Everton are set to be without Phil Jagielka for eight-to-nine weeks, according to Roberto Martinez. United’s Antonio Valencia is forced off with a foot problem, Bojan and Marc Muniesa are early doubts for Stoke’s cup encounter with Chelsea, whilst Harry Kane reveals he’s been playing with a knee knock in recent outings..

Arsenal
Per Mertesacker sat out Arsenal’s home tie against Everton due to illness. In his press conference earlier today, though, Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the German international has now recovered and will be available for selection when the Gunners lock horns with Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup tomorrow.

Crystal Palace
Pape Souare was sidelined due to injury for the Eagles’ 1-0 defeat at Leicester City, according to the club’s official website. At present, no word has been given on the severity of his complaint.

Everton
Phil Jagielka faces around two months in the treatment room after damaging medial ligments in his knee during the second half of Everton’s trip to Arsenal. Earlier today, Roberto Martinez rolled out an update on the centre-back, who has been the only defender to start every league match for the Toffees so far this term:

“The medial ligament is affected and it’s an injury that is quite straightforward. It’s hard to tell [how long he will be sidelined for]. The medial ligament depends on what area there is damage to determine how quickly you can recover. At the moment we are going to make sure he gets the right course of treatment. I wouldn’t expect anything longer than eight to nine weeks. There is no other damage to the meniscus or the cartilage. The cruciates [ligaments] are very strong. After the game, we expected the worst especially the way the injury happened and rotating the knee – it could have been anything”

Manchester United
Louis van Gaal revealed that Antonio Valencia sustained a foot injury in the first half of the Manchester derby and was eventually forced to withdraw at the 81-minute mark, making him a doubt for the Red Devils’ home encounter against Middlesbrough in the League Cup:

“He had a kick on his foot in the first half and then I let Darmian warm up on the touchline. But then he played further. However, at the end, he could not continue.”

Newcastle United
Jack Colback is set to be assessed by the Magpies’ medical staff after leaving Wearside on crutches after he was forced off early in the second period due to a hefty challenge from Lee Cattermole. Regardless, Colback picked up his fifth caution of the season at the Stadium of Light, ruling him out of the Toon’s home fixture against Stoke City next weekend.

Norwich
Canaries frontman Dieumerci Mbokani – who has netted in two of the last three Gameweeks – is a minor doubt for the midweek cup trip to Everton due to illness, manager Alex Neil has revealed:

“I think Dieumerci Mbokani has picked up a little bug, flu-type thing, so he has to shake that off but other than that the rest of the squad is fine. Potentially that could rule him out but we’ll see how he recovers from it.”

Stoke City
Geoff Cameron had to be replaced nine minutes into Stoke’s head-to-head with Watford after damaging his thigh while challenging Troy Deeney for possession. Mark Hughes initially expected the US international to be missing for a couple of weeks but rolled out a more positive prognosis this afternoon:

“It looks like a grade one tear so hopefully he might have a chance for the weekend.

Hughes also confirmed that the Potters have a couple more concerns ahead of their midweek cup clash against Chelsea, with Marc Muniesa and Bojan looking doubtful:

“Marc Muniesa has got a slight (thigh) problem, but we are likely to give him another 24 hours. Bojan has an issue with his toe. He’s got a really bad blister on it and it’s hampering him, so we will have to see if it settles down.”

Sunderland
Sam Allardyce is counting the cost of yesterday’s derby win over Newcastle with the Black Cats nursing injury concerns over a trio of players. After the 3-0 triumph, the Sunderland boss conceded he’s sweating on the fitness of John O’Shea, Younes Kaboul and Ola Toivonen:

“John has got a hamstring. Ola did his groin and Younes Kaboul has a calf problem. The only disappointing thing for us was the three injuries. We will have to see how they are for next week. We may get one out of the three fit. I won’t be sure until two or three days into this week and these injuries have settled down.”

Tottenham Hotspur
Harry Kane had heavy strapping on his knee during Spurs’ win over Bournemouth and midweek Europa League meeting with Anderlecht, having suffered a minor knock against Liverpool in Gameweek 9. The Lilywhites’ premier frontman insisted that the strapping is just a precautionary measure and he’ll be at 100% when Villa pay a visit to White Hart Lane next Monday:

“I’m not far off. It was a little niggle I picked up against Liverpool and we didn’t want to risk it midweek. The manager makes his decisions about who plays. I was fully fit for the Bournemouth game and I was always going to be playing. That showed with the performance. The strapping on the knee is a precaution. We haven’t got a game until next Monday now so by then it should be 100 per cent.”

Not a bad outfit at all. You could defo save that FT. I think I would ship Costa for Kane, perhaps. That would probably be the only thing I would consider with that team.

Cheers, yeah the general consensus from everyone is to bring Kane in.

It's a hair kneejerky, but I just know in my case that I got sick of Costa real fast. Chelsea on the whole are a crap team to hitch your FPL horse to at the moment.

Ohhh you! Ha. I still think Chelsea as a team are up in the air and seeing them struggle to score against West Ham confirms it.

Think Kane has received a confidence boost so will expect him to go into this weekend in a totally different mindset

When you get knocked out the LMS league, will you just not be part of the league anymore of the leagues page? Is there a spreadsheet to go with it I hear of?

Got 2 FT 0.7ITB and would like some inspiration for transfers this week.

      Fabianski / Games

      Kompany / Bellerin / Dier / Zouma / Dawson

De Bruyne / Sanchez / Payet / Mata / Mahrez

      Pelle / Vardy / Ayoze

My current thinking is Mata to Mane, Mahez to Barkley. Mata seems to have limited minutes and I don't fancey double Leicester now. Barkley has great fixtures and Mane looks impressive with BOU sun STO coming up.

Does anyone have any other ideas or spot any other priorities I should be looking at? Thanks

Darmian -> Moreno for a hit? Seems like he's dropping 0.1 tomorrow and very big rotation risk with Valencia (depending on injury)

Moreno has very tough fixtures, i'd wait 3 GWs before bringing him in. His price shouldn't go up much considering the tough games Liverpool has.

Just something I have to get off my chest

Vardy - yes he is doing well, yes he has form, but I think it's ridiculous to say you have to have him especially on wc. He is certainly doing well, but Mahrez has tended to outscore him most weeks both have played full matches and he can;t continue to score every game

Is he a great option? yes

Is he a must have? Not IMO when the likes of Lukaku, Pelle, Bony, Kane all have great fixtures and someone like Ighalo looks great value. So for me, he's out I want to see if Lukaku can finally come good and Bony looks ideal as a Kun placeholder.

So basically what you're saying is

Nobody else apart from Vardy will ever score a goal?

No, but how many strikers in that price range are going to score as many goals as him with THAT consistency?

yes I agree he's great value if you got on early but he won't score every week, that is my point, at some point he will blank again

My point is I didn't get him till this GW. I think it's perfectly possible to go without

I just get really frustrated by the herd mentality on here that automatically dismisses offhandishly anything that goes against the established norm in the way that you just did

Not even Aguero or Costa are going to score every week, not even Sanchez. And they're much much more expensive.

I didn't tell you that you should have Vardy no matter what but your post was very naive, as if you were trying to convince yourself that you wouldn't be making the wrong decision by selling him. You're free to do that, obviously, there's nothing wrong with gambling a little bit.

I agree about the herd thing, but the reason it is a herd thing is that he has proven himself against all oppositions and with backing stats. You are trying too hard to find fault, you can easily go without Vardy tbh, just do it without posting the op. Not being sarcastic, just the expected replies you must have known even before posting.

I'll give you a case in point

for last GW I said I was looking at a punt before wc and was thinking about Kane (c)

The response i got was "you don't have Vardy, just get Vardy you idiot" or words to that effect

Of course I listened. How did that turn out. Just because a lot of people say something doesn't make it the only possible answer.

FPL is based on luck, not a million of Doosra's tables would predict future occurrences as you very well realise. People are just commenting based on what evidence they currently have.

Fpl is not based on luck. It's not the national lottery. You may as well say that real football management is about luck...

Ah, am not saying it is 100% luck. But there is surely no statistical model which allows you to win it assuredly?
I know you already understand my point, let's not drag this down.

Also, over the season, statistics help in performing well, but in a given week or match, it is nearly all luck. Accent on the 'nearly'

You are overreacting. I just said you formally do not need to take out a player who is scoring every week. By this logic you would take out even Kun or Kane last season no?
To each his own way of playing but your suggestion is trying to justify your gut feel without any basis. You could still be right, but it would be without any basis.

No the Torresmagic guy is right. Hitting the WC button will result in his hits being wiped off and his points reinstated. It also means his transfers will count towards player rises/falls whereas they don't when you make them after hitting the WC button.

for the price yes, still a great option. a striker clocking up 6pts a week regardless of fixture, is just as good a streaky player who gets 12pts in every two, or 18 in every 3.

Solid points every week is the ideal. If you had 11 players scoring 6pts every week that would be enough to win the whole thing.

I don't think anyone is essential. However, at 6.0 to start and to be tied for second highest scorer is well worth the money. Having Vardy also allows you to have another premier mid or fwd without sacrificing quality.

Slightly more understandable to sell him for the next six to nine weeks where he is coming up against a lot of expensively assembled teams, if you paid 7.0 and won't lose TV, but you'll probably regret not having him for the Newcastle game in GW13.

He could quite easily score in quite a few of the more difficult games as well though, Arsenal couldn't keep him out and, though I hate to say it, I think he'd score against Chelsea in the form they're in right now.

So then your point is specific to you, and the price that you were forced to pay. At c.6M the guy has been a steal.

I accept its a tougher decision to purchase him now, but he's still scoring like a premium striker.

But Lukaku, Pelle, Bony, Kane all cost considerably more and have considerably worse underlying statistics http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/11658258.

Kane has Arsenal away, Chelsea at home and West Brom away in next 5, hardy great fixtures.

Bony is a risk as he has far infereior underlying stats to Pelle, Kane and Vardy, what's more he's only good for the short term until Agüero comes back.

Mahrez creates more chances than Vardy when on the pitch but has less shots on target and is a huge rotation risk.

Why take the risk on players that cost more when you have a consistent player outperforming them with better underlying statistics that costs less?

Lol . I was on 3-5-2 . But its been costing me big. Going back to 3-4-3 , makes the Kun comeback a little easier.

Think will be Sanch, Kdb , Mane and Mahrez, 4.3

Is this on WC or any FTs?

I think you need to drop one of your keepers to a £4m in order to upgrade Burke. But usually running with two premium (£5.5m+) defenders, one £5m, and two £4.5m should see you through alright

Thanks

Your post about Bony got me thinking. Think I would maybe prefer having KDB and Sterling over KDB and Bony. Bony does seem to enable those two the space to run on and get into goalscoring positions. And if Bony scores, it is likely one of those two to assist anyway

Main point was Yaya was an absolute fail @ no 10. V fodder Bony & Sterling should play in a 4-2-2-2 with KDB and Navas/Sterling in midfield. (this was very successful 2 weeks ago where Sterling played off the last man and Bony looked to put him through on goal).

I would personally drop Yaya as he clearly isn't fit, but v fodder Pellegrini maybe tempted to put him back in the engine room.

I'd say Sterling Bony and KDB are all good options over the next 2.

with Valencia probably out with a foot injury, Darmian is back in

      ........................Butland
      .........Kolarov - Darmian - Bellerin
Mahrez - De Bruyne - Sanchez - Payet
      ..............Pelle - Martial - Vardy

      McCarthy; Sinclair, Richards, Williams

      4.1m itb, 1 FT

looking at one of the following:
      A) save
      B) Sinclair > Wanyama: remove him and be done with it. frees up 0.5m
      C) Butland > De Gea: then eventually remove Darmian for Alderweireld/VvD
      D) Richards > VvD

All good options but tempted most by A (to service B next week). D also looks good but I don't think I would even play him this week given my defense which would seem like a bit of a waste.

Does anyone else feel Chelsea's performances have been way better in the last two matches? I, for one, dont think Mou deserves to be sacked. Definitely deserves a season or maybe more. Their solidarity looks to be coming back. The only thing that irritates me is the antics Mou is upto. They are getting worse by the day. However feel he's the right man and there's too many people out there waiting for him to fail.

Your a worried and bitter chelsea fan thats trying to justify Chelseas demise and awful form. Take the rose tinted glasses off and you will see what every body else does. A team that is struggling week in week out and performing badly. Will do well to get top 4.

I'm not at all justifying the performances. There are too many people out there who want Mou out and which is no doubt caused by his antics. But much of it is unwarranted. Frankly top 4 would be a big achievement this season. As a fan, I've watched all games and feel there has been a big improvement on the defensive front in the last two games.

        This.

I have seen the performances, and we have been doing well. Matic lost his head, if it was 11 vs 11, I am sure we would have won the game.

I can see us coming back for real, not just for the fixtures sake, but looking at the performances.

It's just that the players need to own up, Mourinho can't go out on the field and prevent individual mistakes in games.

I'm worried with Hazard's average position getting deeper every week. When he is further up the field he is a great out ball and they can really hurt other teams but now he is having to defend more they are really struggling.

I don't feel as if they have turned any corner or made up any ground recently. They are still reeling terribly, in my opinion. Something is very much wrong in that camp. Mourihno seems to be losing the plot more and more with each passing GW, and I don't really see any of this changing in the near future. To go from Champs who never lost the top spot on the table last season to this utter and complete farce of a franchise is beyond alarming. Not sure Mou has done anything to warrant his sticking around. I definitely agree with you on his antics being irritating. It's not working, whatever he is trying to do.

Mou has done pretty much enough to warrant his sticking around. Letting him go for the performances is wrong. For his antics maybe. But just for a bad season doesn't bode well.

He has done a lot at and for the club in the past. But, this is now, and he is a dumpster fire. This is more than just a bad season. It's a complete debacle. An embarrassment for team and fans. When nobody in the world can explain what the heck is going on there, I think it's more than justifiable to give the manager his packing orders. The notion of sacking him should and could be a bit fearful for fans, because of what once was. But, if we always hold onto the past, we can so often lose sight of the present.

I agree you can't hold on to the past. But, give the man a season at minimum? Its pretty harsh to remove him after 1/4th of a season. Agreed its a shambolic season so far. At least give him a season.

Yeah. Perhaps. If I were the owner, I would at the very least discuss the situation and give him some kind of ultimatum. Turn things around or get out come May. I don't know, man. Like Costa did with his antics, he just needs to tone it down. It's just all so absurd.

no.. they would be better to get rid imo... only as long as the team is successful on the pitch and he's putting trophies in the cabinet can he get away with his behaviour. fans and owner will turn a blind eye.. there is a a side to him that is seriously unpleasant whether its gouging the eyes of opposing coaches verbally insulting female members of staff while they do their job infront of millions of tv viewers and the attitude he displays to the press the FA on a regular basis.. he has never proved he can sustain success for more than 2 or 3 seasons anywhere so questions have to be asked as to why that is..

Getting rid shouldn't be an option imo. Agree with most of your points except the FA part. However we'll save that debate for another day. Fair enough in that case. Also as you said you were planning for Kun, that gives you some leeway. Do keep in mind that Vardy is still cheaper than the other guys, they only question is will he keep up with the bigger boys, Pelle, Lukaku et al.

But I think Mahrez may be more dispensible as there's Vardy
