Introducing Indian Super League Fantasy Football

In a few days the Indian Super League will kick off. Known as the Hero Indian Super League (for sponsorship reasons) this is a professional football league in India. The league is one of the top-tier football leagues in India, the other being the I-League. The league features eight franchise teams from all around India. The ISL runs for three months from October 3, with a finals series determining the champion that concludes on December 20.

The current champions are Atlético de Kolkata, who won the 2014 season by beating the Kerala Blasters 1–0. For those wanting to take part in its Fantasy game here is some key information about the teams involved as well as a link to the FFScout community’s league.

      I like the format. The schedule covers our International Break quite nicely but I want to know whether we are going to have brief guidelines or tips from any of the gentlemen on here? Didn't really follow 1st season/so I've no knowledge whatsoever.

        Never really followed the ISL. It is an unknown quantity for me, honestly. However, I've been supporting my local club Bengaluru FC since its inception two years ago in the I-League and can tell you that Sunil Chhetri, Eugenson Lyngdoh, Rino Anto and CK Vineeth are all quality!

        Let me dwell a bit more into this game and perhaps I can give some tips!

    Ahhh finally..! Please post an article with some more insight though ,the player pricing seems a bit off in the game and it is getting really tough to pick a team of starters within the given budget

      Exactly. Pricing is a bit flawed. There are not much cheapies/bargain players. You have to sacrifice one defender and 1 mid slot for some bench fodder cheapest player to afford a good team.

    Good work Moin. Though the pricing of the players is putting me in a tricky situation of keeping non starting bench fodders.

    Any particular player you have your eye on? Last season's start showed us strong and tall target men like Fikru would benefit hugely in ISL. Definitely going in my team that guy!

      A few picks that I would recommend,

      1) Eugenson Lyngdoh - Was Bengaluru FC Fan's/Player's player of the year. I-League midfielder of the year. Football Player Association of India (FPAI) Player of the Year last season. Great set piece taker. Was Bengaluru FC's assist king. Has goals in his locker too. Loves a long shot.

      2) Jackichand Singh - I-league's best player last season. Another goal scoring midfielder

      3) Boithang Haokip - Arguably I-league's best free-kick taker. Offers great value for money at 6.5Cr

      4) CK Vineeth - Kerala lad playing for Kerala blasters, has pace and trickery. Primarily used as an inverted winger at Bengaluru FC. He's a game changer.

      5) Rino Anto - An attacking full back. Great crossing ability.

      And of course, Sunil Chhetri, he scores when he wants!

    Elano was gold last season in terms of goals and assists that I know, and so was Iain Hume for Kerala, but he is playing for Kolkata this season.

          Shouldn't be nailed on. Lalchhuanmawia Fanai may well start ahead of him. Displaced Keegan from the starting eleven at Bengaluru FC. His great showing earned him a debut for India too.

        The problem with picking a Delhi defender is that I'm already picking Riise, and two defenders from the same team doesn't seem like a good idea until we know for certain which are the tighter defences.

    I think I'm gonna go with 5 at the back for 5-6 crores you can find players that will start and get you points ,not sure you can find an under 6.5 mid or and under 7.5-8 m forward that is certain of starting and likely to get points...the forwards look absolutely rubbish value imo

              He's in my team. Was very consistent last year. The only problem is he's very flexible, so he started most of the later games at fullback last season. He might start at RB again for the first three games with Rino Anto away for international duty. We do have Nallapan Mohanraj and Denzel Franco for the fullback slots too, so it depends a lot on Habas.

                    Good shout. Went for Thoi Singh instead despite him being a reverse OOP. Watched him play regularly. Tireless player, excellent at breaking up attacks. But then, now I doubt if many points can be raked up from winning the ball.. Scored a goal in every 3.2 games in the league last season. If he can maintain that I'll be happy.

    Some Updates for you guys that may be useful (Got from other blogs/news/forums):

    1. Inured List: Lalchhawnkima, Jewel Raja, Josemi, Dhanchandra Singh, Dhanpal Ganesh,

    2. I would avoid hot picks like Chhetri/Lyngdoh/Robin/Bikah Jairu/Jackichand Singh/Jhingan as they will not play until India vs Oman tie. Generally avoid members of the India NT squad for at least 1st round.

    3. For Chennai Fikru is nursing a groin injury and is on 75% for the opener.

    4. ATK have Josemi, N Mohanraj and Tiri ruled out with injuries in defence. Midfielders Jewel Raja and goalkeeper Juan Calatayud are also not fit.

    5. Apparently all the three goalkeepers of Delhi Dynamos injured. So if you have Ravi Kumar in squad, you may wanna replace him. Source: Marcus Mergualho on Twitter.
    Also heard the roumer that Adil Nabi will be unavailable for the first match of Delhi Dynemos. Looking for the reliable confirmation. If u have him keep tabs on him.
