We delve into the members data this evening after the Gameweek came to its conclusion last night. Stoke, Southampton and Watford’s forwards all come under analysis, whilst Sergio Aguero and Alexis Sanchez make a strong claim for immediate investment on the back of their weekend showings.
- The case for Memphis Depay
So you've all seen Memphis Depay's goals in the Champions League qualifier last night and I want to convince you he's the real deal.
Memphis moved to United for £25m this summer on the back of two seasons of being a teenage shot monster in the Dutch Eridivisie. In both seasons he went at over 5 shots per game and dominated scoring in the league. Maintaining shots per game at above 5 in consecutive seasons is something only Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez, and Depay have done since 2010 across Europe.
Okay so Depay played in the Dutch league to get his 5 shots per game, so let’s say he regresses a bit in the Premier League and cuts his shots per game to 4. Only 14 players across the big 6 leagues have had 4 shots per game twice or more since 2010. Here's that list:
Premier League: Aguero, Suarez, Rooney, RVP
Bundesliga: Robben
La Liga: Ronaldo, Messi
Serie A: Zlatan, Balotelli, Diamanti, Di Natale
Ligue 1: Zlatan, Gignac
Eredivisie: Depay
La Liga/Serie A: Higuain
It's a pretty elite company Memphis is keeping and at age 21 he is the youngest player here.
"Yeah but it's the Eredivisie"
Okay we are only 2 league games into the season but he has already had 10 shots, showing his 5 shots per game potential.
Including the qualifier Man United have had three competitive games this season and this has been their collective and Memphis' attacking output over those games:
1-0 Vs Spurs
Man U: 9 shots, 2 shots on target
Memphis: 3 shots, 0 SoT, 33% shot involvement
1-0 Vs Villa
Man U: 9 shots, 2 SoT
Memphis: 7 shots, 1 SoT, 1 key pass, 89% shot involvement
3-1 Vs Brugges
Man U: 19 shots total, 8 SoT
Memphis: 8 shots, 5 SoT, 3 key passes, 2 goals, 1 assist, 58% shot involvement, 100% goal involvement
Memphis' combined involvement:
18/38 Shots (48%)
6/12 Shots on Target
4 key passes
22/38 shot involvement (58%)
3/5 goal involvement
This is outstanding, he is already the fulcrum of Man United's attacking output with nearly 50% of their shots and 60% shot involvement. For 8.5m the fulcrum of a top 4 team's attack is an absolute bargain. If you’re on a wildcard get him, if you’re not make plans.Nice. You may have just convinced me - but Yaya or Depay?
Can you do 3 City without Yaya?
Not without getting rid of Sanchez
hmmm maybe Yaya for the current fixtures but Memphis will outscore him over the season.
Cheers. Maybe I'll just have Memphis for this week and trade him out for Yaya (WAT)
that sounds like a decent plan to me
Are you a MU fan? 😀
Arsenal fan actually, that's a 1989 away shirt in my grav 😀
No doubting his abilities and skills.
Yet he's got someway to go to prove himself in EPL, physically.
EPL is no Club Brugge who'll give him so much space.
I like the guy though, even if I'm not planning to own him for FPL right away. But where would he fit in this midfield?
Payet - Sanchez - silva - Westwood - mahrezPayet
I think now is the time to be playing 5 midfielders
This sure makes me feel good about captaining him this week 😀
Wayne Rooney: "Memphis ate all the shots!"
😆
Cos Roonpig ate all the pies.
By that measure, everyone should get Wijnaldum, who was the main reason Depay could do that well.
even though Memphis is keeping it up without him?
For one game against *ahem* opposition.
Underlying stats which I'm mainly looking at, I'd argue all three games.
Understood although Balotelli had even more shots last year...
But I appreciate the benefit also of stats, but I just need to see him perform/convert in the EPL a little better.you'll see it this weekend 😉
Nice post. I would like to know the conversion stats of those you mention compared to Depay.
Cheers.Working on it
Memphis (10.5%)
Aguero (17.2%)
RVP (15.6%)
Suarez (12.5%)
Rooney (15.6%)
Messi (22.6%)
Ronaldo (16.1%)
Robben (20.3%)
Zlatan (17.1%)
Balotelli (11.4%)
Diamanti (5.5%)
Di Natale (17.1%)
Gignac (7.5%)
Not great news for Memphis but I'm willing to give him leeway due to his age. Thanks for the effort Balders.
It tells a story. The only big hitter out of kilter is Suarez. Other guys have better conversion rates that can be compare realistically. I think Depay is going to be a great pick. I do think though his shots per game will drop 20% in the EPL.
Therefore, 10.5% x 80% = 8.25%. Not quite enough for me to fo for him ATM.
The best post this week though by far.Cheers Smeggs. I was vaguely aware when posting that Depay's conversion was lower than most elite forwards but I hadn't got numbers on it.
I think the argument is still there to be made for Depay purely because of his price at 8.5m considering Aguero, RVP, Suarez and Rooney have all been worth 13m in their prime seasons.Another thing on your side is he will get better. He is the real deal IMO but there is no threat of a price increase yet and I have Mata short term for a swap.
Those 2 goals will give him a heap of confidence to. Nice post Balders.
One potential problem is if he blanks against Newcastle he'd be almost certain to drop in price as he's already very close to a drop according to the price change sites.Eh, I'm in for the long haul Eriksen style on this one.
That's easier said than done in this dynamic FPL world 🙂
true true, but it'll take more than one drop for sure to dissuade me.
He was at -99.9% on one site earlier, but since those two goals he has moved significantly in the other direction. Many of those transfers in and out will have been wildcard transfers of course, but (unless there are sudden injury concerns) which way do you expect his transfer movement to go for the rest of the week?
Thanks for keeping so on track with these price changes! Personally I think this midweek performance will be enough to stave off the sellers.
It almost certainly will. (Though technically it is possible for published NTI to suggest a player is going in one direction while effective NTI are actually pushing him in another direction.)
thanks for the great post, I really appreciate you using stats to support your answer.
Excellent analysis.
I'm thinking Sanchez Depay Silva Mahrez 4.5.
Depay looked outstanding today. He looks a lot better than Rooney.
Only thing is leaving Hazard out.same mid as me
excellent post, honestly a huge captain option this week
But ManU look sh*te
Agree. They will conceed this weekend NC win at 8/1 worth a tenner
I notice Balotelli is on that list of players who have have averaged 4 shots or more per game in two seasons since 2010. Balotelli had lots of shots at the start of last season too and we know how that turned out.
You've done some good research Balders, but it's shots on target and shots in box that I'm most interested in and against Premier League opposition the stats you've laid out don't look so hot. Early days of course, but there's not enough there to convince me yet.Very valid point on Balo though I count him as 1 black mark of 13. Of course its safer to wait but I hope you've got plans if he hauls vs Newcastle.
Man Utd's fixtures turn after Newcastle so I can probably give him a little more time. My current wildcard draft leaves me wriggle room to cover various possibilities should they emerge.
true on the fixtures, also see above for my reply to Smeggs for conversion data. I'm adding Diamanti and Gignac to my black mark list to make it 3/13
I could do payet to depay. Considering waiting to see if he gets a price drop, then I'll do it saving a .1 I'll surely get back.
Great post. I'm holding off for now simply because United look atrocious. I'll stick with Eriksen for now and keep an eye on him.
Its the form and fixtures of United as a whole I'm worried about. Depays shots in the league have been speculative long range efforts. He does strike me as a flat track bully though and could do well against lesser opposition. Wouldn't surprise me if he does well against Newcastle, but then the fixtures get tough.
What we saw him do against Brugges last night? That's what we're all secretly hoping he's actually going to be like in the league - cutting in, shooting, crossing, running weaker opposition back lines ragged. Thanks for the post!
Skills Depay the billls
does this fit in the fpl team name character limit?
This is all pie in the sky.
Give him a bit of credit Doosra.
Radamel Falcao
You are not very observant, are you?
It's just the fixtures that are the problem. Now is not really the time to get him. Gameweek 10, however...
Reasons for: he shoots lots
Reasons against: he misses lots
Not saying he's a bad pick but I'm hardly gonna jump on his salad spoon just because he put two past BruggesGreat post. As a United fan I agree. Memphis has huge potential. I am on a wildcard at the moment and am bringing him in.
It's strange how people undervalue Brugge. They were very intense and pressured United physically for long periods. Eventually, though, they got tired and opened up, but the belgians were no pushovers and got so far into the qualifiers for a reason. They are better (more physical anyway) than many/most PL teams.
Newcastle are without Janmaat which may allow Memphis that extra yard of space this weekend.
So in PL he has managed 1 SoT out of 10 shots in total? Not impressed. If I'm not mistaken, his scoring record the last two seasons in Eredivisie is worse than Dirk Kuyt's in his last two seasons, just to put things into perspective.
His willingness to shoot will eventually lead to goals, and he looks much more dangerous as an inverted winger on the left than as a number 10, but I think I'll go with Yaya for their nice run, and change for Depay when the fixtures turn.
Gm dzz...
My team has lost already 0.4m in value:(
Don't know what to do...just wc?
Have mane/hazard/sterling/holebas/Coates /Wilson who might all fall furtgerI still like/have faith in my team tho
If you really think they will turn it around (Hazard will) then keep.
Otherwise it might be worth taking a hit just to keep your TV somewhere near 100.00
If you're happy with all the options stick with it. Prices fall quickly at the stage of the season if people blank a couple of times but rise again quickly as well. For example, if Sterling bags a brace this weekend you'll make your money back.
If I were you, Coates would be my biggest worry. Balotelli could score against Sunderland at the moment.
Continuing from last page. Would you double up with both Payet and Sakho?
I don't have that much confidence in them.
I'm going with Payet myself.
Schmeichel
Morgan - Alderweireld - Az
Depay - Payet - Lens - Hazard
Benteke - Deeney - Rooney
Bench: Cech - Clyne Ritchie Francis
I have 2 FTs and I want to use 1 to free space for another, any suggestions in 1 transfer?A) Francis + Depay
B) Toby + Manetriple captain Aguero coming soon
A DGW would me more appropriate I think.
dgw with anyone or hope a dgw with aguero comes.. pretty sure he can score a hatrick and hes due for a monster score
That would be ideal.
Saving my chips until later too. Bench boost during a double gameweek is ideal.
A bench boos might require too much tinkering with your side. It maybe an idea to see what points sit on your bench on a weekly basis and make a decision from there.
I was thinking this initially, but getting any added value from a Bench Boost because of the DGW surely means you have so many players playing two games that some are on the bench.
Never in my many years of playing have I had any more than 5/6 players in my tram benefiting from a DGW, let alone 11+.
Yes, you could use a WC to build a team specifically for it, but considering there may only be 4 (max 6) teams that are doubled up, you may not be keen on 2/3 of them, and you can only have a maximum of three from each, how realistic is it to get 15 DGW players in your squad? This could also potentially leave you with a squad that's not well suited to points scoring in the following weeks, and may take several weeks to dismantle.
Does anyone disagree with this? I've been only contemplating iit this week, so I'd always assumed I would wait for a DGW too.Agree. It sounds like dreamland but you'd leave yourself with a shambles of a team afterwards. If there was a GW37 DGW it would be worth it but not otherwise IMO.
a) Hazard and Payet and Oxford
or
b) Silva and Memhpis and a 4.5 def
I got a reply last page but I need more, this defines my WCnvm, Balders answered my question
B
thanks broski
Thoughts on my wildcard team?
Courtois, McCarthy
Kolarov, Shaw, Williams, Richards, Targett
Hazard, Ozil, Ayew, Ritchie, Mahrez
Aguero, Pelle, SakhoDrop Courtois for a 4.5. and i go gomis over Pelle
Triple Swansea? Not sure about that. Planning to get Diouf in for Pelle GW6.
I like the defense.
Much expected everywhere else
A. barkley and watmore
or
B. Diouf and obertanB
neither
how nailed is obertan
I felt pressured into wildcard this week with all these price changes. Normally I don't like to wildcard so early but I feel confident going with City x 3 and Depay.
we're in this together
Thanks all
Sorry guys didnt get a reply on this before
A) Francis + Depay
B) Toby + Mane
A or BA for me
A
Cedric + Mane
a
A
With my team above.
Ritchie >>> Mahrez
Yes or No?I think Richie will come good with the fixtures coming up, but Mahrez looks good in front of goals too. Will last until Uloa returns I think.
Just made this on a WC.
Ruddy
Williams/ Gomez/ Richards
Hazard/ Depay/ Sanchez/ Yaya
Sakho/ Aguero/ 5.5
Rudd/ Westwood/ Targett/ 4.5 DEF
A power mid to cover a poor defence and Gomis now being a 5.5?Sorry, current and 'real' WC plan is this- just for comparison-
Gk 4.5/ 4.0
Darmian/ Williams/ Richards/ Tagett/ Gomiz
Hazard/ Yaya/ Sanchez/ Maherz/ Westwood
Gomis/ Aguero/ Sakhodangerous mid. seems like what I would've done if i still had the same aggressive mindset as last year but if you're wcing then you should make sure you have 5 defenders that are nailed till winter
oh - which is your team?
Anyone who watched Watford this season..
How do they defend?
Any prediction for the match against Sot'on, considering Sot'on will aim high to recover from last week's defeat. Was thinking if Captaining Pelle is a good punt! They don't look bad at the back - defensively none of the new boys look awful
PleaseRMWCT
a) Westwood---Ighalo/Gomis
b) 5.5mid---Ighalo/Vardy
c) Hoolahan---Vardy/Zarate
THANKS

this
Lagging behind in the ML and two red arrows in a row... Had 2FT and used them up with this team..
Schmeichel Rudd
Targett Azpi Francis Bellerin SNaylor
Depay Mahrez Hazard Milner Wanyama
Benteke Aguero Pelle
Rival is on wildcard.. Should I WC too? Any thoughts appreciated.. TIAYou should hold with that team. A few issues but not a WC
Any issue major that might deserve a -4 hit? I can take it assuming it pays off..
Don't panic. We're only two weeks in.
Thanks... Will do that.. 🙂
Depay - Payet - Lens - Haz - Ritchie
I have Schmeichel and Morgan from Leicester.
Ritchie to Mahrez
Yes or No?Would prefer Lens to Mahrez and use the money to upgrade elsewhere
Sunderland scored 3 goals and he did 2 assists, he is a crucial player in their attack and they play home with Swansea, don´t you think they can play better and maybe Lens does something? I think I prefer to do Ritchie to Mahrez this week and then do Lens to Ritchie other week and upgrade elsewhere, what do you think?
WC use this week, after bad start of this season
Option A:
Guzan (Butland)
Oxford M.Richard Kompany Cedric Gomez
Coutinho Payet YYT Barkley Mahrez
Kun Benteke Lakaku/Pelle
1 M left in the bank (Payet may consider to upgrade to Ozil or some others later)
Option B:
Guzan (Butland)
Oxford M.Richard Kompany Cedric Gomez
Coutinho Payet YYT Ozil Obertan
Kun Benteke Lakaku/Pelle
Question:
1) A or B
2) Lakaku or Pelle (South has easy fixture ahead: Wat, Nor, Wbm)
3) As Storke will have quite a good fixture so far, should we choose some stroke DEF ???
quite long but I reallly need some advise, Im in bad situation nowB but wouldnt have Cedric or Oxford in a WC team. Maybe not Coutinho either.
Lukaku
Butland is enoughThxs so for Cedric and Oxford, do u have any suggest dude. I have been thinking of my Def for a while
Well I regret doing Hazard and Walcott --> Sanchez and Payet Sunday night now!
Could've afforded Depay ahead of Payet, I hate making rushed transfers due to price fluctuations...so you would go for Depay based on his performance in the CL? Hope he can deliver in PL as well
stats suggest imminent explosion and NEW this week..
Yeah, I think so. Although I think I would've drafted in Payet at some point anyway. Depay was the furthest man forward for United at the weekend and three attacking returns last night makes him a player I fear.

Need to get rid of Sahko. Don't want to double up on west ham. Any suggestion?diouf
Diouf or Okazaki/Vardy
Not much in it for me
Diouf
Why get rid of Sakho? Did I miss something?
I havecpayet
With WH's upcoming fixture, why not double up?
I'm not sold on west ham. I'm on WC. Just not sure about it. Would you?

Had anyone found that accessing the main site on a mobile (android, chrome) leads to the stats pop-up boxes opening with half the data offscreen and inaccessible?
Try m.fantasy.premierleague.com instead. Why it doesn't redirect there on mobile screens I'll never know.
Anybody else think Aguero will be enough city coverage for the Everton game?
I don't want to WC and the only other option is a -8 hit.
Current team is:
Rutland
Azpi Kosc Williams Huth Targett
Sanchez Ozil Ayew Chadli Fletcher
Aguero Sakho PelleYep, but get more soon
Yeah you're fine imo
Yeah should be fine, but expect rises
Name 3 best DEF 5.0 or under
Richards, Gomez (risk acknowledged), Francis or Leicester defender
Sorry. At 5, go Lovren, Williams and a 4.5 from above
Williams, Francis, Lovren
Williams, Toby, Cedric
Cedric , Williams and Sagna(If he is nailed)
Williams, Huth, Toby
A. Gomis and Guzan (or other 4.5)
or
B. Vardy and Courtois?
Torn. Not convinced Gomis is the real deal, but like the idea of Swansea striker. Think Chelsea will rediscover the ability to defend soon.
Thanks. Will there be a chance of player moving .2 value in one day or it will have to be .1 then couple of days .1 if more people sell the players?
0.1 at a time
so like .1 in the next transfer date then if alot more people sell after that transfer date the next transfer date he will fall another .1? its the same for price rise?
Yes.
Do I need to keep going!! Had the worst start ever now on W/C CHEERS
Mignolet/ McCarthy
Gomez/ Darmian/ Huth/ Targett/ Baker
Mahrez/ Hazard/ Silva/ Wanyama/ Sanchez
Koné/ Gomis/ AgüeroHave 1ft and 3,5m itb. Shd I wc?
Butland -- Ruddy
Shaw Coates holebas -- huth Francis
Mata mane mahrez hazard sterling
Rooney Deeney --- Wilson
A: rooney >> kun..I want rooney this week but prices changes forcing my hand as rooney wil drop
B: hazard + Wilson >> westwood + kun (-4)....will bench westwood
C: holebas >> any def upto 5m
D: sterling or/hazard >> yaya or/and sanchez...(-4 if I do both)
E: WC as hazard/mane/sterling/rooney/wilson/holebas will drop in price ðŸ™I would wildcard. Lots of droppers there. Get aboard the City train.
I'd wildcard to be honest. All the forwards need to go, you need Silva or YaYa and to put more money into the defence
