Alexis Sanchez nets twice for Chile. Aaron Ramsey scores as Wales see off Andorra. Kevin de Bruyne and Eden Hazard both notch for Belgium, Willian bags a brace for Brazil, whilst Graziano Pelle fires Italy’s winner over Norway. Here’s the round up from yesterday’s fixtures.

Good News for Pellegrini

Kevin De Bruyne scored a dipping free-kick and served up an assist as Belgium secured a 3-1 win over Israel. Vincent Kompany was handed a 58-minute run-out for the Red Devils after recovering from the calf complaint that has kept him out of the last three league matches.

The Scout Says: In light of De Bruyne’s two converted free-kicks in as many outings for Belgium, Sky Blues boss Manuel Pellegrini might well be tempted to hand the former Wolsburg midfielder a share of set-pieces, boosting his appeal further. De Bruyne is in irresistible form – boasting six goals and five assists in his last seven appearances for club and country – so is likely to receive a huge increase on his 12% ownership prior to Gameweek 8 when Sergio Aguero owners reassess their Man City coverage. With match-ups against the Cherries, Norwich (home) and Aston Villa (away) on the agenda over the next four Gameweeks, the 10.3-priced midfielder is well placed to perpetuate his purple patch. Kompany’s return to action will surely boost City’s defensive potential. The league leaders registered five successive clean sheets with their skipper on board but have conceded in each of the last three without him.

Gunners Midfielders in the Goals

Alexis Sanchez turned out a virtuoso performance for Chile in a 4-3 win against Peru, gracing the scoresheet twice and also producing an assist to continue his sensational recent form. Aaron Ramsey grabbed a much-needed goal for Wales, firing home from close range after the Andorran keeper parried into his path.

The Scout Says: There were concerns over Sanchez’s fitness heading into the international break after he picked up a minor groin complaint against Manchester United, but it’s safe to say these fears were not realised. Although Arsenal next travel to a Watford side that’s conceded a solitary goal at Vicarage Road this term, Sanchez’s irrepressible form should encourage a large proportion of his ownership to assign him to captaincy duty – that’s nine goals and two assists in his last five appearances for club and country. Ramsey is yet to exert his influence in the league this term, having drawn blanks in all of his eight starts. Nonetheless, his barren spell has not been for the lack of trying: the Welshman ranks in the top 10 among midfielders goal attempts (21) and shots inside the box (13). Attacking returns look inevitable, then, but the form of Theo Walcott (two goals and assists in four) and Mesut Ozil (one goal and three assists in four) render him a peripheral figure in the mid-priced bracket – as his modest 4% ownership attests to.

Chelsea Wide Men both notch

Eden Hazard slotted home from inside the area to claim Belgium’s final goal on the night. In South America, Willian helped Brazil recover from their defeat to Chile last Friday with a brace in a 3-1 home victory over Venezuela.

The Scout Says: Having missed a penalty last time out for Marc Wilmots’ outfit, a goal from open play serves as a timely confidence boost for the out-of-form Hazard. Despite tallying one goal and three assists over the last trio of Gameweeks, Hazard’s failure to live up to his big-hitting status has been emphasised by the recent explosive returns from Sanchez and De Bruyne in the midfield bracket. That being said, it was consistency rather than braces and hat-tricks (he recorded zero of both) that rendered Hazard an essential recruit last term, so a strong run of upcoming fixtures (AVL, whu, LIV, sto, NOR) could set him on the right trajectory again. Willian’s smart finishing for Selecao – albeit aided by some lacklustre keeping for his first strike – comes off the back of three goals in his last trio of appearances for the Blues. Jose Mourinho may well be set to continue with the Brazilian in his first XI for the visit of Villa, placing further question marks over Pedro’s minutes, after the latter was benched for the first time this season in the previous league match against Southampton.

Pelle the Azzurri Hero

Southampton frontman Graziano Pelle played from start to finish and recorded the winner for Italy as they came from behind to beat Norway 2-1.

The Scout Says: Akin to his maiden year in the Premier League, Pelle has made an excellent start to this campaign, chalking up five goals and assists. With Aguero owners now scouring the market for a temporary replacement, Southampton’s prime frontman is hard to overlook as he prepares to face off against Leicester City, Bournemouth, Sunderland and Stoke City over the next five Gameweeks. On that note, Sadio Mane – who’s tallied two goals and three assists in his previous three starts – should also enjoy an upsurge of investment, considering that he’s currently owned by just 7.2% of all Fantasy managers.

Canaries Pair find the net

Nathan Redmond bagged a superb goal for England U21s, receiving a long goal-kick from Jordan Pickford before cutting in from the right flank and finishing with a driven strike into the bottom corner. Unlikely scorer Alexander Tettey bagged his second goal in as many appearances for Norway, thus tripling his career total (three) over the international break.

The Scout Says: Ranking top for goals (three), attempts (16) and shots on target (five) among Norwich’s midfield contingent, Redmond is priced attractively at the 5.6 mark. However, manager Alex Neil has preferred to employ the Birmingham-born winger as an impact sub in the last two Gameweeks, diminishing Redmond’s prospects as a viable route into a Canaries attack that’s only been outscored (12 goals) by five teams this season. In spite of Tettey’s recent flourish, the fact that the 4.3-priced enforcer has netted just three goals in 93 outings for Norwich tempers our enthusiasm.

Ki Scores for Korea

Swansea’s Ki Sung-Yeung was amongst the goals yesterday afternoon, with the midfielder converting a penalty during South Korea’s 3-0 win over Jamaica.

The Scout Says: With eight goals and one assist across 2689 minutes last term, Ki proved to be a handy pick-up in the budget bracket. He’s struggled for game time at the start of this campaign, though – with Jack Cork the favoured partner for Jonjo Shelvey in the double pivot – but has recently strung together back-to-back starts for the Swans. Over the last two Gameweeks, none of Ki’s midfield team-mates tallied more attempts (four), underlining his knack for drifting into space around the 18-yard box. Given the presence of four strong match-ups (STO, avl, nor, BOU) for the Swans over the next five Gameweeks, Ki could certainly emerge as a viable differential during that stretch if he keeps ahead of Cork in the pecking order.

Because WCs show as zero transfers for the week - but most players with injuries would have made a transfer by now. There will be a few exceptions, of course - but it'll be a good guide.

    Ruddy
    Dann, Kolarov, Bellerín
Cabaye, Mané, Sánchez (c), Mahrez, Payet
    Ighalo, Martial

    Butland, Agüero, Joe Gomez, Oxford

Some help please... I'm already on a -8 before GW9 and have 1.4m ITB

    a) Should I start Butland over Ruddy?
    b) If Kolarov is not fit and Bellerin is rested I may only have 1 playing defender! 🙁 - should I take another hit to swap out Gomez for a guaranteed starter? Could stretch to Azpi if I do it now or is there a better def transfer option?
    c) I'm a bit worried about Mahrez not starting again which would leave me with only 4 playing mids and 2 forwards - should I take a hit to transfer out Aguero this week (was gonna use my FT next week to bring in another forward)?

    Chers

Don't worry about Mahrez and Bellerin, theyll both start and hope Kolarov plays

    2. Hakchak
      • 14 Years
      10 years, 3 months ago

      a) coin toss, either could work - Ruddy probably shades it
      b) you've already taken 8 point hit, question whether worth bringing another def for -4... gambling on clean sheet to bring to positive
      c) Aguero to Pelle / Lukaku if you don't want to double up to be sure, makes sense given they will likely outscore Mahrez, also you can play AOA if you want

I have the same dilemma with Butland/Ruddy. Flip a coin.

Chances are good that Mahrez, Bellerin and Kolarov might all play. I'd avoid the hit if I were you.

The other issue is how you can be on -8 and still have Kun... Early transfer during an international break is never a good idea. Three early transfers during an international break are an even worse idea.

Yes, I agree I should have waited (lesson learned), but despite scoring 103 in GW8, 6 of my 15 from that week either started on the bench or didn't play at all so I had to make some changes and instead of seeing my duds fall in value and my targets rise I wanted to get them done early.

Fair enough. Good luck for the weekend. As a Kolarov, Bellerin and Mahrez owner myself, I hope you'll have a playing 11 this week.

Thanks for the responses guys, much appreciated

I think I'll sit tight for now - will def not take another hit for a defender, as Hakchak has said, gambling on a clean sheet to claw back the minus points - Also Kolarov could be fit and Gomez might be back in the team when he's fit under Klopp.

I'm gonna hold tight on Kun too I think and use my FT to swap him next week then keep my fingers crossed that Mahrez plays - if he does I feel like my midfield 5 should do well.

    Begovic (McCarthy)
    Sagna-Bellerin-Prodl
    Sterling-Sanchez-Mahrez-Coutinho
    Pelle-Martial-Costa

    Subs - Westwood - Francis - Dier

Had to take a -8 for this team, worth it?

Sagna's place looks in doubt now Zabaleta is back in the team, especially after their last result.
Otherwise looks good - Costa is my number 1 target to replace Kun with my FT next week, think him and Chelsea might pick up some form from here... they certainly have the fixtures in their favour.

Had a cut off Perez the last two weeks and now he's out on my WC. He's not the top dog in terms of field position so while he seems quite handy,I'm not sure he'll be in the goals as much as the other chap.

    Butland, McCarthy
    Kolarov, Francis, Dawson, Targett, Muniesa
    Sanchez, KDB, Mahrez, Ayew, Westwood
    Pelle, Ighalo, Vardy

    A: Muniesa/Targett ---> Bertrand/Williams (-4)
    B: Play AOA Chip. Westwood ---> Mane/Payet/Hazard (-4)
C: No transfer. Hope Kolarov plays

    Need some inspiration;

    Myhill (Schmeichel)
    Francis, Cedric, Alderweireld (Kolarov*, Koscielny*)
Payet, Sanchez (c), Mane, Mahrez (Bentaleb*)
    Martial, Ighalo, Ageuro*

Only have 10 players so need to do some surgery. 0FT, £0.9M ITB.

Obvious move is Aguero > Pelle, but I want KDB and will be 0.2m short of doing Bentaleb > KDB (and playing AoA). Was looking to downgrade Koscielny at some point to Bellerin, but is that worth a hit? If I did all of these transfers it would mean -12pts, but then I'll have a fully functioning team (albeit with three Southampton players).

    Suggestions?

would kos->bellerin and kun_>pelle be possible?
KDB looks key since silva and aguero injured; personally would get rid Mahrez. Saint away is hard.

I have 8.6 in the bank.

Below are my mids, I am thinking if I should take a hit to bring KDB in.

Payet, Mahrez, Sanchez, Ayew and Morrison.

Should I trade? or stay? I am playing 3-4-3.

"Never take a hit for a defender unless you can't get 3 playing". Is this everyone's philosophy? I understand that the -4 essentially corresponds to a clean sheet, so by not taking the hit you are essentially 'guaranteed' this amount.

    Anyone disagree with this?

(I'm tempted to do Gomez to Bellerin despite the above logic, with the alternative being playing Francis)

      • 12 Years
      10 years, 3 months ago

      Your logic is sound

    1. Hands Guber
      • 10 Years

If you take a medium term outlook on hits then it can often be worth it. You may take a net loss the week of the hit but the net gain over the next 3-4 (for instance) fixtures may justify it.

Gomez is injured and not playing, Bellerin is fit and starting, if you spend -4 on Bellerin this week and he doesn't keep a clean sheet but plays 60+ minutes you have a net loss of -2 on the week - because Gomez isn't playing which means he scores 0 points. If Bellerin scores a 2 or a 6 in the following week and Gomez is again injured/out of favour, you break even or have a gain of 4 points +.

      1. Larry Legend
        • 10 Years

Pretty much this. I'd only take a hit on a defender if its necessary to solve a real longer term problem (for example if your defence features 2 dropped players and a rotation risk), AND you can't solve it without taking a hit elsewhere due to other priorities.

I disagree if you're bringing someone in medium to long term.

For example, let's say you have Gomez (not playing) and money to bring in Dawson from wba. You'll more than make up the difference

I'm in the same boat with Gomez to Cedric. I think I'll wait so long as I have 3 playing - the rate Chelsea are going my 3rd defender Richards might get me some points.

"despite the above logic" => I assume that you have a 3rd defender playing, in which case, who?

I did that exact trade to avoid having to play Francis, and also to set my team better up for the future (my entire defence needs a workover).

If your team looks a lot better after the hit I think it can be justified, but as someone already said, chances are that you'll have to take a net loss this GW.

I'm in exact same boat man. Wanna do Gomez to bellerin but if bellerin gets a cleanie and a bonus he'll get 7. Francis will get 0 I reckon so that's a 2 or 3 point profit if u think city will score more than 2 goals at home and Arsenal will keep a cleanie. ...

I'm thinkin of making that gamble and in doing so, acquiring bellerin in my team for the future

      Thoughts ?
