Sometimes, even those Fantasy managers who factor in form above all else are forced to revise their approach by the machinations of the Premier League fixture computer.

One of those sometimes is now.

Everton’s run of opponents, right up until the end of the year, is nothing short of extraordinary.

Beginning with the weekend’s Goodison Park meeting with struggling Sunderland, Roberto Martinez’s men avoid all of last season’s top eight clubs between Gameweek 11-19.

Sunday’s encounter is the first of five home matches in a run that has Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Leicester City and Stoke drop in on Merseyside. Around the home comforts, the Toffees travel to face West Ham, Bournemouth, Norwich and Newcastle – a less than daunting menu of away trips.

Suddenly, Fantasy managers are scanning Martinez’ squad and attempting to decipher the key targets and the optimum time to draft them in.

In this latest article for members, we’ll attempt to tackle this subject head on. Firstly, by analysing Everton’s current form in detail, before assessing their major performers and weighing up the merits of investment ahead Saturdays Gameweek 11 deadline.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Is he 5.5?

      If so get on VVD and have potential goals is better.

      If 5.0 a fair shout. I guess with Aguero cash we are flush so getting the defender in is available

      He's decent, but seeing as Saints attack trumps their defence this season, I'd rather have 3 soton mids and atts than waste one spot for Maarten (soory Maarten!)
      But if you think he has CS potential the coming week, Go for it! 🙂

    Bego McCarthy

    Kolarov Darmian Monreal Williams Saylor

    KdB(Vc) Ozil Ayew Mahrez Kouyate

    Pelle Kane(C) Vardy

    1FT and 1.5 itb. Going all out attack with darmian n kolarov at the back

    Kouyate --> Hererra (i dont have enough united cover) or is there any better option?

    My team:

    Myhill
    Kolarov Bellerin Dawson
    Sanchez Mahrez DeBruyne(c) Eriksen Payet
    Pelle Vardy

    Bench: McCarthy Ighalo Cresswell Azpilicueta
    Thinking of playing the "All out attack" card to bring in Ighalo
    Good decision?
    Also, which defender should I take out?
    Thinking Dawson as Wenger might hand Bellerin a role out in the flanks.

          Its close. I personally like Yaya, consistent, pens for the next few weeks? Stering less appealing if Silva back. You have explosive in in Mane. KDB and Sanchez are kind of both!

            Yeah, it's very close. Sterling way more advanced and may well play right up with Bony until Kun is back. His minutes are an issue though and like you say, Yaya has pens. I fancy City to hammer Norwich and Villa so have a feeling this one could be a huge decision.

      What about Ozil and Vardy? I prefer Vardy to Mahrez now. I think Ozil is a steadier stream of points this year. Leaves third City spot open for Kun.

        Yeah I like Ozil long term, just feel like Yaya/Stering (NOR, avl) have way more upside over Ozil (swa, TOT) over the next 2. When Kun is back then I'd look at a Yaya/Sterling -> Ozil to free up that 3rd MCY slot.

          Fair enough. If short term, Sterling is the higher risk / higher reward play, I think. He would be my pick if only talking two weeks. Even with pens for Yaya.

              The 1.2m cash could come in useful as well - opens up Kane, Giroud in a few weeks and/or helps raise the cash for Kun when he is back.

              But Mahrez is a slightly risky fourth mid. I would prefer the security of starts for Vardy.

              Bony is a great shout for two weeks, though. Just leaves you in a spot where both Bony and Mahrez might have to go if you can't rely on Mahrez starting (which is now a legit concern). Seems slightly too short-term for me if on a wildcard.

              Your team looks great, btw. Go with your gut. I know you have done that with great success in the past!

                Yeah Mahrez is a concern. Bony and Barkley would certainly be playing the fixtures, but I'm not sure about a double up on EVE attack. You think that's a viable option, or better to stick with one of the LEI lads despite fixtures?

    Regarding VVD vs Coleman as Captain fantastic questioned a few pages back: In my view, they are not as close as they appear. Although goals conceded is the most obvious indicator of a teams defensive ability. I think when you're comparing two teams, underlying stats are key to hint towards future behavior (coupled with fixtures obviously). Since you're not a member, I'd check out Squawka & WhoScored for Opta stats regarding big chances conceded, shots in the box conceded & shots on target conceded. They're arguably the best metrics to compare defenses along with xGC (expected goals conceded).

    For members, regarding their goal threat: http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/public-stats-tables/view/1026/ - a clear winner here when it comes to actual goal threat & presence in the box. Obviously Coleman as a full-back will naturally have more take-ons to get a cross in, but even then he's weak in terms of chance creation in comparison to VVD and fullbacks. His shot accuracy is way lower than VVD's as well, with only one shot on target all season & that was from 30 yards out. So individually Coleman is lacking in terms of sheer goal threat, with VVD the clear winner quadrupling his shots on target (which not to mention have been from dangerous areas inside the box).

    Though it goes w/o saying Coleman's had to play vs (WAT, sou, MCI, tot, CHE, MUN, ars), way more potent attacks & naturally one would think Martinez has contained him & asked for him to stay at the back more often in those matches. You could certainly hypothesize that Coleman may get the go ahead now to really emphasize on his marauding runs down the right & give him more leeway to help out in attack & linger more frequently. He's pretty low on the list here even - http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/public-stats-tables/view/10212/

    Vs VVD, who's played (wba, MUN, SWA, che, LEI, liv), now these are also tough matches. Yet, not as tough as Everon's. Nevertheless VVD has already scored two goals vs two of the weakest defenses in those fixtures (SWA, LEI). While Coleman's only registered an assist vs (sou).

    As a unit, the underlying stats are nearly all in favor of the Saint's.though: http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/public-stats-tables/view/6810/ - although in certain areas Everton are close, overall their number's are pretty weak. But that table aside, the team comparison tool is where more extremes are highlighted, here is where Saint's dominance is shown. With Saints having pretty equal SiTB conceded in comparison to shots outside the box with only 10 more SiTB. On the other hand, Everton not only boast more shot attempts conceded overall, they've conceded 40 more SiTB as opposed to outside.

    That is an argument for the quality of chances both teams have conceded, which although both are nearly equal for big chances conceded, it's the xGA that really points out Everton's woes in the box. ( https://public.tableau.com/profile/paul.riley#!/vizhome/PremierLeague201516xGMap/PremierLeague201516ShotonTargetxGDashboard ) You'll see that Everton are in the bottom eight for xGA while Saints are in the top four. Drastic differences there.

    Now obviously Everton's tough fixtures are in part to blame for their defensive woes & underlying stats, but the lack of Jagielka is another variable to consider. They have an easy run-in, as do Saints, so perhaps it may not be too monumental of a shift in expected performance. Yet, still a lingering worry as they've even conceded to weak opposition in easy fixtures thus far (recently Norwich).

    In conclusion, due to a similar run-in, better direct goal threat, better defensive unit overall & less questions arising regarding centre-backs (or lack there of), VVD would be my preferred option here by far.

      There's a nice video on Youtube which shows all of Van Djiks Goals/assists last season.. 3 goals were from direct freekicks(JWP and Tadic have taken those ahead of him) and apart from 2 goals the rest were due to the ball being allowed to BOUNCE in the box from the corner which is rarely allowed to happen in the EPL. Great player but i've a feeling ppl are going overboard.. Last game for eg. Bertrand's stats may not show it but he passed the eye test with flying colours and spent a LOT of time in the attacking third. even the commentator mentioned Bertrand's license to attack. Still think VVD is a great option but the hype on here is spectacularly high

        The hype is warranted IMO, at least more so than Coleman as I alluded to here 😉

        Fact of the matter is he's still one of the most active defenders from corners or SP's and way more so than Coleman overall & in open-play.

    Defence is a problematic area now with Huth, Evans, Gabriel, Francis and Oxford.

    Is it worth taking a -4 hit for Francis to Stones or even a further -4 hit (total -8) ditching Evans for someone like Van Dijk?

            Going forward I think they will keep less CSs than Soton imo. But that is just my gut feel. Their defence had not settled since the injuries started. Even though Kompany is back now, other positions keep on changing, so I think Arsenal and Soton defence will outperform them over the next 10 fixtures.

                  As I said, gut feel. City have performed well till now, they still will, but not more CSs than Soton in the immediate future. But that is without any stats backing me, just my gut feel due to above reason of changing personnel in defence.

        AOA is no good for DGW imo.

        It's the triple captain and bench boost chip and the second wildcard that'll be useful, assuming there will be 3 DGWs at the first place, it might as well be 2.

      Moreno looks like he is loving the freedom given to him under Klopp. Obviously Dawson is a threat at set pieces, but I don't think either are likely to get a clean sheet, so I would go for Moreno based purely on attacking potential throughout the game (and Chelsea's continued issues in defence). That being said, I have Zouma, so I am hoping for an improvement!

    Right. So after much thought. And delay, I've done Martial to Kane. Very tough as I like Martial and fixtures are pretty good. But no denying Kane's form or stats or role in the team. Not getting rid of Vardy or Pelle so..

    Is there any news on Baines? Quite like the idea of an EVE defender but am loathed to pay 5.5 or above. Galloway at 4.5 could be a snip if we can get 3-4+ games out of him. I doubt Baines will be rushed back given the length of time he's been out.

        He'd be my 4th defender so yeah, a tad risky. Am toying with a triple MCY attack WC team. If Galloway can cover Moreno for his few tricky fixtures then it could be a winner. Thoughts?

        Gomes, Hennessey
        Bellerin, VVD, Moreno, Galloway, Simpson
        Sanchez, KDB, Mane, Sterling, 4.3
        Pelle, Lukaku, Bony

        It's just too hard to predict Everton, isn't it?

        Their fixtures are against defensively weak sides though, there should be goals in those games I think. It's anyone's guess which Everton side would turn up for each of those games though.

        Spurs, on the other hand, have been really consistent.

          I have both and going KDB(C). I just think ManC will score more than Sot, and KDB is likely to be involved with KUN and Silva out

        also benching mahrez. its either play him against my wba cover or play wijnaldum against butland. i trusted butland over myhill last week and it let me down hard.

      Depends on how you see the game going. I don't see too many goals from LEI so I'm benching Mahrez.

      Of the two I'd bench Mahrez but I'm benching A.Ayew this week.

    and also.. would you line up like this?

    Stekelen
    Janmaat Darmian Stones
    KDB Sterling Mane(c) Sanchez
    Vardy Pelle Lukaku

    Delefeou Nyom Moreno.

    my punt is that ill probs play Delefeou ahead of Vardy

            i like my defence alot. only thing im worried about is darmians gametime. if i was to trade him it would probs just be to smalling

        I'd play Moreno ahead of Darmian. Not worried about game time?

            I think they will both concede. But Moreno can get you some attacking returns. I am playing him ahead of Dawson, not sure it is right though..

    Hi guys. Got 2Ft and 4.4 in the bank and this is my team...

    Myhilll - Ruddy
    Muniesa - Williams - Richards - kompany - Francis
    Mahrez - Westwood - Sánchez - De bruyne - Payet
    Vardy - Pele - Martial

    I am definitely doing Muniesa -> van dijk
    But a bit torn for my 2nd transfer... Do I change another
    A.defender
    B.attacker?
    C.take a -4 and do both

    If A....
    1. Richards -> smalling
    2. Richards -> coleman
    3. Richards -> Alderwereld
    4. Richards -> bellerin

    if B.....
    1. Martial -> Lukaku
    2. Martial -> Kane
    3. Martial -> Bony

    I know the defence needs work but worried about missing out on attack points.
    Thoughts please?

    A. Westwood to Mane (have Pelle)
    B. Westwood to Yaya (have KDB)
    C. Ighalo to Kane
    D. Ighalo to Bony

    Initial thoughts; C or D tempting, but selling Ighalo just doesn't make sense, does it? Gotta have him anyway, when Kun is back. So, I'm left with A or Bwith great fixtures coming up...

    Your pick? Thanks.

    Scholes: "I was at the derby on Sunday and Rooney's movement was brilliant but when he's playing in that team there's no one prepared to pass to him. I think after 20 minutes you'd be tearing you hair out. I played with some brilliant centre forwards and I don't think they could play in this team - the likes of Ruud van Nistelrooy, Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Teddy Sheringham.You don't get crosses into the box or midfielders looking for runs."

    He's got a point.

      Not sure on the brilliant bit but for sure LVG's philosophy does this.

      Apparently the half time stats for Man u in the cup were possession 70 odd%, corners 0 and shots on target 0. Awful
