I was looking at hall of fame players, they all had pretty similar teams: Butland Kolarov Payet Vardy Mahrez Pelle in most of them. I shouldn't have benched Mahrez lol

Not sure about Azpi at the moment. I've just shipped him.

So, I'm deffo saving this week, and going into the international break with 2FT, but I've already got a plan to spend them (dependent on Mane's performance againnst the Mackams).

    From this:

    Myhill - Butland
Kolarov - Bellerin - van Dijk - Moreno - Francis
Sanchez - de Bruyne - Payet - Mané - Mahrez
    Pelle - Vardy - Ighalo

    Kolarov > Ward
    Mané > Özil

Kolarov is a rotation risk now, and he's storing my Aguero cash after the purchase of VvD. I'm one easy transfer to Ageuro (for Pellè) from here.

    What do we think??

I think both are wasted transfers. Besides, I'm pretty confident those plans will change.

      1. Jøssy ⭐
        • 11 Years
        10 years, 1 month ago

Appreciate your views mate. Wasted why?

The Kolarov one is going to happen at some point to free up the Aguero cash (and since Clichy is back). Ward has some really nice fixtures coming up, particularly the week I have Moreno v City.

The Özil one is prone to change and is something I've just contemplated this morning. I'm confident he's going to keep churning out points. Mane was bought long-term, but with easy fixtures in mind too. If he can't deliver against Bournemouth or Sunderland I'll be worried.

          Wasted why?

          - Kolarov is still delivering and Kun isn't back yet, hold fire
          - Mane still has the fixtures and the potential to carry on getting points, not time to sell yet

          The plans will change if

          - Kolarov gets a clean sheet again and/or attacking returns
          - Mane performs against Sunderland
          - Other issues arise that are clearly more urgent.

            Good summary mate. Cheers.

You're right on Aguero actually. Maybe I can be a little more patient with freeing up his cash.

As suggested below, maybe I can just get Ward in for Francis for the time being (again post-Internationals).

            Much appreciated

That's a great shout actually. I still need to free up the Aguero cash at some point, but maybe I'm doing that a little too soon Francis > Ward is a much better shout for the short term.

The Kun money is sitting in KDB, not kolarov. Wait for Kun to be fit and getting 90 min games before buying. There are 4 games within 10 days during Xmas, I'm sure Pelegrini will be wary not to let his star player break down again.

But longer term Kolarov won't be nailed will he? Much as we all wish he would be.

Dubious about getting rid of KdB. Plenty of time for that decision though in reality

Bellerin - van Dijk - Moreno

can cover Kolarov blanks quite easily. I'm agreeing with Christina now I've thought about it properly.

Cheers mate. I'm coming round to this for short (maybe longer) term.

I'm still nervous that Kolarov won't blank (which I could cover), he'll get 1 point cameos, which is a disaster for a premium slot.

This is a very good point and what I pointed towards when picking my wildcard squad. KdB -> Ayew/Lamela/Barkley/Cabaye/Willian allows me Bony -> Aguero which is really nice as there are so many options at that 7m price point who all look on the edge of breaking through as real FPL prospects soon.

I know what your saying, totally. I just think City have had one of the best defences so far this season when Kompany has been fit and if you have a strong enough bench to cover him if he misses a game or two he might be worth carrying for a bit longer.

Cheers mate. It's helped talking this through, because Aguero's not actually here yet, I can be a little more patient in freeing up his cash, and see how much longer I can get consistent starts from Aleks.

My concern, with regards to your 'decent backup' argument (because I believe I have it, is that he may come on 1 point cameos.

I always seem to get an urge to make reckless transfers so I came up with an idea.

Now I apologise if it is cheap way of playing.

I've made a secondary team with players that I don't have in my main team/punts that I think may be useful.

    Has anyone else done this?

no.. it's basically cheating. fpl may delete one of your teams if they find out.. hopefully it is not the "main" team that they delete

Yep. I wondered how long it would be before someone spotted that. All the Kane haters were going on about his fixtures being terrible. My decision to buy him last week was not casual, was not bandwagon and was not points chasing. It was very deliberate and thought through. It could backfire horribly of course - Petr Cech in particular is a big obstacle to overcome - but it'll be fun finding out!

Diva. Not sure if I can suggest some article ideas for your blog but here's a few anyway.

I'd like to see an article on players we could potentially consider selling in the near future. It could be like spotting a trend before its really obvious.

I'm looking at KDB and Mane right now and even though no one is seriously considering selling them now, I think we are beginning to be alerted by their recent lack of returns. I'd be interested in seeing some articles geared towards selling players we daren't sell yet.

From memory, when I looked at KDB' shooting stats he was taking a lot from range and had struck with them. I haven't looked recently but I wouldn't be surprised if those long-range conversions tailed off a bit.

Hi Ryan. Thanks for the suggestion. I think I began moving in that direction with the weekend Vardy post. And the idea got another boost after I posted a link on here to one of Doosra's tables and it prompted another member to say they were changing their transfer plans to keep someone. I also realised I hadn't done much on midfielders recently because are midfields have been relatively settled. In short: yes, it'll probably happen - or something similar. The international break could be a great time for a stock take.

Yep, I found that Vardy piece really interesting. Would be great to see the settled (template) midfield looked at in closer detail and put under scrutiny. Of course a Mahrez situation could occur but it works both ways. Perhaps we should stay patient or perhaps we should get rid.

Since i got rid of Payet(stats screamed regression in goal threat) he blanked and got an assist with no baps(king of baps before that) .. think he's definitely headed in the wrong direction. Mane was shifted out on the wing.. hope he goes back to playing in the hole soon 🙁 .. I've got KDB and Yaya and getting rid of one after the international break.. would love to read an article regarding KDB!

Without going into stats, I must say I didn't like what I saw from KDB vs Norwich.(he was my cappy so maybe I was biased.) I'm hoping Silva will spark him to life again.

Silva will take on the creative role and KDB will take greater goal scoring responsibility I suspect. I guess we don't have enough data on this though. Just GW8

Payet was over performing shooting wise when I looked at him in September if I recall correctly. I brought him for his assists. As with KDB above, I haven't gone back to check recently but it would surprise me if he's still over-performing his underlying shooting stats.

Sure but he's done nothing in the last 3. Yes I'm keeping and he may even be my captain this week. However, I'm wondering if I'm being blinded by his success earlier in the season and I'm not spotting the more recent trend.

    Would really appreciate some advice/opinions!!!!

    2FT, 3.2M ITB

    Gomes
Bellerin - Cedric - Jones (UTD)
    Mane - Sanchez - KdB - Ayew
    Vardy - Pelle - Lukaku

Bench: Souare - Simpson - Ben Watson

    A) Ayew + Watson > Mahrez + Ozil
    B) Gomes +Watson > de Gea + Mahrez
    C) Gomes > de Gea
    D) Ayew > Ozil (bearing in mind Ayew has 2 tasty fixtures looking up)
    E) Save
    F) Other suggestions?

Why would you sell Gomes? he's been awesome and will be good for save points in the tough fixtures.

      D)

And don't save because you already have 2FT's and you can't collect more. By using just 1FT you are still saving the other.

Because he has bad fixtures looking up, plus the fact that De Gea is the cheapest way into Man U defence (and he's consistent unlike Jones)

    Great sporting week for kiwis.

Kiwi horse wins Melbourne Cuppy to avenge Auzzies stealing Pharlap.

I'm hoping the cricket team can backup the fantastic AB's performance at the RWC

I bloody well hope so, Ryan. So angry with those cheating lowlife aussies. Preparing sustandard warm up pitches and now Davey Dum Dum mouthing off against B - Mac.

        😡

Not too bothered by the abandoned warm up match. We were only using part time bowlers in the end.

I wasn't either but it's always good to slag the sledgers off. 😉

Never mind that, Santa - there's a cricket match to be won. We've been suffering for 34 years against the sledgers.

What's wrong with sledges? I have one.

You not impressed with my streak?

Sledges and sledgers are two different things, Santa.

So how has Tottenham's sudden amazing turnaround in defence happened?

This is Jan and Toby's 9th season playing together at club level and they've played about 40 internationals together...

Those 2 has been the main factor. Dier has performed pretty well along with Lloris.

Alli as well is such an upgrade on Bentaleb, they actually look very solid through the middle this year

Poch was a also good for the Southampton defence. I guess it sometimes takes a little while to pull things together. Also, Dier seems to be doing a better job in the middle of the park than some of the other players they had bought in to fulfil that role.

Yep I seem to remember a player interview in the off-season saying it took them 6 months to get to grips with his pressing system and by then they only had a few games left in the season.

Poch was strong defensively at Soton plus Dier screens well

Vert + Alder, but Dier Dembele Alli Eriksen are rock at the middle, all of them can defend to proctect the bacl, plus Lamela recently track back

After the international break apparently. Im saving my transfer this week, last international break decimated my squad. 🙁

Then I'd probably suggest shipping Galloway unless you're happy to make two defensive transfers in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks Diva, i am currently swaying that way too. But that means i will lose some value on Richards and only god knows if i will ever field him again
