We delve into the members data this evening after the Gameweek came to its conclusion last night. Stoke, Southampton and Watford’s forwards all come under analysis, whilst Sergio Aguero and Alexis Sanchez make a strong claim for immediate investment on the back of their weekend showings.

For me i cant justify having Gomis in my team, he is too much of a short term option, therefore im pondering between Benteke and Pelle.

A front line of Kun - Gomis - Ighalo, looks too weak for my liking.

I must be pushing the 40th-50th WC draft now?

    McCarthy - Schmeichel

    Shaw - Kolarov - Williams - Alderweireld - Taylor

    Silva - Sanchez - Mahrez - Fab - Fletcher

    Kun - Ighalo - Pelle

Someone tell me everything will be ok!!!

He finished last season very well too.

Is on pens and has a good supy line. His finishing isn't always the best but he'll get chances and will score goals imo

Cheers chap. It's easy to forget that he barely got on the pitch before Bony left. By then in think it took him a little time to get going but I don't think he's taken a backwards step since

Fwiw, I sold Pelle for Gomis earlier this week.

Gomis: hot, team is hot, team is talented, fixtures decent, price rising
Pelle: Good, team floundering, fixtures very good.

I went aggressive (it is early) for the cheaper, hotter player on the team that is clearly playing better. Time will tell. Food for thought for you .... I made my move a few days ago.

This topic was all over the place last week and I just wanted to add something to it.

They removed the place where you can see easily if an opponent is on his Wild Card and everybody had been saying that now you can only tell if they played it once the play has started.

Actually, you can tell, but you have to be watching closely. You have to know how much money ITB the opponent has at the end of the prior week. During the week they have their Wild Card active, you will see that their money ITB may change from day to day, but that it still shows them as having made zero transactions for the week. The Team Value can always go up or down with risers/fallers, but the ITB only changes with transactions. They blinded the part where it said Wild Card active, but they didn't blind/blank the changes in the ITB

Now you really have to be kind of obsessively monitoring the other teams in your ML in order to know this, but I just wanted to let people know that it is indeed possible, if you really want to know that info.

People seem to bring up the desire to know when they are in a tight finish near the end of the season or when they are in H2H knockout tournaments for money. Trying to save theirs for as late in the tournament as possible.

In general I figure that if you focus on your own team, you'll do better than if you try to manage it with an eye to the others. The only time that comes into play in my mind is at the end of the season when you are trying to close out a ML victory

This website is built almost entirely upon disproportionate hunger for information, regardless of how useful it is 🙂 Witness the clamour for the team sheets at 2pm on a Saturday when you'd be forgiven for thinking every second counts but actually the decisions were made hours ago. What's the rush? Logic doesn't apply!

No need to sneak about - I activated my wildcard yesterday :). Had a hilariously bad start and then been completely out of the loop on GW2 goings on due to a last minute work trip to the US. Managed to check in for 5 minutes, saw the results and the fuss on the site and thought I should join in the WC bandwagon, still don't know if it was a good idea! I probably won't be back on an even keel until GW 5.

Seems like there's a lot of that going on. I'm glad I'm not quite in that boat. Losing a bit of value on some defenders, but my front eight is in good shape, so I can take a bit of time to square things.

A question for those of you on a wildcard this week:

Do you think you would have activated your wildcard this week if last season's wildcard rules were still in place (i.e. you could carry the first wildcard into the second half of the season)?

Personally yes, the rules did not affect my decision.
Multiple price drops, an awful score, Sterling only man C involvement, Rooney being gash, Sanchez and Aguero being up to speed quickly, Chelsea looking sluggish, having a Sunderland defender, having Betaleb, Maherz looking like a 4th mid, Sothampton looking so so poor These many reasons were why i did it!

I would still have taken it methinks ... stinking team and needed to catch some risers. It's a regular strategy though, and I'm not upset I had to take it this week!

Yes, playing it in the early gameweeks was a popular strategy last year too - half of all the season-available wildcards played last year were activated in the first four weeks.

      Ooh, good question.
My guess is that I would have kept the wildcard intact. I managed to keep my wc until the second half last year, although I can't say that I used it all that well. I've proved to myself that I can play the patient, disciplined game when needed.
Plus, the wc will be valuable with the chip gimmicks in the second half of the season.

      1. Diva
        • 11 Years
        10 years, 3 months ago

I think I would have kept to, the bonus for holding it into the second half of the season (if that were still an option) would have been enhanced by having the chips. Having got used to holding my wildcard for the second half of the season, I was not totally sure what to do with it in the first 19 weeks!

so i can shoe horn sanchez in with silva and kun... but it means downgrading Barkley to Obertan and Cedric to Yoshida

    worth it?

    Schmeichel - Fabianski

    Darmian - Azpilicueta - Martin - Yoshida - Gomez

    Mahrez - Sánchez - Silva - Obertan - Payet

    Agüero - Gomis - Sakho

Yeah. It is quite weird after last year, but judging by their form, and fixtures over the next 7 or so games, hard to justify. I've sold my 2, hazard (last gw for Alexis), and Ivan (for kolarov), take.

Assuming you're playing with 3 at the back, I'm guessing you're going to play Darmian and Azpi most weeks, which leaves you with one gap. I also guess you'll fill that gap with Gomez unless Liverpool has a stinking fixture for as long as he keeps his place. So do you need a pure rotation on the fourth and fifth defenders?

I like Francis, who may soon be 4.4m. I've transferred him out on my wildcard this week as a precaution against the possible price fall, but will probably bring him back in before the deadline. I can't recall how Bournemouth rotate with Norwich though, but what really matters is whether one or the other or both can cover when your principal defenders have really nasty fixtures.

    QUICK POLL:

    1. Hazard, Ashley Williams, Gomez, Richards; or

    2. Silva, Azpilicueta, 5.5 def (Shaw/Mert/Bellerin), Ward; or

    3. Fabregas/Ozil, Azpi, Kolarov, 5.5 def (Shaw/Mert/Bellerin)

Not very, that position is very uncertain in he Newcastle lineup. Also, despite his apparent attacking style his actual output is incredibly infrequent. I'd rather go for Westwood's security of starts and set piece assist threat.

    Gk 4.5/ 4.0
    Darmian/ Williams/ Richards/ Tagett/ Gomiz
    Hazard/ Yaya/ Sanchez/ Maherz/ Westwood
    Gomis/ Aguero/ Sakho

    0.2 ITB

A- GKs. was on Ruddy and Rudd. Currently Ruddy and Mccarthy. Any better?
B- Darmian or Kolrov? Currently Darmian due to certainty of starts
C The big one. Stick with Haz or downgrade him and then Silva over yaya, upgrade Gomis.

Careful with Darmian. You'd be climbing on a train that has well left the station and may come down sooner than you'd like, forcing another move. I'd try and get the next train. Kolarov is defo earlier than Darmian as of right now.

      A. Nothing to add
      B. Darmian
      C. I like what you have, although you will face a dilemma if a more expensive forward option like Benteke or Kane starts firing.
      D. I'm not sure about Targett in there. Isn't Bertrand due back soon?

I guess Sanchez to Ozil and Gomis upgrade would be route to higher price forward if one was on fire. Would be happy to go Sakho to Deeny later if funds really needed later.
Targett. Think i may get a few weeks out of him. Well hope! If team value gets up a bit he would be where i spent some making him a 4.5

      Probably not.
Historically, there is very little correlation between keepers' price an their points scored. Especially with save points (keepers on bad teams tend to get more) and the enhanced bonus for saves this year, the expensive keepers may not be worth it.

Cheers Nabil. I was thinking the same thing but Everton being Everton and also Firmino probably coming into first team action, I'm not so sure. I was actually offered Barkley for Firmino, so I think there's a trap there. 😆

That's what I figured. I was going to play a 3-5-2 and bench Kone until the fixtures get better and re-evaluate. Thanks all.

I think I am going to WC. Totally independent of price changes.

Form players at every position are getting too hard to ignore...

    Darmain/Shaw, Kolarov, Williams

    Payet Silva/YYT Sanchez Mahrez

    Aguero Gomis etc...

My exact team as well. Silva over YYT. Aguero is back and YYT struggles with him on the field. Silva thrives with Aguero on the field. Darmian over Shaw. Looks like he'll get more bonus points.

Won every H2H but my team has zero goals to date. 🙂

Seriously though I rarely see as many as 8 players who I think will upgrade my team. Now may be the time to pull the trigger.

If it's not for price changes, it's not worth doing it. Form is temporary. After couple of GWs, you'll want to WC again to bring in new form players.

Possibly before Friday but don't know when

Drops are harder to predict especially around wc silly season

Say there is 8 people set to rise, 3-4 might rise so it seems it's similar pattern for the drops but a bigger scale

So is playing a low cost keeper a good strategy or is it necessary to have a keeper that play for one of the top teams. Im thinking about going with guzan. Thoughts?

For me, no. Keep them cheap and it's been a while since I've had 2 working keepers. I just use one 4.5 keeper all season usually.

Reason being is I'd rather have the top defenders than keeper, and usually if the better teams concede, the keeper has less saves in general... The cheaper keepers may concede but the baps and saves could still be good. Along with the odd cs thrown in that may not have been expected, thus resulting in more baps

      Just my 2c

Sometimes it's ok to start off with a big gun keeper then swap to a cheapie
