With clean sheets proving hard to come by for many teams, Goal Threat from the back is an ever-crucial facet when eyeing up Fantasy defensive options.

In this latest article for Members, we focus on defenders who have played four or more league games this season, selecting the top ten performers and, when applicable, compare their stats to last term’s in order to ascertain whether there’s been an improvement or a drop in their offensive threat…

Comments on the below would be much appreciated guys:

    Vorm (Given)
De Laet, Bosingwa, Kompany (RTaylor, Simpson)
Ramsey (V), Wright-Philips, Arteta, Young, Silva
    Rooney (C), Sturridge (Adebayor)

Made two transfers: took out Dyer and put in Ramsey and took out Ballotelli and put in Sturridge.

Decent squad bro. I envy your squad...minus the fact that you have arteta AND ramsey?? Overkill maybs? Arteta will play more behind Ramsey so I'm not sure if he'll have as much influence up front. Maybe do Arteta out, someone else in? Petrov?

Not sure about Arteta and Ramsey in the same team - Ramsey has not been playing great and with Song back Arteta should be more involved. I would go for Petrov over Ramsey, although keeping hold of Dyer is not a bad move either (he provides a good threat for 4.5m). Ballotelli is fit and will definitely start against Villa - so I would hold him for one more GW

Which players worth it on the long run?

    A) Mata, Aguero, Adebayor, Tiote

I want A long term but am currently sitting on B...do you think I will be able to afford A in a couple of weeks?? That's when I want to put my long term squad in, for a four point hit. I'm over a hundred points above second place in both my mini leagues, so guess point hits are not a problem for me 🙂

I would move towards your long term team now i.e. do a strategic transfer each week (you must stay disciplined though as its easy to pick someone else who is flavour of the month). I don't think a points hit, regardless of how many points you are ahead is a good idea as the season is a long one and those 100 points may come into handy if you fall upon hard times (even if only for one GW) buddy

    A. Do nothing and hope Ade and VDV are injured and get a New CS
    B. DeLaet to Tierney/Barnett and play him over Saylor

I just don't see what Moses adds tbh. I had him at the start too but I just don't think he's a player which gets the points due to the fpl scoring system. Apart from that, I think your squad is fine and you don't really need to make any major changes.

    Two questions.

Should I keep Aguero or Adebayor for the next few weeks?

Is it worth a 4 point hit to transfer in Ramsey and Sturridge for Tiote and Aguero/Adebayor?

    Would appreciate any suggestions.

      1) Tough call, I'd keep Ade because Spurs will have a DGW at some point and have marginally better fixtures over the next few weeks.

      2) I'd get Sturridge this week considering your injury issues. Gambling on Ramsey to make up the 4pts is a risk. Do it if you have another transfer you need to make next week but otherwise save it for then (unless you fancy a gamble this week)

Sturridge. Getting a 1st choice forward (assuming he stays 1st choice) at a top 3 club for 6.6m is a bargain. I'd expect him to score very well for his price providing he gets enough minutes. Can't see Agbon keeping it up all season.

Just think that the ESPN bonus has changed the whole dynamic this season. Ivanovic was not an obvious pick last season as the occasional goal did not compensate for a lack of bonus points. Now we're all chasing goals and assists. Holding midfielders or playmaking defenders have no chance.

Frankly, this whole 'Rooney thing' demonstrates a/the major weakness of England (and to a lesser extent, United) = They can't play without him.

Why did Capello play him when only one point was needed from the game? Why not play Welbz and Agbonlahor or somesuch?

      > Because England is essentially a one-man team.

Why was he still playing even 71 minutes into the match?

      > Because England felt that he was essential.

It's too bad - as a non-English fan, I think England *could* be good enough to beat Montenegro without a guy who clearly was important to the team (in the future) and possibly screwed in the head from his Dad and Uncle being pinched.

I guess we'll see if the three games make England learn to live/play without the Wazza as talisman ...

        Sense.

Still doesn't really take away from the fact that Rooney should be able to play the 90 minutes without being randomly sent off for one of the most stupid kicks ever.

True, of course. But flagrant outbursts when frustrated are a Rooney hallmark.

Ultimately, as petulant and stupid his act was, I see the whole thing as Capello's failure. Evidently Fabio believed England wasn't good enough without him ... felt that he should continue playing the whole game ... and didn't consider how the lack of success would affect him as the game wore on.

          Embarrassment all around.

I see your point, but Rooney plays 90 minutes every week for Utd, and doesn't get taken off when we're winning just in case he gets himself sent off.

I think the 3 game ban is a bit harsh, it wasn't in any way dangerous, just stupid, 2 games would have sufficed.

Different team, better manager (esp. at man-management), different dynamic (club vs. country). And SAF usually manufactures a calf strain, hammy strain, or ankle knock to give the boy time to get his head right.

I don't know ... it just seems so utterly futile to have played him in the first place. For gosh sake, the US team could have beaten England ... you guys really need a better fit for a manager ...

And 3 games is an absolute joke, I agree.

It's only his 2nd red in 70+ internationals - imagine the press reaction if Rooney hadn't played and England had lost. I'm not Capello's biggest fan, but the problems with English football at international level go a lot deeper.

Del Bosque is hardly the greatest manager ever, but he works with players who have been coached properly since they were kids.

Usually put £2-5 quid down on a few matches each weekend. Depends If I think the odds are good.

Last season I probably lost around £30-40. This season I'm up about £45. You'll inevitably lose in the long run, but it makes the games more interesting.

The way I see it, If I lose £10, it's no more than what I would have spent if I went out to see the match in the pub instead of sitting at home. If I win £10, then I can get three pints in at the next game. flawless logic 😛

Obviously not worth an 8 point hit, especially as you want Aguero back.

SWP might do well this week. Aguero may not start but it now seems likely he'll be in the squad for Villa so he might come on and get a goal.
