The Dugout Discussion – Watford versus Crystal Palace

There’s just the one Premier League fixture for Fantasy managers to monitor over their Sunday lunches, with Watford welcoming Crystal Palace to Vicarage Road.

It’s a tale of two sides with conflicting form: the Hornets are riding high after back-to-back victories, while the Eagles’ wings have been clipped by successive defeats.

Watford rank third-bottom for goals conceded (five) and big chances conceded (five), illustrating their diligence at the back. Moreover, they are the only side in the league that are yet to concede a home goal this campaign. The Hornets have added a sting to their defensive resolve in recent Gameweeks, too, recording wins over Swansea and Newcastle.

The Eagles amassed eight goals through the opening four Gameweeks but have registered consecutive blanks since then. Also of concern to Alan Pardew is the fact that Palace have conceded more shots inside the box (66) than any team in the league. That being said, they rank sixth for big chances (10) and shots on target (28), which should ensure that Watford’s back line are in for a testing afternoon.

    I have a problem that many people have I guess.. want to replace Wilson with vardy, but got 3 Leicester..

    A) Wilson and Albrighton -> vardy and cheaper fifth mid
    B) Wilson and Schmeichel -> vardy and my hill
    C) Wilson to ighalo or other attacker? Max 7.2m

    Kane also notches for Tottenham after they thrash Man City
    Sturridge returns to play his first full game for Liverpool since April with a brace of goals
    Mata, Yaya, Eriksen, Coutinho, Payet, Cazorla, Depay, Ozil, Walcott all deliver from high-mid price range.

    - Of the top 20 highest priced midfielders in FPL, 13 delivered attacking returns this week, with 2 of the 7 that blanked being injured.
    - Of the top 10 highest priced forwards, 5 delivered attacking returns this week, with only Aguero blanking since Costa, Bony and Benteke were ruled out and Lukaku has yet to play on Monday.

    In conclusion.... is it JUST Aguero that hasn't returned to form yet from the big hitters?

    2 Decisions to make:

    1. AOA chip next week? Can't see Watford, bournouth or West Brom (probanly not Swansea either) keeping a CS, and of those front 8 no idea who I'd drop (Ayew on the bench purely from this GWK)

    2. With 1.7m I can do Pedro -> Sanchez with 0.2m to spare. Reluctant to do it this week, but I have a feeling Sanchez will go up 0.2m and Pedro will drop, leaving me 0.1m short next week! Worth taking the hit for the long run?

    So my obvious issues are Targett, Gomez & Wilson, probably going to have to take a hit

    A) Wilson + Gomez > Ighalo + JEvans (-4)
    B) Wilson + Gomez > Vardy + Martin (-4)
    C) Wilson + Gomez > Berahino + JEvans (-4)
    D) Wilson + Gomez + Targett > Ighalo + JEvans + Alderweireld (-8 Just spend the points and get it sorted)
    E) Wilson + Gomez + Ayew > Vardy + JEvans + Sako (-8 Another big hit, but would free up cash)
