Not surprisingly, there are more reports on the Wayne Rooney injury surfacing this morning, following on from last night’s claims that the United striker would face several weeks on the sidelines.
United have themselves reported a direct quote from Alex Ferguson on the matter, stressing that Rooney’s setback is only a minor hamstring complaint…
“It’s difficult to say [how long Rooney will be out for]. It’s not a serious hamstring injury but I don’t think he’ll be available for next week. I think he’ll be out for more than a week.”
Ferguson’s comment suggests that Rooney will miss the Champions League tie with Basle on Tuesday, in addition to the home league clash with Norwich next weekend. That would be a major concern for Fantasy managers.
Rooney himself meanwhile, is more optimistic on his chances of making a quick recovery. He delivered his own prognosis via his official Twitter channel…
“Gutted I’m missing game today. Hopefully ok for Tuesday…”
Presumably more details on Rooney’s hamstring will surface on Monday, in preparation for the European tie. For now, there will be many Fantasy managers reserving their judgement and transfers, until more details are known.
