Liverpool chalk up a third straight clean sheet after emerging from the Emirates with a goalless draw. Arsenal fail to score at home yet again, with Petr Cech keeping the Merseysiders at bay with a string of vital first-half stops.

Arsenal Stutter at Home Again

Despite boasting nearly two-thirds of the possession (66%) and fashioning 19 shots at goal, the Gunners were unable to breach Liverpool’s unyielding rearguard. Astonishingly, the north London club have now drawn blanks in five of their last six matches at the Emirates across all competitions, which might encourage Arsene Wenger to switch things up for their next home encounter.

In light of Per Mertesacker (illness) and Laurent Koscielny sitting out this encounter, Gabriel and Callum Chambers were drafted into central defence. The former was the only member of Arsenal’s back five not to receive a single bonus point, with Petr Cech claiming the maximum three – the former Chelsea shot-stopper amassed 11 points in all, having rebuffed the Reds’ attacks with eight saves.

Alexis Sanchez’s came close to breaking the deadlock when he clattered the upright from close range following a well-worked move, while Aaron Ramsey’s 6% ownership were miffed to witness his goal wrongly disallowed for offside. Both players will fancy their chances of gracing the scoresheet soon, though, given that they face a trip to Newcastle United and home tie against Stoke City in the next two Gameweeks.

Reds Rearguard Holds Steady

Liverpool continued their unbeaten start to the season after carding a third successive clean sheet. Joe Gomez (4.7) turned out a performance that belied his years, quelling the hosts’ threat down their right flank by virtue of his excellent positioning and impressive recovery speed. On last night’s showing, the ex-Charlton defender looks likely to retain his starting role in the left-back berth ahead of Alberto Moreno, rendering him the most valuable route into the Merseysiders’ defence. Three favourable home ties in the next four Gameweeks (WHU, NOR, AVL) only serve to strengthen his claim for inclusion.

Philippe Coutinho (8.1) fired a rasping strike onto the underside of the crossbar in the early exchanges, before forcing a superb fingertip-save out of Cech minutes before the break. No midfielder has attempted more shots than the Brazil international this term (15), which certainly bodes well for a Gameweek 4 clash against a Hammers outfit that shipped four goals last time out and are devoid of Carl Jenkinson and Adrian through suspension.

Christian Benteke (8.5) spurned a golden opportunity to afford Liverpool the lead in the first period but proved effective as the spearhead to their attack. Given that the other candidates around Benteke’s price tag (Harry Kane, Romelu Lukaku and Graziano Pelle) also blanked this Gameweek, his 40% ownership will feel confident ahead of the above-mentioned trio of Anfield showdowns.

We've done well. It's good that we actually have full backs who can defend and protect the CB's. Playing a DM yesterday showed how important they are in any formation. That being said, we've conceded 2 goals which have wrongly been ruled in our favour. I'd still like to see Sakho + a DM on a regular basis, but definitely keep the defence as it is for now. Lots of confidence I'd presume.

What to do here ----> http://imgur.com/2m2x8RP

A.) Bank FT and hope Mane plays and take the 0.1 drop.

B.) Sakho > Diouf and take the 0.1 drop on Mane

    C.) Transfer out Mane

If I do C I'm thinking of getting in Mahrez before he rises. Would then be doubled up on Leicester but I don't think I mind as they have 2 favourable fixtures next.

    Thoughts please guys?

    Bottomed...

    Current team is:

    Courtois (McCarhty)
    Darmian / Kolarov / Gomez / (Ward) / (Richards)
    Sanchez / YYT / Mahrez / Shelvey / (Westwood)
    Aguero / Benteke / Gomis

Midfield is looking weak, but having learned the lesson on Kane last year, I did Payet -> Mahrez after Saturday's matches to beat the rise, so I have 1.9 ITB.

In my main league I am matched up against the strongest team this week and the guy that won last year so it's important I win this of all weeks. Is it worth doing Shelvey to Chadli/Shaqiri for a -4 so I don't have double Swansea attack v Man Utd?

  13. gaz1185
    • 14 Years
    10 years, 3 months ago

    A) Shaw + Mane > Gomez + YYT

    B) Mane + Payet > YYT + Redmond & 1.5 ITB

    C) Mane + Payet > Silva + Redmond & 0.2 ITB

I'm thinking of B as it will give me 1.5 to play with the following GW.

Exactly what I thought when I got him in last week. He is looking very promising. But bringing him does involve a risk of him being rotated once or twice due to his young age I guess. His price is now similar to Lovren's which I would also consider.

      1. nad
        • 10 Years
        10 years, 3 months ago

Sounds about right to me; one v bad performance could see him out the side.

With his recent performances and his u21 call up his confidence must be sky high though, so I can't see a drop in form at all - worth the risk over Lovren imo.

Not having the best start, sat on 108 points pretty far down most of my mini leagues. Most embarrassing is I'm currently losing to my 13 year old sister by a solid 20 points.

Next week's team doesn't look too bad, some solid home fixtures?

    Pantilimon
    Francis Richards Cedric
    Hendo Sanchez Hazard Mahrez Ritchie
    Aguero Pelle

    Hennesey Sakho Martin Oxford
    1FT 0.0 in bank.

The squad as a whole; Defense is inconsistent, goalies shite, Hendo injured, rumours of Sakho injury. Pelle and Cedric dropping in price + Europa. Panti dropping in price. Hennessey doesn't play

    A) Sakho > Diouf
    B) Pelle > Diouf
    C) Pelle > Gomis
    D) Hendo + Pelle > Redmond + Benteke (-4pt)
    E) Wildcard
    F) None of the above

    Thoughts?

I hate hitting for defenders but considering there is a chance Mertesacker won't play with his injury/illness and Gabriel's good performance last night, the hit would only be -2. I'd do it.

Plus, Lamela ain't really that bad. Spurs bought a bunch of excellent players and failed to make anything out of them, ending up selling them for a reduced price soon after. Problems are in management, I fear, despite my appreciation of Poche.

Ah no I do agree he's an excellent player but there have been many who failed to transition will in recent years. I'm in agreement with Lamela, I don't think he'd be as good as at Roma, but he's a better player than Tottenham allow him to be.

heard good things about him, but he was just ok when I saw him for Roma against Feyenoord last year

Has broken from a few places in the last 12 hours. Villa might be selling Kozak to Celtic and using some of the money towards it.

Um, some of the money? Sure Ljajic will cost them more than what they get from Kozak.

The chance that they have is that he has somehow not really settled at Roma. He is a bit part player there, subbed in or out about every time he plays, and that's not even nearly every match of the season.

Aye, not to mention the ludicrous TV deal for the PL which probably has even Villa able to offer him a bump in wages. It'd be quite the coup.

What would you do here guys?

    Currently have:

Sanchez - Silva - Mahrez - Ayew (Westwood)

    Aguero - Kane - Diof

i am thinking of taking a -4 hit doing Kane and Ayew to Costa and Redmond.

    Yes or no? And why?

    Cheers!

Really? Doesn't Özil divide opinion always? Because he looks so lazy that half the people think he actually does nothing.

He does but after an Arsenal match one can see a post on here claiming him utterly useless followed immediately by one hailing him for being a bastion of brilliance 😛

He would be unanimously loved in almost any other country in the world, but I suppose he doesn't get stuck in enough or run around aimlessly giving 110% enough for playing in England.

I think part of the issue is expectations as well though. He's not some Ronaldo who wants to glide by defenders.
