An extraordinary death threat ode to Granville provided the inspiration and backdrop for this week’s Scoutcast.

My co-host wasn’t sure whether to feel flattered or mildly panicked by a community post like no other.

Recovering from the menacing tribute, Granville joined forces with Jonty and myself to assess the merits of the deadline day arrivals, before grappling with another round of community questions.

We rinse through the De Bruyne debate, the heavy-hitter slump, briefly consider buying Jonny Evans, before tentatively giving out dating advice – again inspired by the imaginations of you, the community.

Wouldn't it be great if that Fantasy legend could recover enough fitness to give us at least one more season.

Will Sturridge be back in contention for the home fixture against Norwich i wonder his return might shake things up a bit

Not sure, but I think Benteke will become a better option once Sturridge is back.

Didn't realise a 45 Brazilian striking legend was in goals for Utd 🙂

P.S. Presume KDB will come in for Navas straight away but it is very hard to change a winning team. Especially one as efficient as City at the momen.

Not sure if anyone here is familiar with the USA television show, "the league." Silly, funny, show about a group of friends who play fantasy NFL football and mock each other mercilessly. Yesterday was the premier of the last season, and after leading off with a joke about how the Seattle Seahawks blew the super bowl, they did a bit mocking fantasy soccer....essentially FPL. Quite funny. Close to home!

I think even though it's based on an NFL fantasy league it's still hilarious. It's their lives! And the banter and everything else that comes with it is quality. I'm sure we can all relate.

Familiar. Watched a bunch when I was home sick on Netflix back some days ago.

If you see the clip on YouTube, post it.

I'm a retired Fantasy NFL'er too. (Saw your post yesterday after the fact.) With kids and advertising fatigue, I've pretty well forsaken all American sport for footie...

Though watching RedZone when I was hooked on my fantasy league may have spoiled me too... just can't stand all the commercials anymore.

I hearya. It's my sports culture sorta speak. Euro football is new to me, having caught on about 6 years ago. I grew up on American sports, and The League is quite resonant based on my sporting life.

I grew up in Westchester NY, then Florida, then Rutgers.

I was addicted to Inside the NFL in the early '80s.

I miss American Football, but the commentating during games went downhill (from strategic explanations of how the movements of the offensive line set up a play to "well, what they need to do now is score more points than their opposition"); the pregame shows went downhill (from insightful feature stories to 5 guys laughing loudly about something that isn't funny every 3 minutes) and the advertising became more frequent and longer. The game is fun, but I don't have patience for the disruptions and irritations.

Got two kids and time for one sport, rather it be one without all the ads.

Assume you've followed Matthew Berry at one point or another.

I run a fantasy Premier League "man's league" draft league that starts during the 2nd international break if you're interested.

Two divisions (1st and 2nd), 20 teams in each, 11 players drafted per side (play 7).

Thank you. No, actually. Appreciate the invite to your draft league! To be honest, I'm over invested in terms of time spent on FPL, so will politely pass. "I'm trying to cut down!" For me, The League, is more of a very funny sentimental take on a much loved pastime.

    I'd appreciate your thoughts Deadzone.

I have Diouf injured, 0FT and 4.7ITB. I have Surman, Gomez and Darmian on my bench. My other forwards are Agüero and Wilson, my other mids Ayew, Sanchez, Mahrez and Yaya.

    Should I:

    A) Play Surman and hope for a miracle return?
    B) Play one of the defenders in a 4-4-2?
    C) Take a hit and replace Surman with someone who can score more than 2 points?
    D) Take a hit and replace Diouf?

I'm leaning towards B or C at the minute.

    1. Walsh

How is starting Darmian not a consideration? That's what I'd do and just hold Diouf. Easy decision too, for me, in fact.

      Hey Diva,

Personally would recommend A. Everyone thinks that Liverpool have zero inspiration in midfield since Coutinho got suspended. That is somewhat correct, they will lose some little bit of 'magic' but I think players like Firmino/Lallana are going to step up this game and I see a goal from Benteke/Lallana breaking the deadlock.

Man U had a great start in regards to their defense until they faced an opponent that actually tested them and conceded twice. Imo I think Liverpool will score and your best bet is with Surman against his former team. 🙂

      Best of luck Diva.

Bertrand has not yet trained, so Targett has another week in him.

    Would you ?
    A) AOA
    B) Bench one attacker and go 3-4-3

    Butland
Kolarov - Shaw - Targett (Richards, 4.0 DF)
    Sanchez - Pedro - Yaya - Ayew - Mahrez
    Kun - Gomis - Wilson

I'm not sure I'd waste the AOA with Kol, Shaw and Targett on D. I'd rather use it when your defenders are hurt, have a dead week, or have crap fixtures.

I'm facing a similar issue as you (but with Silva and Payet instead of Yaya and Pedro) and I'm leaning toward benching Wilson - but it's close.

Ya Evans was actually the last guy I put in. Feel like WBA have good run of fixtures but only have 4.9m to spend on the last DF. Should I leave Targett in there for one more week to see?

    2. GuyIncognito

It might be just me but I think this Gomez era is going to come to a close shortly. Everyone else seems to think he's nailed on though so he is probably a safe enough pick.

      1. The Left Duke #3
        • 11 Years

Could well be but I think he is a keeper for the time being and have had him from the start so would be nice to get another price rise from him and have a sell value of 4.7m.

The first sign of rotation/bench then he will be transferred but he has looked pretty solid for a teenager. Prone to odd mistake but who doesn't at that age.

    3. Diva
      • 11 Years

As a wildcard team I like it. I understand Fred's concerns about Evans, but as you're on a wildcard you might as well get him in. If you don't have him and WBA keep racking up the clean sheets you'll want him and that's a FT. If you do have him and he doesn't play, you'll want to ditch him and that's a FT. Might as well gamble that he plays and try to save yourself a FT is my thinking.

This is true. I actually have Targett & other players at the mo as I haven't finalised the WC team due to placeholders ready for price rises.
If I did keep Targett it would be a FT ready to happen with Berty back training. Think I might role the dice with Evans.

I totally understand what you're saying. I just remember a similar debate last week where people were weighing the Swans offence against the United defence. I benched Darmain against the prevailing view and don't think I made the wrong choice. Of course, Watford are not United but that's what was behind my thinking. I like Swansea going forward a lot.

I think both will concede tbh. But Watford have proven they can frustrate teams. It took into the second half for City at home to break down Watford, that is saying something.

Jenkinson might not even play, that leaves me with Kolarov / Williams / Huth / Francis...

    Schmeichel (Butland)
    Kolarov Azpi Mert (Francis, Saylor)
Hazard (v) Mane Ozil Mahrez (Wanyama)
    Wilson Aguero (c) Benteke

    1 FT 0.1 ITB

    Benteke> Gomis?

    Hazard> Silva?

      No
      No

I see the sense in the Hazard transfer but personally wouldn't do it just yet. He's one player I have faith in. On the other hand, to get rid of Benteke? before Norwich and AVL? Madness.

Use what. I have 2 Free Transfers I might as well use 1 to make my team better

well you'd have to use both probably, downgrade someone and upgrade one of your 4 mill defenders...you don't want to get rid off any of your players, so what can you do? there are no 4 mill starting defenders you can do a straight swap to...if you wanna downgrade clyne to gomez or azpi to kolarov then maybe
