players price goes up. U then can sell at a higher value than wen you bought the player making it easier to consistently afford quality players while able to afford your heavy hitters.

Silva's "real" score last GW was probably 14 (goal+assist+appearance+CS+bps). There would be a massive bandwagon if he had been given that goal. Glad he wasn't.

Spurs signing of Cameroon international Clinton N'jie is bad news for Chadli owners. They will be in direct competition for the LAM spot. N'jie is also a back up for Kane but obviously won't take Harry's spot unless Kane is injured.

I doubt he'll be first choice LAM for a few weeks yet but Poch has never been a big fan of Chadli due to his poor workrate. As Poch likes to play a hard pressing 4-3-3 with a high line and never varies from that system N'jie fits the bill better than Chadli does.

N'jie can also play RAM so it is possible that both him and Chadli can be accommodated in the same team but he is best on the left. He is very fast and an excellent dribbler if a little raw and got 7 goals and 8 assists in 1500 minutes for Lyon last season.

Add him to your watchlist and monitor his performances in the Europa League. If he is priced at 6.5 or less he will be a strong option once he breaks into the 1st team.

Whats the deal on Walcott playing tomorrow? Is he in or out? I've noticed his price has dropped over night. He best be playing tomorrow and what will it take for his price to go back up?

with Sanchez back, a lot of players expect Walcott to stay on the bench. It's uncertain whether Giroud or Walcott will be the frontman but now the right wing is taken by Sanchez

    The better/stronger long term mid:

    A) Sterling Depay Hazard Santi Mane
    B) Albrighton Sanchez Puncheon Hazard Montero

Lineup A has Kane n Ben as main 2 strikers
Lineup B has Aguero n Ben as main 2 strikers

With Payet due to rise tonight my heart rate is rising and my knee is jerking ever so slightly.

    Schmeichel Schwarzer
    Bassong Azp Kosc Cedric Huth
    Sterling Ozil Hazard Milner Fletcher
    Rooney Pelle Wilson

    2FT 1.0 ITB

Can anyone talk me out of:
    Rooney -> Aguero
Either: Sterling -> Payet or: Ozil + Hazard -> Payet + Alexis -4

I wasn't planing on shipping out Rooney until next week but I've already lost Milner -> Mahrez as an option to free up funds.

What is general consensus of the best buy atm ayew, gomis, payet etc. luckily i have aguero already so that saves that nightmare but having haz aswell is really restricting my options so should i do haz to payet, ayew e.g.?
