This season, weโ€™re rolling out a Scout Picks squad in the middle of each week in order to give you a heads-up over our thinking for the Gameweek ahead. This list of players also includes some names in contention for a place in our Spot the Differential article, though will, of course, be subject to change, depending on the injury situation as the days progress.

For Gameweek 3, hereโ€™s our current thinkingโ€ฆ

Goalkeepers

Having served his one-match suspension, Thibaut Courtois (5.4) comes back onto our radar as Chelsea look to bounce back against a West Brom side thatโ€™s yet to net this term. With David de Gea sidelined amid speculation on his future, Sergio Romero (5.1) targets a third consecutive clean sheet when Newcastle United pay visit. In the budget bracket, Palace’s Alex McCarthy (4.0) is pitted against an Aston Villa outfit thatโ€™s racked up the second-least attempts inside the box (seven).

Defenders

Manchester Unitedโ€™s back-to-back clean sheets encourage us to invest in their steady rearguard. Matteo Darmian (5.6) presents the strongest cast for inclusion, having notched two bonus points in both matches.

Joel Ward (4.5) bagged his second ever Premier League goal in the Eaglesโ€™ 2-1 defeat to Arsenal. Among the leagueโ€™s full roster of defenders, the Palace centre-back ranks fourth for penalty box touches (six) and second for goal attempts (three) this term, underlining his enhanced goal threat.

Notwithstanding the threat of rotation now Gael Clichyโ€™s returned to the bench, Aleksandar Kolarovโ€™s (5.5) marauding wing play could well harvest attacking returns when the Sky Blues visit Goodison Park. Aside from boasting a share of set-piece duty, the Serbian full-back has executed four more key passes (seven) than any defender this campaign.

Swanseaโ€™s attacking contingent are understandably garnering the bulk of the plaudits for their fast start, yet Ashley Williams’ (5.0) contribution shouldnโ€™t be ignored. The imposing Welshman scooped all three bonus points last time out and will fancy his chances of rebuffing Sunderlandโ€™s lacklustre forward line.

Aaron Creswell (5.5)ย retains a spot in our Scout Picks by virtue of West Hamโ€™s favourable home tie against Bournemouth. The Cherries failed to net in the opening two Gameweeks, increasing our faith in the Hammersโ€™ back line.

Midfielders

Alexis Sanchez looked in ominous form against Palace โ€“ tallying more attempts inside the box (six) than any midfielder in Gameweek 2 โ€“ which bodes well for the Gunnersโ€™ home clash against Liverpool. Elsewhere in London, Yohan Cabaye (6.6) reiterated his Fantasy potential with a 10-point haul in Gameweek 1 and will be looking to pull the strings when the Villains come to town, while Dimitri Payet (7.6)ย should find pockets of space between Bournemouth’s banks of four.

David Silva (10.0) is more than justifying his top-tier price tag in these early stages, having bagged three assists in two starts. Everton will certainly do well to stymie the twinkle-toed Spaniardโ€™s captivating start to the campaign. Conversely, Sadio Mane (8.0) has yet to set alight but should cause all sorts of problems for Watfordโ€™s new-look defence.

With three goals to his name already this season, Riyad Mahrez (5.7) could enjoy further success against Tottenahmโ€™s mistake-laden rearguard. Meanwhile,ย Andre Ayew (7.1)ย  seeks a third strike in as many starts as the Swans roll up to the Stadium of Light.

Juan Mata (8.5) has piqued our interested as a mid-priced differential, given that the Spain international recorded nine points against Villa andย could be the chief architect of the Magpies’ downfall. Nathan Redmond (5.5) clearly has his shooting boots on in the wake of back-to-back goals on the Canaries’ return to the Premier League.

Forwards

Sergio Aguero (13.1) tested the nerve of all non-owners on his return to the starting line-up last Gameweek. Aside from gracing the scoresheet, last seasonโ€™s Golden Boot victor fashioned a wealth of shooting opportunities (seven) against Chelseaโ€™s typically resilient back four, auguring another strong display against everton.

A home fixture against Newcastle United presents Wayne Rooney (10.5) with the perfect platform to kick-start his season. On a similar note, Diafro Sakho (6.5) possesses the pace and movement to trouble Bournemouthโ€™s defence.

Troy Deeney (5.5) looks the pick of the promoted forwards this Gameweek, as Watford welcome Southampton to Vicarage Road. The Saints shipped five goals in their opening two clashes, with the Hornets lone frontman primed to capitalise on their defensive vulnerabilities.

Bafetimbi Gomis (7.1) looks to have filled the void left upon Wilfried Bony’s departure; the in-form marksman will doubtless be licking his lips as he prepares to face off against a Black Cats defence that’s been breached seven times already.

Community Champion

For the second week in a row the Community Champion beat the Scout Picks. Gameweek 2 Champion Daniel Levy โ€“ Not the Spurs Chairman racked up an impressive tally of 52 thanks to Liverpoolโ€™s Christian Benteke. The Scouts’ faith in Wayne Rooney proved their undoing, with their Gameweek 2 picks mustering just 44 points.

The community member who beats the Scout Picks by the biggest margin over the campaign will win a ยฃ100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Contributors and Moderators League for the following season. Gameweek 1 Champion Fuzzy Warble beat us by a 12-point margin and remains the champion to beat.

Patch has been named Gameweek 3 Community Champion following this weekโ€™s lottery.

    The argument for Lukaku:

    1) Everton were 5th 2 years ago and challenged for the top 4 early in the season. They were bad last year, some of that can be blamed on regression to the mean but it is clear that the Europa League does affect these sides with smaller squads.

    2) Everton's fixtures aren't that bad for attacking returns. They have historically played well against Man City, Spurs are poor defensively and Chelsea are all over the shop right now.

    3) He is in form and will be looking to have a big season so he can move to a club competing for trophies.

    4) Martinez sides seem to play up to their opposition.

People are picking and choose when they choose fixtures over form and form over fixtures

Lukaku has the good form + the teams he is versing (Chelsea, Spurs) have the bad form defensively...I see no reason why he can't score against them

Man City look tough at the moment but as you said, Everton always seem to do well against them

I'm torn between him and Pelle. Everyone talks about him as the troll, and I've been trolled in the past too. Wouldn't normally go anywhere near him, but if he performs in character he could actually go on scoring during the next three fixtures just to spite everyone...

I feel like he is just a poor captain choice because he sometimes blanks in "easy" games. But with Aguero around, you don't need him as captain

I would wait one week on Lukaku, let's see how he does against City. Then decide. He's someone i'm looking at for one of the striker spots.

Agreed with all above. Form > Fixture, but I still feel Gomis, Pelle, Sakho, Diouf will have more chances to score in the coming fixtures.

Pelle had the most shots at goal of any forward so far, but poor conversion rate

The thing is that Lukaku is clearly a better player than all of those other players. It is easy to forget that he is only 22 because it seems like he has been around forever.

    Need more opinions please.

    1) Kompany or Kolarov
    2) Silva or Yaya

    Which 3 would you pick?

If you're in need of some extra money, I would go with Kolarov, Yaya and Shaw but especially Silva can produce considerably more FPL points than Yaya with that extra 1,5m

The captain poll from the last week. The captain poll this week. Almost every single poll when there is a BBC live coverage including the latest "Who is most likely to challenge Barca and Real".

0 free transfers. £1.3m in the bank, annoyingly £0.2m away from Ozil > Silva

Is it worth giving Hazard one more chance vs West Brom or ship him for Silva?

Prefer to have Silva over Yaya but Ozil will be Sanchez by GW4 and he has Liverpool this week so not sure what to do.

I'm keeping Haz for one more week then selling to Sanchez, and going Sanchez/Ozil double against Newcastle. Silva to follow in GW5 for Mane. I could get both and drop Ozil for GW4 for a hit, but will see how it goes.

If money is no issue, I'd say hold off; you have a decent team for this week. But if SIlva's expected rise will hurt you, then may need to pull the trigger.

Yeh, thinking that vs Brom it will be the deciding factor of chelsea coverage for a while. Surprisingly money isnt too big of an issue now so will probably wait at least and save taking a hit.

Just didnt see Ozil performing spectacularly against Pool but hopefully he will change my mind ๐Ÿ™‚

Im debating Mane myself, 2 incredible fixtures coming up so will give him that last chance.

Thanks for the second opinion SLFC

      Hey Swede,

I think Silva might be going up in price tonight ( tomorrow at latest ) I have a similar situation myself regarding Silva and Sanchez, not sure who to get and would require a hit to get either unless I get rid of Hazard.

Tempted to play wild card, prefer not to.

Id rather save the wildcard for when the fixtures change halfway through towards GW10-12, trying to ignore any temptation. Depending on your team you could just be a -8 away from sorting things out which would be preferable.

I wouldnt get Sanchez for this week, if you already have an Arsenal mid then stick as Pool are looking decent at the back for now. Trying to justify not losing Hazard but it looks to be the only option...

Silva going up isnt too big of a worry as he will be in my team by GW4 so i can deal with £0.1-2m

I just know that if i go for Yaya now its gna make switching to Silva pretty silly.

        Thanks for the feedback DF34

Cheers Swede, Yep I think I would even prefer a -8 and make 4 changes to my team ( have 2 FT ) and still have Wildcard available to me for later. Think I may lose Hazard too.

It's difficult to resist temptation with a lot of people playing WC

          Cheers for feedback !!

Provided you dont have any players your losing value on, i think thats the main reason some are panicking and WCing. Just my opinion though, i think some are looking towards the transfer windows to WC and play the money game, but personally i would just like the safety of it to be there for when times are going really downhill lol

    Current Squad

    Ruddy/Butland
    Kos, Cedric, Huth, Francis, RIchards
    Haz, Ozil, Mane, Payet, Bentaleb
    Aguero, Pelle, WIlson

0ITB, used my FT this week to get Aguero in

I am not totally dissatisfied with my team (albeit a slow start),and think I can manage things for now (Get Sanchez next week, Silva week after, address the D along the way for a hit or two).

So I have been resisting hitting WC all week, as but would appreciate anyone else's thoughts on the matter?

    Current wc draft :

    Fabianski, McCarthy
    Darmian, Bellerin, Williams, Saylor, XXXX
    Sanchez, Silva, Mahrez, Westwood, XXXX
    Aguero, Gomis, XXXX

Which option would you go for out of:

    A. Kolarov, Payet, Diouf
    B. Huth, Yaya, Sakho

    ?

A, personally. Diouf will be a nice differential with his favourable fixtures over next few weeks. Payet looks the real deal, backing up last seasons huge assists total. Kolarov is on fire too

Appreciate any advice on this team:

    McCarthy/Butland
    Muniesa/Kompany/Darmian/Richards/Targett
    Sanchez/Toure/Ayew/Payet/Mahrez
    Sakho/Aguero/Gomis

Keep thinking i have an over reliance on West Ham and Swansea.

Strong front 8 but who are you benching?!?

Maybe upgrade Targett who won't play once Bertie is back and just go with one Swansea attacker?

Any love for Sanchez (c) this weekend?
Lots of Aguero love, obviously, but I didn't think Liverpool looked good at the back at all last night despite the clean sheet. Just thinking Sanchez could tear it up?
        Thoughts?

They suffered at the back but they kind of did it like a team. In the end they managed to keep two CSs in two games. Arsenal is definitely going to score against them but i wouldn't be surprised if they didn't score more than one.

Fixtures vs Form vs Better form worse fixtures

Saw the Lukaku vs Pelle discussion and that was trigger to add him to the options ๐Ÿ˜€ Was initially weighing up Benteke vs Pelle.

Should have waited a couple of weeks maybe. Damn this game

            Lukaku has horrendous fixtures.

Personally would go with Benteke. Saints are going through a bit of a patch at moment and I'm not overly sure on Pelle's returns

Its the old form vs fixtures mate. Thing is Everton looked strong on the counter attack v Soton with Lukakau the main beneficiary. When on a run of form, he looks like he can score against anyone, dare I say it almost "fixture -Proof"

I've... seen things... you people wouldn't believe. Attacking full backs on fire off the shoulder of Ramires; I watched hazard glitter in the dark near the Ashton gate ... All those... moments... will be lost, in time, like [chokes up] tears... in... rain. Time... to retire

I'd say Gomez..however his competition is Alberto Moreno who played about 20 mins yesterday and looked really good so Gomez could lose his place
