634x258 Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope claimed no new victims over the last couple of days, but there are now 13 players finely balanced at the four-yellow mark with just one match remaining in Gameweek 9.

Prior to the weekend’s action getting underway, there were ten men on the verge of a one-match suspension: Ciaran Clark, Jeffrey Schlupp, Fernandinho, Eliaquim Mangala, Matteo Darmian, Jack Colback, Oriol Romeu, Billy Jones, Dele Alli and Mark Noble were all precariously perched.

James Milner joined that cast with a late challenge on Danny Rose and rode his luck for the remainder of Liverpool’s encounter against Spurs, escaping without a red despite making a number of clumsy tackles. Meanwhile, Erik Lamela proved similarly tenacious for the home team and subsequently received his fourth caution of the campaign, placing him at risk of missing the North London derby in Gameweek 12. Spurs and Man City are the only two teams with one than one player on this week’s Tightrope, with both sides affording us two apiece.

Finally, Claudio Yacob – a midfield lynchpin for a West Bromwich Albion outfit that ranks joint-top for clean sheets (five) this term – entered the referee’s notebook for the third time in four outings, earning him caution number four for the campaign.

In terms of new suspensions, Dwight Gayle received his marching orders for two soft yellows during Crystal Palace’s 3-1 home defeat to West Ham United yesterday. The Eagles frontman was dismissed with the score level at one apiece late in the first-half and, post-match, manager Alan Pardew reckoned the decision was a little unjust:

“Our striker gets booked for a bad challenge, quite rightly. The second challenge, the referee knows he’s booked, he’s missed it by a centimetre probably and he sends him off. I thought a man of his experience perhaps should have looked at that situation and given him his final warning. I’m not excusing him from complete blame. The second challenge, he shouldn’t make. He’ll have to learn from that. Having said that, I still think it was very harsh to send him off.”

The 5.1-priced Gayle – who has started the last three outings up top – now sits out the Eagles’ trip to Leicester City next Gameweek, with Pardew likely to turn to Fraizer Campbell or Patrick Bamford if Connor Wickham fails to recover from injury in time. Given that he’s failed to net in five league appearances, Gayle may find it difficult to make an immediate return to the first XI in Gameweek 11.

Turning our attention towards players that have served their time, Eric Dier and Sebastian Coates – who toppled off the Tightrope last Gameweek – are available for selection next time out. The former will be hoping to reclaim his starting role in central midfield for the trip to Bournemouth, though Mousa Dembele staked a claim for another start with a man-of-the-match performance against Liverpool yesterday. Coates, meanwhile, will have to impress new manager Sam Allardyce to displace either Younes Kaboul or John O’Shea in central defence.

Jeremain Lens also makes a welcome return for the Black Cats, having fulfilled his duties and sat out their 1-0 loss at The Hawthorns. The Dutch midfielder – who has played a part in five of Sunderland’s eight league goals this season – could have a key part to play in the Wear-Tyne derby next Sunday as Big Sam welcomes his former club to the Stadium of Light.

This Sterling performance - is it a one-off?

Or is he being given a bit more freedom and attacking responsibility in the wake of Kolarov's absence keeping in mind he had to do a lot of covering for Kolarov's defensive lapses.

I think City mids are perhaps falling under the Arsenal effect. Perhaps a similar approach to City mids should be taken i.e having the patience with whoever you pick, City are such a free-scoring team (like Arsenal) that one of your mids is bound to contribute directly.

Obviously, both teams have clear reliable first choice picks, but it's the second investment that gets tricky.

True. Flirting with the idea of going Sanchez - Ozil | KDB - Sterling

But there's just too many great value options in Ayew, Payet, Mane.

Norwich will be decimated by City....

I don't have any City attackers at the moment 😯 should be okay this weekend though. Hopefully the United fixture slows down the price rises for Bony and Sterling. Unlikely though.

Simon's GW5 WC was an odd one. He has too many issues to fix by just using FTs now...similar to Mark's situation 2 seasons ago when he just wouldn't take a hit.

I think you're looking at an average. They had a few home games where they kept the ball a lot and hardly conceded a chance, like the Bou - Lei game (5 shots - 4 shots). If they can keep hold of the ball they have a chance at cleansheets, but when they don't they get hammered

Kola will drop by 0.3 before he plays. That's worth roughly 2 points over the season.

Clichy may be back and Kola may face a rotation threat = potential 2 points.

Tboy has better clean sheet chances.

Hmm... I think a hit may be worth it... just.

Happy with my front 7 this week. But considering spending a transfer on defence for the week.

    Begovic
    Skrtel Dawson Naughton (Coloccini Kolarov)

    Should I...

    A) Save and have 2 FTs to bring in a City attacker in GW11.

This would probably involve a downgrade of Kolarov to 4.3 and below next week.

    B) Kolarov > Aldeweireld/Walker this week

Still get a City attacker next week...would be for a hit involving Skrtel out but would have up to 5.3 for a replacement defender.

    1. NABIL - FPL otai
      • 13 Years
      10 years, 3 months ago

Hmm, is there any chance Kolarov might feature in GW11? If so, then A. Maybe you can get then fund by downgrading elsewhere too.

      1. Shifty

There's a chance if the 2 week timeline from Pello is right.

I have quite an expensive front 8 though, so maybe I should be looking to ditch one.

Sanchez Payet Mane Ayew Mahrez ||| Costa Pelle Vardy

Another option is 2 of Mane/Payet/Ayew > KDB or Sterling + 4.5 and below mid...can't play them all I guess.

        1. NABIL - FPL otai
          • 13 Years
          10 years, 3 months ago

Wow. Expensive and really strong. At least with Costa you know it'd be easy to get Kun when he returns.

The only fall guy candidate that I can see right now is either Mane or Ayew. Getting the right City attacker, now, is a whole new story and very tricky. Good luck with that.

            10 years, 3 months ago

Yeah. Put myself in a sticky situation but I prioritized having a good striker, premium bracket with good fixtures until Aguero returns and that meant Costa.

When Aguero returns, KDB Sanchez Aguero is too much i feel. Sterling Sanchez Aguero is a happy medium imo. Will need to think this through carefully if I want to do transfers for free.

Much easier if i take a hit 😀

      A imo

wouldn't get rid of skrtel, pool have great fixtures from gw14, and they have kept clean sheets away to Spurs and Arsenal so they aren't bad defensively...mind you Spurs have great fixtures from gw15 onwards too, so kolarov for Spurs def is nice in long run
