Following a Gameweek littered with knocks and niggles, we roll out our usual post-match club-by-club report on the fresh arrivals in the treatment room.

We find Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe with plenty to concern him, whilst Claudio Ranieri plays down the back problem that forced Riyad Mahrez off against the Cherries.

Arsenal
Mesut Ozil missed the Gunners 1-0 win at Newcastle with a minor knee problem. Prior to the match, Arsene Wenger confirmed he expects the German back imminently:

“It’s a slight injury but he is not available to play. He will be out for one week”

Aston Villa
Jack Grealish missed Villa’s home draw with Sunderland after injuring an ankle in training on Friday, while club skipper Gabby Agbonlahor was also ruled out through illness after the club had been hit by a widespread virus.

Post-match, Tim Sherwood brought us this on the Grealish injury….

“Jack twisted his ankle. There was no-one near him. He caught his toe in the turf on Friday. He went over on it. He was sick, gutted. We don’t know how bad it is. We’re hoping it’s just a sprain and the international break might give him an opportunity to be ready for the Leicester game.”

While he also updated us on Agbonlahor’s situation…

“Gabby is not well. He’s had the stomach bug. I think there’s six or seven at the club who have suffered. Gabby was one.”

Adama Traore was also ruled out against the Black Cats having made his debut from the bench at Palace in Gameweek 3. Sherwood was optimistic on his return after the international break…

“Adama is feeling a kick. He got a kick on the back of the calf and obviously rolled his ankle at the same time. The good news is that the ankle is okay. It’s just about the soreness of the kick – and it was too sore for him to take part.”

Bournemouth
The Cherries’ treatment room got a little bit busier this weekend after three of their players sustained weekend injuries. Tyrone Mings lasted just 11 minutes as a sub before being stretchered off, whilst Max Gradel is also a worry for Eddie Howe:

“We need to assess and scan before making a judgement. Tyrone didn’t look good, seeing him in that much pain, it’s not nice to see. Max knew early it was serious. Knee injuries are not good to see. It restricted us tactically. We couldn’t make changes when we needed to to get momentum back.â€

Left-back Charlie Daniels was forced off with a knee problem at the break, though is optimistic the problem isn’t serious:

“I had an initial scan and it did not look too bad. Hopefully, it will be nothing long-term but we can’t really tell yet, that was just the first look. Once the swelling has gone down, I will probably have another scan on Tuesday to see how it is.”

The Cherries were also without Joshua King due to a hamstring problem.

Everton
The Toffees are set to be without Tom Cleverley for a period of time after the midfielder was stretchered off in yesterday evening’s goalless draw at Spurs. Post-match, Roberto Martinez admitted the club are uncertain how long Cleverley will be sidelined for:

“The physio is a little bit more positive [than he was at half-time]. I think it is clearly ligament damage – but, straight away, we were fearing it could have been ligament damage and a fracture as well. It shows that Tom is a very, very fit man to be able to get through that collision with a [relatively] minor injury. He will still be out for a while but not as long as we first thought he might be – and we thank the luck that we had there.”

Leicester
Claudio Ranieri confirmed that the Foxes in-form Riyad Mahrez was subbed off at the break after sustaining a back problem during yesterday’s clash with Bournemouth. The Leicester boss eased concerns over a serious injury by revealing:

“We changed Riyad at half-time because he took a kick very early in the game and after that, in the battle, he could not play at full speed. I wanted us to keep pressing forward, so we replaced him as a precaution.”

Southampton
Victor Wanyama – who missed the Saints Europa League exit on Thursday evening with a stomach bug – was again absent for today’s win over Norwich. With rumours of a move to Spurs growing, Ronald Koeman revealed the Kenyan was “not mentally and physically good enough to play†against the Canaries.

Stoke
Mark Hughes has confirmed that Glen Johnson was forced off just after the hour mark against West Brom due to a groin problem.

Swansea
Jefferson Montero missed today’s win over United with a minor thigh problem. After the match, Garry Monk eased fears over the extent of the injury:

“Unfortunately Jeff pulled up in training with a bit of soreness in his quad, but he has had scan and it is nothing clinical.”

Tottenham
Spurs are set to assess Moussa Dembele after the Belgian was stretchered off during the goalless draw with Everton with a foot injury.

The player himself has since posted on Twitter offering reassurance on the scale of the problem.

West Brom
James Chester missed the Baggies 1-0 win at rivals Stoke due to a minor hamstring problem. Callum McManaman also suffered from a similar complaint but was fit enough to make an appearance as a second-half sub.

Not necessarily. Depends on Mahrez's fitness. And my ticker, when updated.

To some extent I agree, but compare Liverpool to other teams with 4.5M defenders and surely they're still more likely to keep clean sheets?

Both of those are among the top 4 defences in terms of stats. Is that luck?

I had to watch Everton. That's almost as bad, but 4.5 for one of the 5 best defences so far? I suspect you're in search of the last 0.1 🙂

But I would say that the table actually proves the point. One is likely to get baps for low scoring games and 1 is likely to get assists. Neither of those cases is the most likely Watford defender Prodl.

Don't think he's been terrible. Away games to Stoke and Arsenal are not easy to be fair. Could have done more at home to West Ham, but you can level that at the entire team! He was a real threat against Arsenal and was fouled a few times, denying a opportunity.

I'd give him a little more time. He definitely has hat trick potential, which few strikers do.

Not bothered about doubling, they're both in great form. My bigger concern is Payet has a decent fixture this week and Ayew has Watford (a) who have been solid.

I expect Swansea to score, and probably win but maybe not a white wash (not that he needs that to score well).

I'm going to try and hold off one more week and bank that transfer.

Any fellow Spurs fans see the Everton game? I was shocked, and eventually disgusted that Pochettino lined up poor Mason in what looked like a no. 10 role. No surprise he scuffed his big chances.

Looking at the heat map, we played a 4-3-2-1 formation though.

Terrible is a bit harsh for both Poch and Spurs (should have had 7 more points if looking at the play), but regarding our head coach (not manager, unfortunately), he just showed glimpses of being just another AVB-lookalike Mourinho 4321 wannabe.

What's Mason supposed to do with shots in the box? He's as bad a finisher as Paulinho.... 4 created chances isn't bad though, but I'd rather have a proper attacking player putting away those chances. He was not unlucky, but untalented not to score imo. Poor choice of personnel.

Not a spurs fan, but was surprised by Mason's role. Not sure why Kane dropped so deep at times too. He was almost like a left back sometimes.

Chadli looked very bright though. Sitting on the fence about whether I should get Ayew in for him...but it looks like Chadli will be very involved in any of your attacking points.

Kane's a bit of the classic centre forward you know. Dropping back to link up. He created chances for Chadli and Mason, unfortunately the former didn't fire and the latter doesn't know what to do with them.

Having said that, Kane should have scored 2, but made very poor choices in how he executed the 1-on-1 with Howard and that shot along the ground in the box (have to get it off the ground).

True. Just WC'd myself to sort myself out over international break and hopefully ride some price rises. Gets it out of the way as well.

Not right now, he won't. Tomkins clean sheet? Twice?

Tomkins is really a makeshift RB though isn't he? Any chance Ogbonna gets dropped?

If you have Diouf do you keep?
If you have Benteke do you keep?

Diouf has some great stats and good fixtures after Arsenal.
Apart from ownership I can't think of any other reason for Benteke.

    Ship one for Wilson?

Keep Diouf, get rid of Benteke.

Won't be popular but if I was shipping one it would probably be Benteke.

Diouf is in pretty good form and has decent stats to back it up. The last fixture is a bit of an anomaly given that Stoke were down to 9 men fairly early on.

After watching Liverpool I'm just not sure they're clicking yet and with Coutinho out of the next game I don't expect things to get much better. I know Benteke has 2 decent home fixtures but Liverpool just can't score right now - same as United and Arsenal.

Cheers Andy. That's the one I was leaning towards. Although his ownership does worry me. However you're never going to get anywhere thinking like that. The Coutinho factor is also something to consider.

Try not to worry too much about ownership right now and just play your game. We're only a few gameweeks in so more players than ever will be active right now and the drop off will happen soon.

Take more note of ownership as things start to balance out a bit more if you have a particular rank in mind.

Sound advise. I was thinking general ownership as well as within the MLs. I can't find a single player in either ML who doesn't own him!

As difficult as it is to ignore the players around you, I think that really is sound advise for my mental well-being if nothing else!

Can't be looking around you all the time. You can't own everyone!

    Is it just me....

Surely in an unpredictable lower scoring initial few weeks of the season, the strategy must be to avoid and minimise hits instead of chasing dust clouds yet to settle?

Each hit (-4) is worth roughly 0.3 TV.

i'm taking the other approach. -4 for me GW4...might take another hit in GW5. Losing too much TV. A couple more drops from Hazard and I'd have lost 0.6 already this season.

I did an early wild card. but so far 0 hits.

The GW2 wildcard looks like it was the best time to play it considering the drops and non performance of many GW1 picks and continued performance of GW1 bandwagons.

No. He will not be more than Silva. He will be the same as Pedro. Obvious price. And remember we all said they had priced Pedro too high and nobody would sign him.

10.5 would be a pricing fail. should not exceed 10M.
Even Otamendi should not have exceeded Kompany, 6.0 would have been perfect!
