Jon Walters is a slight doubt for Stoke’s trip to Norwich. Andros Townsend is ruled out for Tottenham. Reece Oxford is doubtful for West Ham, Newcastle’s Moussa Sissoko is struggling to be fit for the trip to United, whilst Garry Monk will make a late decision on the fitness of Ki Sung-yeung.

Mark Hughes has revealed that Jon Walters is a slight concern for the weekend with illness, though the attacker has returned to training. Hughes also commented on Bojan’s availability, suggesting that the Spaniard could be “involved in some capacity” against the Canaries.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Andros Townsend will miss the Leicester trip after suffering a minor ankle problem, having previously been sidelined by a shoulder injury.

Slaven Bilic will be without Mauro Zarate at the weekend, with the forward suffering a hamstring injury in training. Zarate revealed on his official twitter page that he expects to miss the Hammers’ next two matches. Reece Oxford is a doubt after missing a few days training with a niggle, according to the club’s official website. Adrian serves the first of a three-match ban after being sent off against Leicester last week.

Newcastle are sweating on the availability of Moussa Sissoko ahead of the weekend trip to Old Trafford. The midfielder came off in the loss to Swansea last week with a groin complaint and hopes to recover in time to be involved against Man United. Elsewhere Siem de Jong has returned to training for the Magpies, while Paul Dummett also joined in with the group as he steps up his recovery.

Leicester welcome back Mark Schwarzer, with the experienced stopper having recovered from illness after missing out last weekend. Christian Fuchs took a knock in training, but it is believed to be nothing serious and Claudio Ranieri expects the defender to train today and be in contention for the weekend.

Marouane Chamakh remains sidelined for Palace despite stepping up his recovery from a hamstring problem with a midweek run out for the reserves. Bakary Sako is set to be included in the squad for the visit of Villa.

Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Everton have picked up no new injuries ahead of the visit of City. Kevin Mirallas is now 100% fit – the Belgian was fielded as a sub last time out after being forced off with an ankle injury in the season opener with Watford.

Bournemouth’s Harry Arter could return to training next week, though manager Eddie Howe conceded he could be “some way off” a first-team comeback.

Ki Sung-yeung has returned to training after stepping up his recovery from a hamstring injury. Garry Monk has confirmed he will make a final decision on the Korean’s fitness after today’s training session.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

Sakho offered new contract and Spurs can't defend.

Williams is a better pick than both IMO.

I am looking for some thoughts on my team. I made my decisions for this week already, but what would you keep an eye on for the next few? who would you be thinking about getting rid of, and who would you want in?

    Rutland

    Ivanovic, Cedric, Huth, Francis, Coates

    Hazard, Mahrez, Payet, Chadli, Ibe

    Pelle, Sergio, Wilson

1.7 in the bank, 3 transfers done this week for a -4. total score 54 so far.

Take out Westwood/Surnam and replace with Andreu (4.4)....Wanyama is edging towards a fall.

    Payet and Gomis
    or
Ayew and Sakho....and 1.0 left in the bank

The 1.0 would be used to upgrade McCarthy and Targett to more nailed on 4.5's

    On WC

It's the way i'm leaning right now. Butland is my other keeper, and if Targett loses his place it won't cause an immediate disaster. Can't shake the feeling that maybe i'm being mad not sharing the funds around a bit more.

    Schmeichel
    Kos Cedric Richards
    Hazard Özil Mané Milner
    Aguero (C) Kane Wilson
    Hennessey Wanyama Francis Saylor
Who would you lose first? Currently thinking Milner(or/and Kane) but have 0 ft so will probably not take hits for now.

Looking at Swansea midfield options, I'm starting to think that Shelvey may be the best pick available. Or at least the best value pick. Anyone leaning towards the same as me?

    1. Puyol Pants Up
      • 11 Years
      10 years, 5 months ago

Shelvey is okay, but with Siggy, Ayew, Montero, Gomis in the team he may not be getting many points.

      1. preseasonblues
        • 16 Years
        10 years, 5 months ago

That was my initial hypothesis, but looking into the stats so far (I know, I know - small sample size) Shelvey seems to come out on top against the other options. Arguably with all the other options able to deliver Shelvey will pick up his fair share of points too as there'll be far more created.

That's what I'm starting to think. Add in not shy of a long shot, think he'll end up in the high single digit goals. Think he's someone I could just stick in and not have to think about.

If Benzema is sold by Madrid, then they wouldn't have a single registered striker in the squad. I can't see Benitez wanting to go into the season with just Ronaldo and Jese at striker cover, and Madrid haven't been linked with any strikers at all all summer, and just spent €35m on Kovacic, a CM.

I really don't see it happening. Benzema would start for any team in the world with the only potential exceptions being Bayern and Barca, and he'd probably get a game there too, why would he want to join Arsenal?

Too many conclusions being drawn from Arsene liking French players, Ozil making the same move last year, and Arsenal "needing" a striker.

Maybe it does happen, against all the odds, but then surely Madrid will need to quickly get in a replacement striker? There aren't too many of those on the market anymore, certainly not at Benzema's level.

Yeah but not when they're coming up against Barca, Atleti, Sevilla, et al.

Barca have two of the best strikers in the world, I can't see Madrid only going with a converted winger as backup for Ronaldo, and then who would play on the left, Isco? Cheryshev? I really don't see Benitez going with that thin a squad.

Apparently they've secured Reus and once he is unveiled Arsenal will be able to announce Benzema. A lot of sources saying Tuesday/Wednesday so guess we will have to wait and see.

A lot of betting sites have slashed his odds and quite are few are even odds-on.

Maybe if Reus is on his way, but I doubt it personally. People in the know (Balague, Hunter, Gibson) are saying it looks very unlikely.

There's a source on twitter who has been very accurate with recent signings (Pedro to Chelsea/Ottamendi to City) who's claiming this along with a few others.

Personally I do think it will happen although as you have said it is strange that Madrid are letting him go.

Where would you spend 1.1m? Or would you leave some ITB?

Butland, McCarthy (I know some would spend 0.5 here for a start)
Kolarov, Darmian, Williams, 4.5x2 (Francis post-drop(?) and maybe Huth (rotate with Williams))
    Sanchez, Silva, Payet, Mahrez, Westwood
    Aguero, Gomis, Diouf

    Cheers!

I'd be tempted to do Kolarov -> Kompany just for the security of starts.

Lucy, saw you discussing Twitter earlier - what's your handle?

I'd either get Myhill for McCarthy, Kompany for Kolarov or just bank the money.

It is kinda tempting... but then I've got serious doubts about Man Utd's ability to score goals. And West Ham's home fixtures are nice.

We have the same team pretty much.

Part of my 1.1 went on a 2nd keeper - got burnt last year, it's not happening again.

It's left me with .6 ITB

I toyed with Kolorov > Azpi with the remaining .6

Would give me .1 for any rises..

They will be challenging for the title so can't afford to be.
We seem to have written them off completely - I think that's a mistake on our part.

            They will come good

I haven't made the change yet tho..

I'm not a fan of Darmian due to poor fixtures, but I'm sure you're set on him.

I fancy Fancis/Watford like Nyom, tbh. Both defences look good, statistics wise too, especially Watford. I'm a little worried about Leicester's defensive capabilities given their attacking approach this season.

1.1m could be spent on Payet--->Depay like Champ said, or you could try Butland--->Fabianski.

    Guzan
