Our Watchlist rankings, offering player recommendations for a three-to-four week gameweek period, were given a full update for the new site layout this morning.

An aspect of the new design we haven’t stressed so far is that many site elements, particularly the Watchlist, are now more streamlined, enabling us to update more quickly and more often. We will be looking to keep on top of the Watchlist rankings on a daily basis now and very soon we will be adding a “Last Updated” date to the list so you can be notified when changes have taken place. We will also be generating more articles based on Watchlist movement when new entries or major changes occur. All good, then.

For now, however, let’s rattle through the standings and offer some reasoning behind our current thinking…

The goalkeeper rankings see very little movement with Swansea’s Michel Vorm and Newcastle’s Tim Krul still reigning supreme as they continue to return exceptional Fantasy value between the sticks. Krul has three home games in the next four to come, although would seem likely to have to rely on saves to earn his keep with Spurs at St James’ Park next. As for Vorm, three away games in four will test his mettle but again, saves and a home clash with Bolton in gameweek 10, should see him continue to offer value.

Below that pairing, Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczesny again offers an assured route into any potential Arsenal defensive returns – three strong Emirates fixtures in the next four affords a strong chance of clean sheets, despite continuing reservations surrounding the Gunners’ back four. Having withdrawn from the Poland squad with a back problem, we’ll be monitoring the Gunners stopper’s fitness- any indication he’s unlikely to make it and Szczesny will be replaced by Łukasz Fabiański in the rankings. Aston Villa’s Shay Given remains in our thinking as Alex McLeish’s unit display obvious defensive resolve, although we fully expect their unbeaten run to come to an end at City in gameweek 8. Wigan’s Ali Al Habsi and Norwich’s John Ruddy offer budget potential lower down our rankings as fixtures fall nicely through to November.

Liverpool’s Jose Enrique gets a temporary climb in our rankings following two consecutive assists and a clean sheet at Goodison. Like Arsenal, there are question marks over the solidity of the Liverpool back four but, with Norwich and Swansea at Anfield in the next four gameweeks, a clean sheet or two looks likely. Enrique’s threat from the left-flank will always be a factor, too.

There’s little movement below the Spaniard with the likes of Vincent Kompany, Jose Bosingwa and Steven Taylor continuing to offer potential. John Arne Riise’s ranking is starting to look justified too – he was a constant threat down the left for Fulham in their 6-0 drubbing of QPR and, of course, returned a second consecutive clean sheet.

Bolton’s Gary Cahill, Arsenal’s Kieran Gibbs and Norwich City’s Marc Tierney are all climbers in the lower echelons of the rankings – all three present gambles in Fantasy terms but, if you’re searching for differentials – they fit the bill. Cahill was an immensely popular Fantasy signing following his stunning strike in the day one defeat of QPR but, ever since, has plummeted in ownership. Ironically, he is just about to embark on a set of fixtures that could see his returns improve. He’s still likely to need to find attacking returns to boast his points tally, however.

City’s David Silva and United’s Nani remain the top two in the midfield rankings – Silva’s team-mate, Samir Nasri, is now their closest rival. Nasri benefits from the uncertainty surrounding Rafael Van der Vaart’s role in the Tottenham side (see today’s Scribbles) to climb the ladder. Chelsea’s Juan Mata falls from grace somewhat having firmly played second fiddle to Frank Lampard’s hat-trick at Bolton. There’s no place for Lampard in our rankings right now with Mata still the preferred option in Chelsea’s midfield. Lampard’s price, as always, is a major stumbling block but, should Andre Villas-Boas continue to select him in midfield and Lampard continues to show form, we may have to re-consider.

Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey is a big climber and a very intriguing option in midfield given Arsenal’s forthcoming run of opponents. Featured in last week’s Numbers Game article for Members prior to his strike at White Hart Lane, Ramsey continues to produce returns and keep Mikel Arteta in the shade. With Theo Walcott still proving a major frustration, Ramsey is the sole representative of Arsene Wenger’s midfield in our rankings.

Lower down we’ve got the prospects presented by Swansea’s Scott Sinclair, Villa’s Barry Bannan and Norwich City’s Wes Hoolahan – all of whom have emerged in recent weeks. Wigan’s Victor Moses certainly hasn’t done himself justice of late but we’re sticking by him in the Watchlist – with Bolton, Fulham and Wolves in the next four, he has every chance repaying our faith in the coming weeks and making a mockery of his budget 4.9 price tag.

Up front, Arsenal’s Robin Van Persie continues to top the rankings, holding off Wayne Rooney, who faces far stiffer opposition in the coming weeks. Sergio Aguero’s injury has him drop a place with Liverpool’s Luis Suarez jumping to third.

Below this pack we have familiar names, with Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge perhaps looking the strongest option; his two goal salvo at the Reebok surely cemented his starting role on the right of the Chelsea attack and, at just 6.5 in the FPL, he looks a very strong third striker option for the coming weeks at least.

We’re still waiting on further confirmation of Emmanuel Adebayor’s reported hamstring woes – right now he holds just above Sturridge. Gabby Agbonlahor’s showing in the 2-0 win over Wigan keeps him simmering, with Fulham’s Bobby Zamora and Newcastle’s Demba Ba offering options for those looking to plunder the mid-price market. Fulham’s Andy Johnson, at just 5.1 in the FPL right now, looks your real budget contender.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Thoughts on this WC team please, gents?

    Vorm, Al-Habsi
N Taylor, Woodgate, Kompany, Gabbidon, Simpson
    Nani, Silva, VdV, Dyer, Tiote
    Sturridge, Aguero, Rooney

No money in bank after that lot.

Yeah, not out of choice though, but this is why I had to WC now, as I didn't have Nani or Silva.

Getting those two in at the prices they are now means that I have to sacrifice one of Bosingwa or Kompany. I figure a 3rd big hitter in MF like VdV will outweigh a downgraded defender.

Can't you keep Bos, and get in Enrique, dropping Kompany? Just an option to think about anyway...

I did drop Kompany and kept Bos when I activated WC on Saturday, but now I'm thinking Kompany will be a safer bet for cleanies, will play more mins and is not likely to be rotated.

Another option is Modric or Bale instead of VdV, which opens up funds to get Petrov as 4th mid and someone like Enrique to partner Kompany.

          VDV/Tiote/Woodgate

          Or

          Modric/Petrov/Enrique

Modric is definitely a viable option - I'd favour the latter.

I've said this to an earlier team - I'm also wildcarding and would want Suarez and RVP over Rooney & Aguero, however this is just a preference and comes back to the fixtures v form/rotation issue.

Nani & Rooney will undoubtedly tick over with points in the next few weeks, however I wouldn't want to miss on out a potential RVP Emirates / LS Anfield haul.

Personally, i think it's a fairly weak team, especially considering you've wildcarded to get there.
Vorm is strong at home and will rotate well with another GK, but that GK isn't Al Habsi.

Kompany is the only DF that i like. Simpson is strong but fear he will be rotated with R Taylor at r back once Stanton comes in at l back. N Taylor is same as Vorm - strong at home, but not week in week out. Woodgate is way too much of a rotation risk at Stoke, and they are starting to (uncharectaristically) leak goals recently. Gabbidon (or any QPR df) just doesn't do it for me.

Fairly strong MF - Nani, Silva and VDV look good, as do Dyer and Tiote on their day. VDV is slight worry with being played out on wing.

      Good FW.

wow, after using your WC it should be better

Very weak defense and not much depth across the squad. Taylor, Woodgate, Gabiddon, Simpson, Dyer, Tiote and your keepers are really only bench players unless they have good matchups but you'll be forced to play them.

They are all linked to population growth. Third world countries with lack of economic development, lack of family planning and urbanisation have a more rapidly expanding population ratio than more developed countries where the aforementioned factors are more prevalent.

Just expand from there and develop each factor/point.

Many HAPPY Returns 🙂 shame about the name.

Urbanisation and economic developement often with increased individual wealth reduces the need for large families often seen as essential in farming communities. Secondary to this is the expense of accommodation in urban environments. Many other factors, I'll leave them to you to read about, you might enjoy it. 🙂

See my proposed WC team, above. I'm leaning towards 3 big hitters in MF and 2 Top tier strikers.

Personally I have picked 2 big midfielders with 3 big hitters
Imo Rooney/RVP/Aguero/Ade/Suarez will outscore most midfielders and can be rotated for other expensive striker depending on fixtures! The combo of Ade,Suarez and Aguero may allow for the best of both depending on your team value

well, i have had three big forwards since the start but cant seem to get all three of them firing on the same GW....one might do real well but the other two dont....

...i am therefore seriously considering changing the balance of the side to have 2 biggies up front with a budget option, and revert to three strong mids as per last season....

...the only downside though is the fact that BAP's are so strongly loaded to goal scorers this year...oh wee, another week and a half to dwell on it i suppose..!!??

warnock, de laet, kompany, bosingwa, simpson
    young, nasri, jarvis, tiote, sinclair
    rooney, aguero, adebayor

    players i'm considering losing:

bosingwa (only 1 clean sheet in 7, jones a better prospect after his next 2 games)
warnock (2 home games in next 6)
young (rotation risk, swap for nani?)
jarvis (only 2 home games in next 6, not good form)
    aguero (injury?)
    adebayor (injury?)

Nasri will score more points than Silva, in my opinion not worth making that transfer. He's also on form after his last game, and is sure to get more game time. He's always looked more likely to score than Silva imho in the games I watched. I guess you can't be too disappointed with last week's performance...

10-4 for sure on that, he looks like the same Nasri from Arsenal, the only difference he has more than one scoring target. He´s still limited to one side of the field and Silva is not and he is still very inconsistent, which Silv more or less, is not.

Young had a slight ankle injury, that's why he missed the last game. Nani is as likely, if not more, to be rotated. Valencia has been covering at RB for the last couple of games, but once we've got a fit RB he'll be a threat to Nani.

Aguero and Ade, just wait til nearer the deadline - Aguero looks like he'll be fine, not sure about Ade. If they're both OK, Jarvis is probably the priority - maybe Petrov, Ramsey?

Is Cleverly on target to make them a left foot midfield against Liverpool? Could spell lions share of service for Young anyway regardless of Nani rotation no?

Ronaldhino was Iniesta class, if not quite Messi class, for 3 or 4 seasons in a much worse Barca side. They're both FIFA World Player of the Year (Ronaldinho back to back) and Ballon D'Or winnners. I'm not too sure how many of those awards Lamps has won, though 😉

Easy...Fat Frank just rolls off the tongue better. Besides it´s almost evolved into like a mob name. Besides when a person is clearly not ¨Fat¨ I don´t think he needs taking up for. And I don´t know about the ¨he was always in form¨ part of your statement imho. To me he appeared lazy early in the season and let hungrier players (see McEachran, Ramires) do damn near all of the running. At times he had very little influence in his island of the pitch and would definitely be chased off any ball at his foot by half the players marking him...that´s being kind. I´m not saying he definitely can do things with the ball at his foot. But is he willing to do the things needed to put himself in the position to be ¨the worlds best player¨still is still yet to be determined. A hat trick still doesn´t buy that. Sorry brah. You buying? AVB aint that far off, and there will be more heartbreak for him...hope not but cruising is in his blood now.

85 year old bag, riches lady in spain married today to a dude Alfonso 24 years younger. She shut her kids whining up by giving them their inheritance early.

¨According to the Spanish newspaper El Pais, her eldest son Carlos will inherit the Liria Palace in Madrid and the Monterrey Palace in Salamanca.

Her other palaces and thousands of hectares of land will be divided between her children and eight grandchildren, the report said.

What's the buzz about Hoolahan, as mentioned in this Watchlist article? Aside from scoring on the opening day and being rotated ever since, without a single bonus point, he hasn't actually contributed anything tangible?

I suspect after the initial FFS season projections of 7 goals 7 assists and the 2nd highest VFM midfielder, he is another FFS darling!

A nice team, I actually have 10 of your players so I like it obviously!!!

        Here's what I would do:
Aguero out Suarez in - income £2.1M
Ferguson out Scott Sinclair in - cost £1.8M

Aguero is more likely to be rotated with champions league fixtures. Suarez has 3 good fixtures coming up, after Man U:
        1) UTD
        2) NOR
        3) wba
        4) SWA

But then Suarez has che, Man C. I do think Suarez will rack up the points though in the next 4 turns.

You could also try Gabbidon out and Phil Jones in if yoiu preferred that option. - Cost £1.9M

        Just some thoughts!
