634x258 Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope claimed no new victims over the last couple of days, but there are now 13 players finely balanced at the four-yellow mark with just one match remaining in Gameweek 9.

Prior to the weekend’s action getting underway, there were ten men on the verge of a one-match suspension: Ciaran Clark, Jeffrey Schlupp, Fernandinho, Eliaquim Mangala, Matteo Darmian, Jack Colback, Oriol Romeu, Billy Jones, Dele Alli and Mark Noble were all precariously perched.

James Milner joined that cast with a late challenge on Danny Rose and rode his luck for the remainder of Liverpool’s encounter against Spurs, escaping without a red despite making a number of clumsy tackles. Meanwhile, Erik Lamela proved similarly tenacious for the home team and subsequently received his fourth caution of the campaign, placing him at risk of missing the North London derby in Gameweek 12. Spurs and Man City are the only two teams with one than one player on this week’s Tightrope, with both sides affording us two apiece.

Finally, Claudio Yacob – a midfield lynchpin for a West Bromwich Albion outfit that ranks joint-top for clean sheets (five) this term – entered the referee’s notebook for the third time in four outings, earning him caution number four for the campaign.

In terms of new suspensions, Dwight Gayle received his marching orders for two soft yellows during Crystal Palace’s 3-1 home defeat to West Ham United yesterday. The Eagles frontman was dismissed with the score level at one apiece late in the first-half and, post-match, manager Alan Pardew reckoned the decision was a little unjust:

“Our striker gets booked for a bad challenge, quite rightly. The second challenge, the referee knows he’s booked, he’s missed it by a centimetre probably and he sends him off. I thought a man of his experience perhaps should have looked at that situation and given him his final warning. I’m not excusing him from complete blame. The second challenge, he shouldn’t make. He’ll have to learn from that. Having said that, I still think it was very harsh to send him off.”

The 5.1-priced Gayle – who has started the last three outings up top – now sits out the Eagles’ trip to Leicester City next Gameweek, with Pardew likely to turn to Fraizer Campbell or Patrick Bamford if Connor Wickham fails to recover from injury in time. Given that he’s failed to net in five league appearances, Gayle may find it difficult to make an immediate return to the first XI in Gameweek 11.

Turning our attention towards players that have served their time, Eric Dier and Sebastian Coates – who toppled off the Tightrope last Gameweek – are available for selection next time out. The former will be hoping to reclaim his starting role in central midfield for the trip to Bournemouth, though Mousa Dembele staked a claim for another start with a man-of-the-match performance against Liverpool yesterday. Coates, meanwhile, will have to impress new manager Sam Allardyce to displace either Younes Kaboul or John O’Shea in central defence.

Jeremain Lens also makes a welcome return for the Black Cats, having fulfilled his duties and sat out their 1-0 loss at The Hawthorns. The Dutch midfielder – who has played a part in five of Sunderland’s eight league goals this season – could have a key part to play in the Wear-Tyne derby next Sunday as Big Sam welcomes his former club to the Stadium of Light.

Before the GW, I asked here who had been out of the team (out of form) would do very well during it and become next bandwagon. Costa, Bony, Kane, Hazard...

Some of you picked Bony. I got him for a hit and it paid of very well. Let me ask again.

Who will be the next one for the GW 10/ 11?? Kane, a Liverpool player, Hazard, Gomis?

Gomis hasn't done much wrong, just faced some strong defences lately.

I think Wijnaldum is a good pick tbh. Newcastle haven't done well so far due to a terrible run of fixtures but now their fixtures are great. Wijnaldum has gone under the radar so far (he notched a goal and assist against City and Chelsea just before this GW). He won't have another Tadic-esque explosive week, but I think he'll tick over very nicely over the next month or two.

      Mahrez→Wijnaldum on WC ? or

Been looking at Wijnaldum but Eriksen is also tempting who would you pick from these two as Mahrez 4th 5th midfielder ?

Wijnaldum had a fantastic goal scoring record for PSV and is showing his form in the premier league. Depay played well for PSV too but I think Wijnaldum's style is more compatible.

Wijnaldum. Eriksen is very frustrating to own, he'll go blanking for weeks and then suddenly get a brace. I don't think he's worth his current price tag.

so many options competing around that price range though.

Mane isn't too far off budget wise, lots of early Payet owners, Ayew also an outsider there.

I am tempted though. Not sure if I would pick him over the above 3 as a third mid...too expensive for 4th mid given Mahrez occupies that and Aguero return eventually.

Bringing this up again. Your opinions would be much appreciated.

So i've taken a few punts and they've all done fairly well so far this season. I see a real differential emerging and i'm willing to gamble. Especially after seeing Bournemouths defence and Tottenham's improving form.

Was earlier going to do Kolarov -> Coleman/Dier/Cedric but i'm now thinking i'll punt on Martial -> Kane (c).

Martial kind of playing POO makes this more tempting even though i'm expecting points from him. (Had the gut on Costa this week and it paid off)

      Kane was rubbish again though.

He's still not playing where he should be - rather than being in/around the box, he's constantly dropping deep to have more influence, offering himself as an option on the wings etc.

Watched his last few games, sometimes when a ball needs to be played up quickly or an early cross needs to go in...he's never there.

Don't get me wrong - he's not reverse OOP, but I feel he will kick on once he fecking stays in/around the box! Still getting shots off so that's encouraging for would-be or current owners.

Sit tight for a week! and look forward instead of back for transfers.

You have double TOT in defense which is OK but think about different ARS. ARS, SWA, SOT, EVE have better CS potential

Mids look super strong. Keep them. Next week several strong teams have tough outings. Don't worry, following week starts to look better for all your mids.

Forwards are good. If Studge doesn't deliver next week use FT on Vardy or Costa.

    In a different opinion,

    Butland McCarthy
    Bellerin Kolarov Francis Prodl Richards
    KDB Mane Payet Sanchez Westwood
    Costa Vardy Martial

Good time to do Kolarov -> Bertrand/Coleman/Smalling/Dier/Toby?

Anything else you would do? 1.9 in the bank and i was really tempted to do Martial -> Kane(c).

    Having second thoughts now.

I can't say I have, but knowing Kane he is due a brace. The times I've seen him play he's always in and around the box.

BOU(A) should be a good fixture for him. No pressure from home fans, and BOU in shambles at the back with injuries..

Don't see 3 defenders I'd want to play this week. Kolarov could be handy for Norwich following week though. Apart from Arsenel in two weeks I like looks of bringing in a Swansea defender instead of Toby/Dier

I would wait and see where Martial plays.

If he plays on the wings again, Kane(c) seems a good option. There's no way a 19 year old can handle the responsbility of lone striker for too long.

After we take hits, we very likely see a red arrow in the overall ranking?

I see in the history that whenever I have a "transfer cost", there is a down red arrow in the right most column- so far this season. Interestingly, when there is "0" transfer cost, I have a green arrow!

Hits before 3 GWs and 3 red arrows.. Other than those, green ones.

Just coincidence or is it the trend?

This GW, I took (-8) hit and went down in the OR (still have Ayew and Butland but will still see red), though the players I got in score a lot more than those I sold.

    Bony + Dawson + Pelle = 23 pts
    Aguero + Sagna + Jerome = 2 pts

Most of you here are against any hit.. I think it should be that way in general?

I'd sell him for only for KDB, but KDB has a tougher fixture, so no point selling him now.. if he's benched again in GW 10, i'll sell

G'day DZers! cracking games of rugby last night.

I moved early and did Kolorov --> Bellerin this week to avoid the price changes. As much as I love Kolorov, City have leaked goals of late and not sure what Clichy's return will mean for his future game time.

Am I good to go? Or do I need to take a hit for Mahrez or Mata?

    Myhill
    Williams, Bellerin, Alderweireld
    Mata, KDB, Sanchez (C), Mahrez
    Vardy, Pelle, Costa

    McCarthy; Francis, Westwood, Oxford

    2.8 in the bank

    DDG
    Zouma, Gabriel*, Janmaat, Evans, Morgan
    Hazard*, Sanchez, Mane, Mahrez, Westwood
    Costa, Gomis, Ayoze

    0ft 3.4 itb.
