It’s Jonty’s time to curry sympathy this week and he’s on the receiving end of a barrage of cyber-bullying from co-host Granville.

Determined to the belittle Jonty’s Wildcard performance following Callum Wilson’s hat-trick, Granville takes to Twitter before roasting him live on air on the ScoutCast. He seems to have totally missed the fact that I too sold on Wilson as part of my own Wildcard; I’m quite happy for Jonty to play Patsy on this one.

Jonty rolls with the virtual punches to join us as we look back on the Gameweek that saw all three of us refresh our squads. We score our Wildcards out of ten, before scanning the community for Gameweek tales in “Rough with the Smooth”.

We then take on your questions, as we assess Pedro’s pedigree, the lure of Aleks Kolarov and the merits of a well-rounded squad in the light of the FPL chips.

This ScoutCast was first broadcast live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday. Be sure to subscribe to our channel for news of upcoming live Casts. You can view the broadcast in full via the larger player below but, if you prefer the edited audio version, you’ll need this link or the smaller player.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

After many many drafts, here is my WC team, thoughts?:

    Butland, McCarthy
    Kolarov, Gomez, Muniesa, Francis, Targett
    Hazard, Silva, Sanchez, Mahrez, Westwood
    Aguero, Diouf, Wilson

Defense is a bit light and left with two people you won't play in Targett and Westwood when Bertrand gets back. Maybe downgrade Haz to Pedro and upgrade the defense a bit

I would make a swap Hazard - Costa and Diouf - someone for 7 mil (Chadli, Shaq or Ayew)

plus defence is too much risk rotation.

Looks almost exactly like my GW 3 WC team. Biggest difference is that I went for Deeney instead of Wilson 🙁

Agree that defence is light but it allows me to have Silva over Yaya. Which I think could bring in many points!

My only worry is that Gomez will lose his place then ill have 3 playing defenders

Downgrade Haz to Fab, Pedro or 9-10M big mid and upgrade Muniesa so you have 3 strong Defs

Not sure about Diouf. Maybe Haz to Shaquiri And Diouf to Costa

I jusy cant bring myself to drop Hazard. He is the second best player in the league and when on form is one of the only consistent players in the leagur

Yeah, but a lot of money for no returns (so far). He was a steady high returner for FPL rather than explosive.

Id ship but keep an easy 2 transfer path back. I'd rather regret not having him for 1 game week when he (and Chelsea) find form than regret having him for 5 weeks when he blanks. Though it could be this week.....Pedro may be the trigger for him

Exactly.. when on form.. His stats say that he is far from form you want him to be. I also think that Pedro is going to take some Hazard points and he worked really well with Costa.

I have Hazard myself but I'm not doing WC yet. If I do I would prefer Costa now than Hazard.

11.5 mil it is a lot for the midfilder who barely gave a shot on target. Counting for pennys is not worth the money

Swansea are 5/2 against for a cleanie. ManU are 13/8 against. So chances are you do not get a cleanie out of either one. Chances are you don't get points out of Pyet either, but he has a lot more upside, so I will be playing him.

Btw, William Hill has Payet 16/5 to score a goal, so his chances are slimmer but, again, upside.

Though choice, I can actually see all your other defenders getting a CS next GW, so Payet could be just a two pointer. I'd maybe even risk it with C

He will start considering Hendo is out. Lucas is LFC's most experienced DM. If the illeremendi deal went through and Henderson wasn't injured, he would have left the club.

    Some ramblings on team value.

Last year having significantly greater team value was less useful as players like Harry Kane gave managers a cheap captaincy option, while the most expensive fantasy assets (Aguero and Costa) were frequently injured. This year transfer value looks to be more important again. Firstly there is no ultra-cheap captaincy option playing for a top five team while the introduction of the bench boost chip may reward those who can afford to invest more in their bench players during the second half of the season.

I must say that although the price rises seem to be quicker again this year than last, they're still nowhere near the rate of 2-3 seasons ago. This makes bringing in players due to rise in price much less profitable over a wildcard week, as very few rise by the 0.2 necessary for managers to sell and make a profit on them during a wildcard.

For example this week only Mahrez has risen by 0.2 so far, a player that really most managers will want to keep long-term. A few seasons ago I remember several players rising by 0.2 in the first half of a week, allowing managers to sell them against for 0.1 profit and reinvest in other players for the second half of the week (to try and get another 0.2 rise). Finally at the very end of the week I could invest in players that I actually wanted. This just doesn't seem feasible this year.

Since increasing the value of your team is still harder than it has been previously, what seems most important is avoiding the price drops (which also seem to be happening with a far greater frequency). So far this season around 240 players have dropped in price by 0.1 or greater, whereas only 26 have risen in price. Avoiding owning players that drop in price should allow managers to maximise your team value during the second half of the season and make the most of the bench boost chip.

Yup,I'm with you. I have made a lot of decisions so far this season to avoid drops, and I have no regrets. Not sure any of those decisions have cost me points, but if they did I'd be OK because I think they will earn points in the long run. And I agree that drops appear, at the moment, more important than rises.

You can during a wildcard week. But I agree outside of that compromise is necessary, for example this week (a non-wildcard week for me) I have kept Hazard despite his 0.1 drop in value. I decided this was the best course of action because I think he will score well against Palace and so it's not worth the -4 hit.

Reading back through my waffle the grammar is terrible, sorry for that I'm half-asleeo!

Agree. Even small hits now to avoid drops and get risers puts you in good stead for a solid team moving on through the game ranks.

Know when to buy and sell is equally important part of the game.

I actually read these long posts, and I think you're spot on. My main focus is to avoid going down with droppers because, as you say, they seem to happen very frequently. Look at Walcott already being down to 8.6 and fast approaching 8.5. So many quality players have also taken a drop due to a few blanks. Hazard, Rooney, Fabregas, Ramsey, Cazorla, Mane - all dropped.

I, as many others, was forced into wildcarding to avoid going down with too many droppers. 13/15 out of my current players has either risen or got a positive transfer trend. Only Depay and Huth are on a negative trend, but they both were before I bought them. If Depay blanks this week then I definately have to sell as he'll be a guaranteed dropper over the two weeks before GW5. If Huth doesn't manage a CS (or the odd goal) in the next two games then I'd want to get rid of him before his inevitable price drop aswell, but I might have bigger fish to fry.

Thanks guys. On realising how poorly written this was I've taken the liberty to expand it and resubmit as a community article during my lunch break today (which is what I should have probably just done in the first place)! Hopefully the improved article will go down well.

Cover is over-rated. Every reason to believe that Yaya will score more than any Arsenal mid this weekend and going forward. Cover would be necessary Arsenal mids were going crazy, but they're not.

It would be a similar case to Hazzy/Pedro all be it 1 mil less...

KDB might come in at 10 but if Pedro was 9.5, and Sterling 9, 9.5 would make sense.

He will most likely play right cam

IMO he could be a boost to Silva's prospects. Another target Silva could assist to when he cuts inside from the flank, and on the other hand a perfect receiver for Kevin's backpasses when Aguero is heavily marked inside the box.

They're an alright team, I remember Reid used to play for them. Still, it doesn't make Southampton look particularly competent right now.

Not been his biggest fan before but I'd like to own Coutinho for his next 4 fixtures. Have exact money to do Payet out for him but it seems a bit silly for now.

Reckon how owners will do well in the short term
