Last weekend saw a brace from Clint Dempsey grab the headlines in Fulham’s 2-0 win over Wigan as Mark Hughes’ side recovered from two straight league defeats to climb back into the top half of the table.

With a broken leg keeping Bobby Zamora sidelined for the next few months, Dempsey has been playing as an out-of-position forward for the Cottagers and the American has taken his chance to impress. In the six games Fulham have played since Zamora‘s Karl Henry-enforced injury, Dempsey has scored four goals and, taking Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points into the equation, has racked up a total of 41 points during this period, compared with just 6 points in the first four league games of the season. Averaging almost seven points per game up front, then, Dempsey is making a mockery of the fact his price has dropped £0.3m (from £7m to £6.7m) since the season began.

In this latest Members article, we check out Dempsey’s key Opta stats from Gameweek 10 and compare them with his Fulham strike-partner Moussa Dembele. The result is somewhat surprising…

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Team for this week

    Foster (Krul)
    Acole Konchesky Coleman Perch (Jara)
    Fabregas Adam Etherington (VDV Nani)
    Tevez Drogba Carroll

I have 4 players who won't start.. Nani is likely to feature in derby and VDV might make the Tuesday game.. I think either way the Tuesday game we will have lineups before deadline so can take VDV out for Nolan/Bale..

However, to get in Nolan, I have to remove a Newcastle player. How does Perch->Tamas sound? Jara's stats are impressive 11 key passes good for a 4.0 defender..

Do you think Perch will start any of the next 2 home games? I'm highly doubtful

I took Nani out and advise the same. You should definitely make some transfers if you can't field 11.

Nani also has two tough fixtures after this one, and there are no guarantees for the midweek derby.

Spurs may struggle at Bolton as you suggest.

However I looked at it as an 8 day gig. They have 2 juicy home games in the next week. Bale will almost certainly benefit from what will surely now be Van der Vaart's absence in those 3 games.

On that basis alone Bale in this week (on the distinct possibility that he carries his Champions league form forward for an hour or so today) makes sense as a transfer.

I've said on here many times that Bale's problem has nothing to do with his abilities and everything to do with VdV taking points away from him. Take VdV out of the equation and Bale should flourish.

      Arteta

      Not sure it's worth a 4pt hit, unless you can't field 11
Vidic will probably get a clean sheet (which will repay your hit)
Don't bank on another goal though!

Will it be better to play Elmo/Samba in a back four with Vidic, Ivanovic and Ridgewell?

And also...Nasri/Berbs as captain? Can't decide. Would love some help, thanks!

      Arteta.

He's only 4 points behind Cahill overall, and has scored far fewer goals. When he starts getting penalties and assists, he'll score better than Cahill over the season.

Also, he's 0.4 cheaper (0.3 when I made my decision), and that value can be put to good use in upgrading defense or wherever.

Done exactly the same thing, went Nani > Arteta over Cahill, although the Australian in me wanted to pick Timmy. Think the wiser choice is Arteta though, when he doesn't score he'll likely get 6 anyway because he's a bonus point magnet.

There is no value in Arteta until he starts or Everton strikers start scoring, you may aswell go for someone like NZogbia who is much cheaper and offering similar returns.

At the moment Arteta is an expensive Barry Ferguson.

Yes. However, unlike Mr Ferguson, he is a threat to score or get an assist at any time.

Which is why he costs more than Mr Ferguson.

As you well know anyway. 🙂

That's the reason why I and a lot of others have got him in. Plus, Yakubu appears to be showing a bit of form and Saha is back so he may have someone to get on the end of those assists now.

Basically we're paying for the potential he has to get serious points in any given gameweek. Feguson does not offer that same potential.

    Foster (Carson)
    Elmo, Cole, Simpson, Coleman (Jara)
    Fab(c), Nzog, Adam (VDV, Nani)
    Drog, Obinna, Chamakh

    2.4 in the bank

To transfer or not to transfer? It's definitely a shaky 11 for this week and would love to get Arteta in, I just don't want to lose VDV or Nani.

Tentative plan is to hold firm and do no transfers this week, allowing me to do the following next gameweek....
    Chamakh > Carroll
    Adam / nzog > Arteta

Any strong opinions on that plan?

Well Nani is definitely out for this weekend and the next two Man U fixtures are tough ones, so I think that the reasoning behind most of his transfers out is because he's unlikely to get many points over the next 9 days (3 gameweeks).

Assuming the fact that he will drop tomorrow as the herd realise that he's not playing and then transfer him out over the next couple of days, then if you can't field a full 11 players then it makes sense to replace him with Arteta or Cahill for the next 3 gameweeks.

In addition to that, he's a miserable cheating c*nt. 🙂

Hmmm interesting. Was more considering VDV out if anyone. Bought Nani at 8.2 so it's a bit of a price drop for me to lose him just for a couple of fixtures. Need to think this over some more.

Fair point about him being a miserable cheating c*nt though 🙂

That's one of the moves I did this week.

You can always get VdV back when he's fit again as the Bale move will free up loads of cash for you to be able to upgrade him to Van der Vaart in a week or so's time.

K, bobwils, but Nani is defo out this weekend and will drop in price as others transferred in for him go up and actually play and score points.

Cahill, Arteta, Dempsey.....they will probably rise fast enough over the next 9 days to mitigate any losses taken by selling Nani.

That's just my opinion. But thanks for explaining your rationale.

All of the above discussion is why this week is such a pivotal FF week. Especially with the Xmas period only 6/7 gw's away. Lots of knocks that are testing managers faith in their players. I would say it is only worth subbing out the likes of nani, vdv and malouda if you know you wont be making the reverse substitution one or two weeks down the line. thats why the squads have subs to allow you some lee-way.

personally i am staying put with vdv and nani, if they dont play im happy for barton/carroll to come off the bench. this is my team: http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/eventhist.mc?id=8309 (if you click on my name it is my footy blog)

Carroll off the bench is OK, but I can't see Barton getting much luck against Arse's mid.

I think the only way that Newcastle will get a goal against Arse is from set pieces where Carroll uses his height (an advantage against Arse's defence).

Maybe it'll come from a Barton assist, but I would put Carroll as first sub over Barton.

As an Arsenal fan I can honestly say you would be mad NOT to play Carroll, he is exactly the type of player that the defence will be having nightmares about.

Big, strong, direct, Newcastle will lose but he will have an impact on the game.

Malouda is fit and imo will play as its Liverpool away but Kalou may figure at some stage.

    Hows my team look?

    Foster
    Alex Elmo Coleman (Givet Gohouri)
    Fabs Malouda Bale Yaya (Albrighton)
    Chamakh Drogba Carroll

3.1m spare, can I improve? I'm thinking Yaya but he has a good fixture and I believe could surge forward more due to Tevez absence? Am I crazy & should I upgrade him?
(Any transfer will be a 4pt hit)

i like your 11 but your bench is awful! i would look to strengthen it a little with free subs

Givet & Albrighton are okay imo.

Proposed plans in coming weeks (subject to change):

        Gohouri -> Simpson
        Yaya -> Adam/Brunt
        Chamakh -> Tevez

Coleman is unlikely to start, reading between the lines of Moyes' comments today.
