It’s Jonty’s time to curry sympathy this week and he’s on the receiving end of a barrage of cyber-bullying from co-host Granville.

Determined to the belittle Jonty’s Wildcard performance following Callum Wilson’s hat-trick, Granville takes to Twitter before roasting him live on air on the ScoutCast. He seems to have totally missed the fact that I too sold on Wilson as part of my own Wildcard; I’m quite happy for Jonty to play Patsy on this one.

Jonty rolls with the virtual punches to join us as we look back on the Gameweek that saw all three of us refresh our squads. We score our Wildcards out of ten, before scanning the community for Gameweek tales in “Rough with the Smooth”.

We then take on your questions, as we assess Pedro’s pedigree, the lure of Aleks Kolarov and the merits of a well-rounded squad in the light of the FPL chips.

This ScoutCast was first broadcast live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday. Be sure to subscribe to our channel for news of upcoming live Casts. You can view the broadcast in full via the larger player below but, if you prefer the edited audio version, you’ll need this link or the smaller player.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

umm, get a 3 way 4.5 rotation going + Skrtel + Kolarov. then use the funds to upgrade McCarthy 🙂

Skrtel is in for more boners it seems.

for a 3 way rotation you can pretty much choose any 3 teams and they'll rotate just fine.

How much is £0.1 worth and is it worth a 4 point hit to save £0.1?

Let's look at it this way; suppose you start the season with £101m instead of 100, I reckon you'd expect to get about 0.5 points more per week than someone who only has a 100 budget. I think this is a conservative estimate. So roughly speaking an extra million is worth about 15-20 points over a season. Therefore I'd suggest a transfer which saves you £0.1 is ultimately worth about 2 points at this stage of the season purely from the money you saved. One way of looking at it is, if you save 0.1 you get 50% off the hit and if you save 0.2 it promises to pay for itself over the season.

I'm in a situation where I have Mane and I'm kicking myself that I didn't take him out last night for Yaya Toure for -4. The money saved goes half the way the justify the hit and I'd anticipate Yaya will get at least 2 more than Mane over the next few weeks. I wanted to see what happened in the Saints game tonight but I am really not confident about Mane's chances of a redeeming haul this weekend. The lure of Norwich at home was too big in my mind.

There's also the likelihood that the gap between the player going down and the player going up will widen, with £0.1 becoming £0.2+. It doesn't always work like that of course but it's not hard to imagine the player going up continuing to be a popular incoming transfer, given his points on the board and the other continuing down as the good fixtures ebb away and doubts about additional Europa league games, injury and transfer speculation. Managers will want rid, believing they can always get him back should his form return, while their pot grows in the meantime. I'd suggest its worth 3 points to me but I may be adopting a different strategy to you. Some covet long-term points, others the bank above all else.

The only thing nagging in my mind was the chance that I would wildcard after gw4 and it became harder to justify the hit if for only one game and to save 0.1 (as it looks to me like Yaya won't rise again before the deadline.)

Still undecided on Sanchez for the weekend in my wildcard. Toon were solid last week, Arsenal lacklustre. But Alexis has had so many shots he has to score soon surely?? However I have to sacrifice Memphis who I've had from the start or Yaya. Yaya has the best fixture, not sure Sanchez has much chance of more points than Memphis?

    Basically it comes down to;

    Alexis + Gomis 0.4m ITB

    Or

    Memphis + Benteke 1.6m ITB

    Tough!!

I expected to see worse after your opening line. It's not bad. But I think you really paint yourself into a corner if other players emerge. For example United sign someone big, or City De Bruyne (and he explodes), even a mid price assest, you'd be pretty limited with your transfers due to such disparity between player values in your squad.

It's true. I suppose a suitable compromise is to build a squad like this, but with players that have an easy "out". Such as Hazard > Pedro, Sanchez > Ozil/Ramsey/Cazorla.

Oh I love a cheap defence myself. Although (so far - admittedly only 3 GWs) a little more invested in defence this year might pay off, with more bonus points being awarded back there.

On the two cheap forwards - great whilst it works. But if Wilson gets injured/stops scoring (bearing in mind only 1 week ago many were transferring him out) you may have another problem in finding a replacement.

I got rid of him just in time last night but Mane can still come good. Sounds like he'll be fit to start against Norwich.

I am on -8 as well. It was part of a 3 way trade which a lot of cash being redistributed into different positions. Going for the Pedro punt here.

If i got rid this week it would have been for a hit, hence why I am holding. Seems unnecessary to sell before norwich at home too.

How do price rises and falls work when on WC? Can you chase the risers and drop the fallers each day?

Posted some ramblings about how to maximise your team value during a wildcard and the importance of doing so this season... hope this helps.

Just after looking at Champions league draws. Not too bad for United at all I must say, couldn't have hoped for much better. Still not a given the state we're in ATM, but should easily get out of the group

A mate once told me the draws are "fixed". Any truth in this? Didn't get to ask him how they do it. Not hard to believe though

I'm not sure what you're trying to say but basically UEFA want to try and keep the big teams in the competition for as long as possible

Why is everyone saying City got the group of death?

It is a tough group, of course, but every team in the group is beatable, and I strongly think we're the best team in the group. I don't think many teams wanted to draw us, either. Juventus will be tough, but they're no Bayern or Real, especially without Tevez and Pirlo and (maybe) Pogba. It's an aging team. Monchengladbach are having a poor start to the season, and they shouldn't be too tough anyway. Sevilla is always a handful, but surely we can handle it.

If you're the best in the group of death, what's the problem? I'd like to see what you guys think though.

I agree with all of what you've said really. It's just considering City's recent history in the competition, it is a very tough group if you get where I'm coming from. However I really do believe that they'll finally be that little bit more solid in Europe this year.

As a United fan, it will be very intriguing to see how we can readjust to Europe again, and if we're up for it so to speak.

We always get a tough group and we somehow manage to get out most of the time. I honestly think this is easier than what we've got before, but not by much.

United don't have the easiest group either, same with Arsenal. Chelsea always get lucky, but that luck will be found out later.

If anything, it's better to have more challenges in group stage and fight those out than to cruise through weak teams and then get stunned by top teams.

I'm not sure Juventus is that much of an ageing team when you just named two of their oldest players in the "players they're without" list.

I think City's form in England doesn't translate into Europe, for whatever reason. I would like to agree that they are the best team in the group, but I'm not sure.

      Suppose we'll find out!
