There’s no doubt that Harry Kane’s emergence last season was one of the more remarkable storylines seen in the Premier League in recent years, with the Tottenham forward scoring 21 goals as Mauricio Pochettino’s side recorded a fifth place finish.

Having failed to register any attacking returns in his four appearances so far this season, though, Kane is struggling to live up to his 9.4 price tag in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), with the striker’s heavy workload over the nine months perhaps to blame. In this ‘Monitor’ article for members, we compare the England man’s underlying statistics from last season to this, and investigate some of the reasons why he may be struggling to hit the heady heights of the previous campaign.

Can't see De Gea compromising his move to Madrid though. If he waits 2 months, yes he makes a bit more cash but he also can move on in January for a teeny tiny fee.

Oh yeah, it's huge. It's just infiltrated much more into the public sphere, whilst FPL's presence is mostly online. That's changing though - FPL seems to be getting bigger every year... Simon March doing pieces for the BBC Sport pages, for example.

Apart from bigging up everything in true American fashion they also love their stats, especially in the NFL. Fantasy football goes hand-in-hand with that.

Have any Americans replied to this question?

      Well, here is one...

NFL fantasy football has been around more or less since the 1990s, and arguably, could go back to the 70s when Strat-o-matic baseball was out, and the evolved to strat-o-matic football. I played strat baseball when I was a kid (some 40+ years ago!), and believe that was the precursor to all fantasy, rotisserie, draft, etc. sports stuff.

As mentioned above, NFL football goes better with fantasy than FPL also due to the fact that there are far more countable stats that are easily observable and social. By nature, non-American football has fewer goals, while American football (and even more so, baseball), has numerous scoring and defensive stats that are just more germane to fantasy. I played fantasy football in the late 1990s, early 2000s, and fantasy baseball and hockey, too.

As another said, we do tend to things bigger in the USA, and have incorporated fantasy NFL into media coverage on TV, blogs, and major newspapers (NY Times even now has fantasy previews). There is also a great, ridiculous TV show, "The League" (final season just started) that centers around the antics of a bunch of loser friends who play fantasy NFL (some of these actors are known -- Mark Duplass, Nick Kroll).

Between tailgating, pubs, etc. the whole real game has now blended with the fantasy game. A lot of this is due to heavy marketing and commercialism, another thing us Americans do really well (greedy we are!).

There you go. One American's fantasy lover's perspective.

P.S. I now play only FPL (year #2), and do not play fantasy NFL anymore. I go with my new preferred sport, which is your version of football (although I still watch my NY Giants each week).

I don't care if Sturridge is back, I'm not going near him again after last season's trolling.

He started a game, then Rodgers says "He's fit to play" before the next game, but then he doesn't start for weeks...

It just makes the other attackers ie Coutinho and Benteke even better picks playing alongside him imo.

Decision to be made on whether to use AOA chip this week:

Is Payet (NEW) better than Huth (AVL) or Targett (whm)?

    Opinions appreciated! Thanks

Who is likely to win this head to head:

    A) Mignolet; Cahill, Mertesacker; Redmond, Mane, Fabregas; Kane

    Selection headache!

    Butland (McCarthy)
    Kolarov naughton darmian (Richards, Oxford)
    Mahrez sanchez silva payet (ayew)
    Wilson Gomis Aguero

Bit of a selection dilemma this week. Any advice? Dropped ayew last GW so don't want that to happen again!

    A) play Ayew over payet and play darmian
    B) play ayew/payet and drop darmian
    C) play all out attack but risk relying on Swansea

      Myhill owner here.

Would't go for a WBA keeper. Even if Lindegaard ends up straight in, he'll be back out when Foster is fit. Go with Fabianski and a WBA def (Evans?)
