As we’ve discussed previously, our approach to the weekly games is slightly different this year. Armed with an opening pot of £100 for each game, I’ve been tasked with turning that cash into profit and will be updating you on my progress every Friday.

Gameweek 2 was a rewarding week for strikers in PlayON, with four forwards scoring over 2000 points – with Romelu Lukaku leading the way on 2945 points. Only Riyad Mahrez scored similar, with 2360 points from midfield emphasising the importance of getting those front two spots filled with the right players each week.

Christian Benteke also notched over 2000 points but, along with Lukaku, has a tougher fixture this week as they face Arsenal and Manchester City respectively. Sergio Aguero and Stoke’s Mame Diouf were the other two big scorers last weekend and could be the ones to back again ahead of trips to Everton and Norwich respectively.

For the upcoming weekend, as mentioned in the Weekly Shop article I’m predominantly including Manchester United, West Ham and Crystal Palace assets further back in the teams with various combinations from those defences that look to have a potential clean sheet coming up. In midfield I’ve picked the likes of Juan Mata, Dimitri Payet and Yohan Cabaye, all of whom could build on decent PlayON scores last week.

The Bottom Line

A second week without results in PlayON, managing only mid-table finishes in the free entry and the £1.10 contests. I did at least win something, a wonderful £0.05 arriving back in the pot from a 28th place finish out of the 819 entries for the Monday Night freeroll.

Gameweek 1 Stake – £3.10
Winnings – £0.05
Current Pot – £82.90

This Week’s Stake

After an unfavourable start to the season, I’m focusing on low fee contests and free games as I work to build my pot back up.

Weekly – I’ve entered the maximum possible five teams for the £100 freeroll pot, which covers all ten of the rounds fixtures. I’ve also entered two teams for £1.10 apiece into the £100 guaranteed game and taken up a challenge against OptaJoe for another £1.10. I will also check near the deadline if there are any £0.27 and £0.55 games near to being filled and if so put a few teams into those.

Daily – Five entries go into each of the £25 free pot games that are available for Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Total Stake: £3.30
As a PlayON Pro it’s possible for you to challenge me one-on-one in all four timeframes, these games are not included in the £100 challenge and operate separately. You can also take on other PlayON Pros, current FPL champion Simon March and OptaJoe.

Depay is a good punt this weekend. its an either or really. Man united should do more come the end of the seaon than Swansea. but who know eh.

Indeed there is always the case for one or two players but

mahrez, ayew, gomis, yaya, silva, payet, barkley, kompany, kolarov, romero ....

these players have delivered something in both games.

If you asked a bookie what odds that these players will have involvement with goals/assists 3 weeks in a row you'd get very long odds

Fair point but it's not unreasonable to expect one or two of those could be this year's season-long bandwagons. Just a matter of hoping you've got the right ones.

  8. Piggs Boson

This is probably the heaviest I've gone in defence since the Baines era...

    Butt-Hill
    Darmian - Kolarov - Williams - Gomez - Francis
Sanchez - Yaya Toure - Ayew - Mahrez - WW
    Aguero - HurriKane - Gomis

Finally some defenders worth their weight in gold. Swansea look incredible at the moment, so I've gone for a triple up. Kane is my punt and provides a route to Costa, when Chelsea find their form.

    Anyone else going triple Swans?

    1. Taffer
      • 12 Years
      10 years, 4 months ago

Not keen on their fixtures after Sunderland. Remember half their time on the pitch so far has been vs. 10 men - which is going to make any defence look incredible - particularly a team who keep the ball well like Swansea.

I assume this is a WC team? Looks good.

Double Swans looks probable for me (Ayew + Gomis), probably this GW only though.

Kane doesn't look match fit either - had him for the first two weeks and got rid on the WC.

      1. Piggs Boson
        • 14 Years
        10 years, 4 months ago

        I think he was fit.

        Poch:

“Maybe my explanation [on Saturday] was bad. I think he took a kick on his calf, and after was a little bit sore - like a cramp.

“And why take a risk at 2-0? That was not the reason we conceded the draw after. [You] don’t take a risk when a player feels a little bit of pain in his calf.”

Spurs are making a few attacking signings so Chadli would make me uneasy tbh.

And Eriksen is very expensive. I was burnt by him last season so I'm not a fan of his at the moment 🙂

Anyone else think playing Richards might be a better bet than a Southampton defender this week?

I know Palace are an attacking side, but I've liked the look of Villa's defence recently, and Southampton are looking shocking at the back so far this season.

Big shock. Thank goodness we had a whole hot topic on the Kompany conundrum.

      Hmm. Did they need him?

Or a case of sign so others won't?

I think he's a good signing, especially if Kompany shows poor form again. Looks like Demichelis will be sold on.

Wouldn't say he was a priority transfer for them, but still feels like a great addition, if that makes sense.

Yaya and Sanchez, as you could easily captain Alexis.

Unless you have another big captaincy option like Aguero or Hazard?

Yaya and Sanchez. While I don't think he will, Yaya has the potential to match Silva's output; there's no way Ozil will match Sanchez.

Yaya and Sanchez, its basicly goals vs assists and goals will get you more points

    REPOST:

Would anyone go for these moves, currently on WC?

Kolarov > Darmain > Kompany + Williams (Kola rotation risk and Darmain's poor fixtures)

Gomis or Benteke > Diouf (free up funds)

Silva > Yaya (free up funds)

    Current squad:

    McCarthy

    Darmain Kolarov Huth

    Silva Sanchez Payet Mahrez

    Gomis Kun Benteke

    subs: Myhill Richards Anya Saylor

Thoughts on Ben Davies at 4.5 - nailed or not?

Been asked a few times, seems unlikely, Rose first choice when fit

Would be great option if Rose leaves, but with Rose around 'm not even considering Davies

Asked this question yesterday but I'm still torn:

    A) Yaya, Mahrez (as 5th mid)
    B) Silva, Anya (4.5m)

    Thanks

    Last season Kane scored 4 goals against Leicester (Hattrick(H) + 1 goal(A)) . Just saying 😉

Kane is the one wildcard disappearance from my team that I somewhat regret. 😕

But there isn't s striker in my current squad I'd switch him for either really.

As a Leicester fan, I've just brought in Kane with my WC. He'll score against us...probably more than once.

I'm also on the Kane train. I had him before my WC and I still think he's one of the most explosive forwards (other than Kun).

That being said, I'm also deciding if Sanchez will be worth having over one of the other Arsenal players if I'm never going to move the C off Kun.
