It’s Jonty’s time to curry sympathy this week and he’s on the receiving end of a barrage of cyber-bullying from co-host Granville.

Determined to the belittle Jonty’s Wildcard performance following Callum Wilson’s hat-trick, Granville takes to Twitter before roasting him live on air on the ScoutCast. He seems to have totally missed the fact that I too sold on Wilson as part of my own Wildcard; I’m quite happy for Jonty to play Patsy on this one.

Jonty rolls with the virtual punches to join us as we look back on the Gameweek that saw all three of us refresh our squads. We score our Wildcards out of ten, before scanning the community for Gameweek tales in “Rough with the Smooth”.

We then take on your questions, as we assess Pedro’s pedigree, the lure of Aleks Kolarov and the merits of a well-rounded squad in the light of the FPL chips.

This ScoutCast was first broadcast live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday. Be sure to subscribe to our channel for news of upcoming live Casts. You can view the broadcast in full via the larger player below but, if you prefer the edited audio version, you’ll need this link or the smaller player.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Kolorov vs Sterling for points in the next 5 weeks?

Is lovren nailed on for the next few weeks?

These are my only two questions to shape my WC.

My biggest problem is Sterling + 2x4.5 or Ayew + Kolorov and Lovren. This puts a spanner in the works haha

In that case I would rather the Ayew grouping.

I think Lovren is fine until Liverpool start shipping loads of goals.

I just brought in Kolarov myself, but I have a sneaky feeling about Sterling outscoring the likes of Yaya and Silva

if one already has three city (ie Silva, Kolarov, Aguero) i can see captaining a Sanchez or Benteke being a decent choice given that if he (Kun) still does hit it won't murder your ranking and if city struggle, you'll do better than good portion of players. mitigates da risk a bit

I don't know much about Nyom but his stats look good.
Whether he's as good at getting BPs as Cathcart remains to be seen but Cathcart is flying under the radar at the moment.

They don't rotate too well in terms of fixture difficulty though.
It's problematic since Schm and Butland do, although having said that then they can't keep a clean sheet for the life of them.

Wolfsburg to come 2nd ahead of PSV, Munchengladbach to come 3rd in group of death. Cant see much else happening. Chelsea to come second in their group because they rested too many players for the league would be funny.

The point is, how many people are buying McCarthy on a FT? Most are doing so on a wildcard, as it's not an important enough transfer to waste an FT on. That's why he's not rising

I have no dog in this fight, but I am amazed at how wildly wrong these sites are. Defoe shows as not only not the most likely to rise, but he is rising at the slowest rate among those who are close. What I'm saying is that neither preponderance nor accelleration make Defoe the most likely. The sites must just be very far off on what they are showing.

Since the FPL hid key data last season, I think the price comparison sites (well, FPLStatistics and FantasyFootballFix at any rate) are having to estimate the number of effective transfers in and out. They can discount a percentage of transfers to account for moves made by players on a wildcard in a particular gameweek, but this is likely to be applied on a blanket basis.

Players like Alex McCarthy, who you may well buy on a wildcard but not buy if you are using free transfers and have more pressing issues elsewhere, probably need to be discounted to a far greater degree because of wildcard transfers, but how can the sites know which players this sort of adjustment should apply to without having access to the raw FPL data?

Once the international break is over and players have risen or dropped in price once more, they will probably be a lot more accurate until the next wave of wildcards hits in the second half of the season. I think the two price comparison sites I mentioned do a pretty good job given the uncertain data available to them - but they are only useful guides, not cast iron guarantees.

              10 years, 5 months ago

Do either site look back at fpl players transfer history at gameweek deadline to count actual transfers on WCs, I feel like this could retro-actively re-align many players who are constantly over 100% like McCarthy

I expect they do Balders, but that still won't tell them which players were moved on wildcards. All it does is confirm the percentage of wildcards played the previous week.

                  10 years, 5 months ago

If they go into individual players transfer history, you get the transfer timestamps and the wildcard timestamp. Maybe a lot of effort but could really be worth it to improve accuracy.

Check this person in a mini league of mine as an example:

Good point Balders. I'm no expert at scraping data from websites so I don't know how feasible that would be. Smarty Pants seems to know a way to produce his data for FPL Discovery, but I don't know whether it would be as easy to find, scrape and analyze the data from 10,000 team transfer pages to get a working sample. Maybe FFF already does it, who knows? But FPLS seems to be using volunteer submissions.

Well said mate. A lot of people are missing the impact of wildcards on the prediction sites' ability to gauge price rises. McCarthy is probably almost exclusively being bought as a WC purchase, so unlikely to rise.

The wildcards are messing with their calculations at the minute. If you want a player and they move over 90 per cent, I wouldn't take the risk of waiting if you want to get in before the rise.

The early season wildcards are making it very difficult for the sites to accurately predict, as they've no idea which transfers are on a WC and which aren't. They're probably guesstimating based on expected WC usage, but they're a little in the dark at the moment. They will settle down and become more accurate

Ulloa joins Walcott on total drop of -0.4.

Kramaric closely follows his partner in crime on the Leicester bench to -0.3

While Fabregas, Ox, Almafitano, Lennon, Markovic, Gouffran and Aarons all reach -0.2 making that 40 players total at -0.2 or greater

      • 12 Years
      10 years, 5 months ago

There is now one defender, Tuner, at 3.9m

There are also now 23 midfielders at 4.4m

      11 of these have points.

Only 3 have points in every game: Bentaleb, Gosling and Cattermole.

Cattermole has the most minutes with two full 90s and 29 minutes off the bench.

There are now 6 strikers at 4.4m, with Hepburn-Murphy and Samaras the latest additions. None have any points.

Think Stoke will keep a fair share of cleanies at home and he'll rack in those save points. There's always that one or two 4.5s that scores more than the premiums, and I'd back Butland to have a good chance of being that 4.5.

        Or Kdb over yaya 😉

Keeping yaya for the time being and I would love Silva, but Yaya is a cash cow and I'm curious about KDB/Silva myself so fr now, he will do.

If Silva/Kdb do take off, I can swap Gomis > WIlson and Yaya to Silva

The .1 was down to Shaw vs Darmian, now that I have the .1, I'm not sure do I really want Darmian over Shaw!

There are so many bad looking squads in the top 50. Feeling more optimistic about having 147 pts now. Roll on gw4!...

163 feels reasonable too. My team was bad (I had Rooney, Sakho (the liverpool Sakho!) and no-points-sterling)

What's the substitution order these bench warmers?

    1) Adam - 1minute appearance likely but can score
    2) Anya - Can play 90 minutes for a max of 2 points against City.
