Sergio Aguero returns to the scoresheet and the Fantasy Football radar, prompting many to hit the transfer trail as City’s early season form continued in style with a 3-0 win over champions Chelsea. Meanwhile, in the Arsenal camp, Alexis Sanchez compounded the need for squad surgery with a performance at Selhurst Park that reminded us of his own Fantasy appeal. Here’s the notes from Sunday’s encounters…

Aguero Paves The Way For City Victory

Sergio Aguero announced his return to the starting lineup with a goal as Manuel Pellegrini’s side recorded a convincing 3-0 victory over Chelsea.

Last season’s Golden Boot winner carved out a wealth of shooting opportunities at the Etihad, with no striker mustering more attempts (seven) than Aguero this Gameweek. Non-owners will doubtless now be clamouring to recruit the 13.0-priced marksman ahead of City’s excellent run of fixtures (eve, WAT, cry, WHU, tot, NEW, BOU) – particularly when the league’s other top-end forwards (Wayne Rooney and Diego Costa) have yet to find their groove.

Indeed, Aguero’s performance provided the catalyst for a frenzy of transfer activity which has seen him claim over 100,000 new owners in the Gameweek to this point. This is likely to lead to the Argentine’s first rise in price in the next 24-hours.

David Silva carded a brace of assists to compliment his assist against West Bromwich Albion – earning two bonus points in the process – while Yaya Toure combined well with Aguero to set him up for City’s opener. Both players currently sit around the 10% ownership mark, with Raheem Sterling (19% ownership) still the more favoured route into City’s attack. Sterling’s ownership is, however, in decline having sustained almost 50,000 sales in the Gameweek so far as a result of Silva and Toure’s recent returns.

Having failed to register a single goal last term, Vincent Kompany powered home his second header in as many outings, boosting his points tally to 25 for the season. In light of Chelsea’s faltering rearguard and the absence of Leighton Baines, the talismanic captain is emerging as a prime pick among the premium defenders. Kompany has claimed almost 80,000 new owners as price teeters on the brink of another FPL price rise to 6.2.

On that note, Aleksandar Kolarov (5.5) is becoming more difficult to ignore as an alternative. The Serbian’s rampaging runs look certain to harvest attacking returns given his propensity to join the attack and his service from a dead-ball. Gael Clichy’s return to the bench might deter potential investors due to the threat of rotation, with Pellegrini’s teamsheet at Everton of keen interest.

Blues Exposed As Hazard Falters

Eden Hazard blanked for the second Gameweek running as the Blues’ defence was picked apart by Manuel Pellegrini’s troops. Only Sunderland (26) have conceded more shots inside the box than Chelsea over the opening two Gameweeks, prompting Branislav Ivanovic’s 30.4% ownership to weigh up their options.

Hazard missed a golden opportunity to equalise with what was only his second attempt at goal across the opening two fixtures. In the wake of Alexis Sanchez’ starring display against Crystal Palace, some Hazard owners might be contemplating a straight swap for the explosive winger. The fact that Chelsea face off against West Brom and Palace in the next two Gameweeks bolsters the appeal of holding tight. However, Hazard has already been sold more than any other midfielder in the Gameweek to this point and is second only to Wayne Rooney in overall sales.

John Terry – who played every single minute of the previous campaign – was replaced by Kurt Zouma at half time, having struggled to contend with the pace and movement of City’s elusive forward line. Although that tactical decision is unlikely to portend a severe reduction in playing time, this new threat of rotation is certainly worth factoring in.

Sanchez Return Inspires Gunners Win

Olivier Giroud bounced back from a listless performance in Arsenal’s season-opener to open his account with a sublime first-time finish as Arsenal ran out 2-1 winners at Selhurst Park.

The France international was again favoured over Theo Walcott in the lone striker role, much to the dismay of the latter’s 6.8% ownership – who will now certainly be engineering exit plans – over 50,000 have sold Walcott on in the Gameweek with his price already dropping to 8.9.

Alexis Sanchez marked his first start of the campaign with an assist, after his header was diverted into the Eagles’ net by Damien Delaney. The Chilean livewire was a constant menace to the home defeat and, based on his display, is surely likely to cement “untouchable” status on the Arsenal teamsheet. Sanchez is still owned by under 10% of FPL managers to this point, despite heavy investment overnight.

Mesut Ozil edged ahead of Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla in the contest between Arsenal’s 8.5-priced midfielders, chalking up an assist and two bonus points for a seven-point haul. The German playmaker is arguably the least prone to rotation among the trio but has registered the fewest attempts at goal (three) in these early stages.

Hector Bellerin reclaimed a starting berth on his return from the treatment room. With match-ups against Newcastle United and Stoke City in the next three Gameweeks (LIV, new, STO), the Gunners should stand a decent chance of securing their first clean sheet of the season.

            There will be a pile of "I'm injured" claims, causing price drops, followed by afew actual injuries caused on international duty. And there will be new arrivals we might want in, or salesof current players or players who arrivecausing current ones to be benched. Too unpredictable.

      Would like to hear the Scoutcast team's thoughts on Ozil.

      Ozil is perhaps the only player in the Arsenal system whose role we have zero doubt of. It is extremely likely that Ozil gets played in the hole, with Sanchez preferred on the left, and Ramsey/Ox on the right. I'm sure he will tick along very nicely with about 6-8 points here and there (assist + baps) and will provide our teams with a nice source of consistent points...like Silva of a few years ago.

      However, he's rarely explosive vs Sanchez - and this is shown in his price tag. @ 2.5m cheaper, is Ozil a strong enough FPL player to hold that 2nd premium spot in our midfields?

          I know you have your own strong opinions on him vs Cazorla! 🙂 Caz definitely plays a pivotal role in the Arsenal system as well - I don't disagree. But when it comes to FPL, the past 2 games + charity shield have reaffirmed my thoughts on Ozil. He has that license to roam and his final pass is still his bread and butter, which bodes well for FPL (either goal or assist likely).

          Cazorla's very clever around the box and will get his fair share of points, but there's no doubt that when the going gets tough, Cazorla is instructed to sit deeper and launch the counter attack instead of moving up the pitch to be part of the attack. Ozil is likely to be at the final 2 moves of that attack either way.

      3. A-VB
        • 11 Years

        In yesterday's match too, Ozil could have had 2 more assists easily.

        One of which was a sitter that Giroud missed from 5 yards, I think it was prior to scoring that brilliant goal of his, and the other one was also a rather easy chance that Ramsey missed.

        I have high faith on Ozil and I do believe that he'll be a consistent source of points and will most likely provide great value at 8.5m.

        Not Montero, no.

        He is a fantastic player in real life but not in FPL. I think it'll be actually the like of Siggy, Ayew and Gomis who'll benefit from Montero's form as more team try to content him in that left flank, which will open space for the above mentioned trio and give them more time.

        As for Mahrez, he is on a hot streak, but this is not sustainable of course. So, if you are thinking of him as your fourth or fifth mid on wildcard (assuming you'll play 3-4-3), I would ask you to consider again. Having said that, I have him in my team from the start and have earned me 25 points and I'm extremely glad with that.

      Triple up on City assets on the cards in the near future for the scouts?

      And, dare I ask, what of the mighty Kolarov? Magnificent or mad? 😛

      Wildcard thoughts..

      I've this team made as an initial WC but I've an alternative made which seems a little more balanced.. So should I wait for hazard to come good or go all out city?

      Hazard Hope Team City In Form Team
      Courtois (McCarthey) ->> Courtois (McCarthey)
      Darmian, Alderweirald, Richards (Huth, Targett) ->> Darmian, KOLAROV, Richards (Huth, Targett)
      Hazard, Sanchez, Chadli, Ritchie (Barry) ->> SILVA, Sanchez, MANE, Ritchie (Barry)
      Aguero, Benteke, Deeney ->> Aguero, Benteke, Deeney

      After pulling in 24 points in Gw 1 and 16 in Gw 2 with Gomez, Milner And Surman (off the bench for Walcott).

      Is it madness that I am refusing to Wildcard!
      I want to Wildcard next week And start catching every price rise or price drop!

      Also can I realistically hope for anything put of this season with such a bad start

      Are hits worth it at this early stage of the season? As form players start to emerge and prices begin to fluctuate is it worth dropping 4 points to get your team in shape?

      For example, I have Walcott plus 1.0 ITB. Given his drop in price I'm 0.1 away from Silva. Do I drop Rooney for Gomis to free up funds or hold tight?

      How have the chips affected your opinion of your OR

      Very hard to actually gauge how well or how bad you are doing as the numbers are skewed by chip players.

      Will this be the first year that your OR is realtively guesswork until GW38?

      Is Ayew the real deal and can he sustain it?

      Swansea have some great fixtures and although most are going for Gomis, I prefer the 352 formation this season and considering Ayew instead.

      Will the Mahrez bandwagon fall flat on it's face once Leicester's schedule gets tougher. Surely more technical midfielders who are now cheaper like Redmond and Zaha are better long term options? Discuss.

      If you don't have Mahrez in your team - do you think you should get him in given his low cost? Or opt for the even cheaper Albrighten? Or ignore them both?

      I'd be interested to hear your views on Wildcarding this week.

      Are any of the scouts Wildcarding? If so why or why not?

      Also, do you remember a previous season starting like this, with so many 'good' picks failing to deliver?

      Thoughts on Kolarov this season. City are very attacking from the beginning. His link up with Silva and Sterling is fantastic. Great set-piece delivery. He is basically in his best form since coming to City. Can Clichy still muscle some games out of him?

      There's so many to choose from - Aguero, Silva, Sterling, Yaya, Kompany, Kolarov, Hart.

      A. Kun, Yaya, Kompany
      B. Kun, Silva, Kolarov

      Yes question is about wildcard. Miserable start. 50 points of 2 GW with Hendo Ritchie to play.

      Ruddy/Butland
      Cedric Alderweild Targett Morgan Francis
      Ritchie Hazard Sterling Walcott Hendo
      Kane Rooney Wilson

      Have 2 FT so thinking of Rooney/Walcott to Aguero/Mahrez

      Or should I use WC?

      Quite a simple question. Which budget forward looks the hottest prospect with everybody trying to accomodate for Aguero/Sanchez?

      I'm stuck between Defoe or Deeney, guaranteed starters with more consistency. I'm not one for joining bandwagons on budget forwards and I'm predicting Kone is just having some fortunate form similarly to naismith early last season.

      Would be great to hear some opinions

      What to do with Wilson and Richie. Transfer Wilson to Gomiz for -4 points... I would have 0.2 in the bank and I wanted to change Sakho but no idea who too.

      Ruddy, (Butland)

      Hey Granville Jonty and Co.,

      My question, to WC or not to WC?

      Panti/Hennesey
      Azpi/Kos/Cedric/Huth/Francis
      Haz/Sterling/Milner/Redmond/King
      Aguero/Pelle/Wilson

      Needless to say, I’m about 2 million rank and have lost about .2 mil in TV. I am hesitant to WC until GW4 because
      I used 2 FT already this week to do Walcott -> Redmond (picked him over Mahrez because I need a differential to make up points, risky yes) and Rooney -> Aguero.
      I’d rather have 3 GWs under my belt than 2 as it will be easier to judge form
      Not too keen on MCI away to eve, so I want to wait another GW before I add more City

      Thoughts?

      With such rapid price changes so early on, does it make sense to transfer earlier in the gameweek to ensure your move is still affordable?

      I know traditionally it is advised to wait until Friday (where deadline is saturday) before making a change in case of injuries etc. that could occur during the week.

      Getting hammered for price falls and watching others' team value rise!

    Can someone help me please? My current team is this:

    Schmeichel / Butland

    Cedric / Williams / O'Shea / Huth / Mings

    Walcott / Ozil / Hazard / Mane / Sterling

    Rooney / Wilson / Deeney

    I'm seriously contemplating my Wildcard this GW to try and shuffle to get Aguero and Sanchez into the squad. I realise I made a mistake with Walcott so want to replace my Arsenal coverage of him and Ozil with Sanchez, Hazard is worrying me although he has WBA/CPL in the next two GWKs. O'Shea & Mings haven't played so I think they need to go. Stoke look shaky at the back so a swap for Butland. And all 3 of my front line have been so far very poor.

    My team I want to get with the Wildcard is currently this:

    Schmeichel / __________

    Williams / Huth / ________ /________ / ________

    Mane / Sterling / Sanchez / _________ / _________

    Aguero / Gomis / ________

    37.8m in the bank. Can anyone help?

              The goals and assists that he scored in the first two weeks are in the past. What is in the present and into the future is the form that has delivered those points. He is playing very well. The goals/assists will be patchy, but form and fixtures suggest that he is a very good option.

    I understand why many veterans are against early WC, but I felt I had no choice. I messed up. I thought I started with a reliable, consistent team but they ALL started badly i.e. Chelsea, Southampton, Kane, Rooney. Most of them will of course come good but I could be miles behind by then.
    My new team is as follows, only Huth and Francis remain from old team. My main concern now is I've gone for 3x£4.5 defenders, too risky? It's obviously a quite bandwagonny. I'm not convinced by Ayew yet his fixtures convinced me. Would appreciate any advice;
    Butland, McCarthy
    Kolarov, Darmian, Huth, Galloway, Francis
    Sanchez, Silva, Ayew, Payet, Mahrez
    Aguero, Gomis, Kone

      Its bandwagonny in my opinion.

      Good teams will keep clean sheets. Top 4 teams should keep about 15 CS a season. That's not even one every 2 games. Chelsea and Arsenal will still keep plenty of cleanies, most likely in the weeks when Man Utd and City concede, so its swings and roundabout.

      Most £4.5m defs won't keep a lot of CS's so if you miss one you could be waiting a long time for the next one.

        Thank a lot everyone for the advice. Much appreciated. Yep 3-5-2. I've picked Galloway and Kone as I'm a toffee so know these players better than the others in same price bracket. They're subs for me but decent subs. Two weeks ago I wouldn't have dreamed of having City/Utd defenders instead of Che/Ars, but that's just the way things look? When things go back to normality then I can get them back in, shouldn't be too difficult. And it should be easy enough to keep an eye on bandwagons and get rid of them if/when they're found out.

    Sterling or Cazorla out for Mahrez to find Rooney to Aguero for -4?

    Alright guys. Just one last question!

    Sanchez | Manè | Payet | Chadli | Albrighton

    Aguero | Gomis | Sakho
    £2.5m ITB
    1FT

    A) Play AOA Chip (Muneisa benched in defence)
    B) Bench Albrighton and play 3-4-3

    Thanks

    please help only got 20pts this week

    a)Rooney / Walcott / Fab ----> Kun / Payet / Ayew
    b) Benteke / Walcott / Fab ----> Kun / Payet or Ayew / Mahrez

    Th keep Rooney option means I most likely sell him the next week for someone cheaper to bolster midfield or I WC

    Just stick with this lot?

    McCarthy (AVL)

    Kolarov (eve) - Darmian (NEW) - Targett (wat) - Muniesa (nor)

    Haz (wba) - Sanchez (LIV) - Payet (BOU)

    Aguero (eve) - Kane (lei) - Jerome (STK)

    Bench - Adrian - Albrighton (TOT) - Bassong (STO) - Westwood (cry)

    That said... Adrian does need sorting with Speroni due back next week...

          company looks solid again so don't see him missing too many, and even if he does it will be the odd one, wont be rotated in and out

    A) Walcott -> Mahrez
    Rooney-> Aguero

    B) Walcott -> Mahrez
    Coutinho -> Yaya

    C) Walcott-> Mahrez
    Coutinho -> Yaya
    Rooney -> Aguero plus a hit

    Would get Aguero in for Rooney or Yaya for Coutinho the following week if A or B.

    Is everyone playing their WC because they listened to others (with the best of interest) in pre-season rather than their own ideas and it hasn't worked out, therefore, having to go back to the drawing board.
