Morning all. I could kiss Harry Kane after last night, looked set to be the worst ever MNF captain but came through in the end. 79 points and up to 16k, the season's getting real now!

I still got my 50/50 Kane v Lukaku wrong (unless Kane blitzes the next couple), but it feels like a victory after a last minute goal.

I think it probably will be, MNF at home to Villa swayed me (plus Everton's inconsistency). In hindsight, I wish I'd gone Lukaku.

    Sterling----->Mahrez worth it this week?

I realise Sterling has Villa but have a feeling Leicester will go big this weekend.

I own Bony, KDB, and Vardy as well if that makes a difference.

Selling Sanchez only takes 1 transfer to get Ozil in.
      The others take 2.
Tripling up really does limit options.

    A- Azpi > Rojo/Bellerin with a FT

So a few weeks ago we were all trying to deliberate between Martial, Lukaku, Pelle and Kane..

Who did you go for and would you deem it a success or failure?

I personally went for Pelle and although he's been outscored by Lukaku, I still feel like it was a good transfer.

Sorry mis-read. Went Pelle and Lukaku to go with Vardy. Happy enough

      10 years, 1 month ago

Avoiding Martial was a decent move. I assume everyone has Vardy, so my other two slots are Pelle and Kane. Kane I got purely on stats, Son being out etc. and paid off big time, blank in GW9 but decent returns since then.

Getting Pelle in was like returning to a work place I hate, I started with Pelle (and Mane) from GW1 and managed to sell both at the wrong time.

Lukaka does interest me though, but to be fair as long as your players actually look like scoring, stats wise/playing wise then patience is the key.

Got Kane in for what was meant to be a 3 game period Liv(H) Bou (A) Villa (H) anticipated a return to goal scoring form and got me 4.. happy enough to hold..

Got Lukaku in last week for Vardy im confident enough the big man will outscore him over next lot of weeks and made a good start at the weekend

Regarding Martial the price drops and blanks have been hard to take but firmly believe he will be back leading the line sooner rather than later and the goals will flow

Got Kane before Bou game and Lukaku before Sun ga,e so those two went great (also have Vardy for a while). Have a strict policy not to bring players who are not nailed on or will lose their spot when injured player gets back (exception is ofcourse king Kola) so i avoided Martial and Bony.

Happy with my front three and will probably ditch Kane when Kun get back (have money ITB for that).

Pelle. The transfer made sense, and still believe in it. More great fixtures coming up.

But at this stage I'd be deluded if I called it a success.

  8. Sharkytect

Several weeks back I suggested that Kane's first goal of the season was not only "lucky", but not actually that good a finish, and that I couldn't see it sparking a run of goals. Just a prediction, one of many made throughout the season, but it seems I was right on this one at the time.

Last night's goal was different. Sheer class. Lall laid in alongside him rather than in front, so he had to check his run and shoot facing sideways on to the goal. No time to take a second touch, only the keeper to beat but reasonably well positioned. He had to bury it in a corner and picked out the top corner perfectly.

The hattrick last week may have comprised of fairly fortunate goals (I know, I know, it's about being in the right position for these strikers) but I think after seeing last night's goal we will see a string of goals from the lad, even though we face a sequence of London derby's next.

Similar issue (replace Mane and Lukaku with Mahrez and Pelle), and I'm benching Ighalo.
      Leicester scoring hatfulls of goals.
Other option could be Payet, but West Ham will be looking to bounce back at home, and Everton are leaky at the back.

    Hi Guys

I'm slightly upset at my tinkering for last week's transfer- was considering Kane or Lukaku for Ighalo and in the end chose Kane! Bearing that in mind pls could you advise if any changes need on the following:

    Butland (Ruddy)
    Cedric Kol Williams (Aldeweireld, Francis)
    KDB Sanchez(C) Payet Mahrez
    Kane Pelle Vardy

    2.6ITB 1FT

    Few options:
    a) Kane back to Ighalo or Lukaku
    b) Sanchez to Ozil
    c) Something else
    d) No transfers

    Thanks in advance!

It's tough, I was on Sanchez just because it's the NLD, which has been kind to me in the past, but I'm not sure that's the logical choice. On Pelle at the moment, Sunderland are woeful.

Actually over the last four gameweeks Leicester are the most attacking team in the league. Most goal attempts over the last four. Third for shots in the box too.

But do I dare not follow your advice again regarding Leicester . 🙂

Watford over the last four are in the top six in terms of being miserly with conceding shots in the box. So I think you are right on this one. Happy to own Mahrez and Vardy but won't captain.

Aha it was slightly tongue in cheek suggesting Everton were one of the 3 best attacking teams in the league. I'd certainly play both of them, without a doubt, just not sure whether to captain. Watford managed a CS against West Ham, who have been one of the best attacking teams this season - I certainly don't think it will be a walkover for Leicester.

Ooft that's horrible. It's a bit of a lottery, I'd probably bench Payet but I wouldn't do it with any confidence against out leaky defence. Captaincy equally tough, I'm currently on Pelle (I have Sanchez and Kane ahead of Ozil and Bony).

While a few of us have a strong front 8 with the Aguero cash used elsewhere it's probably a good time, maybe even the best. But its such a hit and miss chip so the most important factor when using it is luck.

I'm wondering this. In your position I would say go for the AOA. The chip seems very hit and miss as you can easily start the wrong defenders.

I had contemplated it because I like the fixtures of all of my front 8, but then I'm happy with the fixtures of my back 3 (or 4) so I don't think it's advantageous to play it. I'm going to do so when my defenders all have tough games, or there are a few injured, or they are hit by a pre or post DGW when there are limited games.

We all have a point in the season usually where all of a sudden you have 4 players, or so, who do not even have a game that week. Hopefully they'll be defenders!!

My front 8 are really quite template and this year I swore not to have to many differentials, but we all need 1 or 2 to get ahead, so I was going to go Wijnaldum over Mahrez, but obviously that's going to be very well perceived, what differential would you add to this?

    Mata Mane Payet Cabaye Sanchez
    Lukaku Kane Bony

    A quick note on "coverage"

I get that you can have team coverage, and be wary of how many players you have from teams. Having 3 players from a side that could easily fall out of form is risky and it would make sense to reduce that number to 2 so your reducing the amount of transfers you would need to make to get rid of these players if they did indeed fall out of form.

So we see here there is a REAL effect this coverage as over/under coverage could result in extra transfers being used, these transfers have a "value" which in the end will likely reduce your overall score.

HOWEVER the coverage that makes no sense from a numerical point of view is coverage within in a single GW when deciding who to bench.
Let's simplify the situation and look at defenders with clean sheets, not taking into account bonus or attacking returns.
    For example:
defenders A + B are from the same team and the chance of clean sheet is 50%.
Defender C is from a different team and the chance of a clean sheet is 40%

By playing A+B you can expect:
    players A + B to score 4 points on average ( 2 for playing + 2 for 50% chance of clean sheet)
50% chance of scoring 4 points total
50% chance of scoring 12 points total
    Average score 8 points total

    For playing A+C
Player C will score 3.6 points on average (2 for playing + 1.6 for 40% chance of clean sheet)
30% chance of scoring 4 points total
50% chance of scoring 8 points total
20% chance of scoring 12 points total
    Average score 7.6 points total.

So you are reducing the risk of a low score, but why does that matter for a single gameweek? It doesn't matter how well you do in a single gameweek. All that counts is the final score. There are occasions where playing A+C would be beneficial but not this early in the season. All you should be concerned about is maximising your "expected" score.

I realise this is a long post and a lot of you already knew this anyway but I feel it is important to understand and would help people score better.

I can't argue/agree with it because I got completely lost halfway through.

Haha I do apologise. A bit mathsy.
Basically people will choose lower average score but smaller deviance rather than higher average and larger deviance.

Makes no sense at this time of the season

Ahhh I see. I actually think then, from what I understand, you make a good point. There is a proclivity to "spread the risk" when, over a substantial period of time, it would possibly be better to double up on good defences. (I have probably woefully misunderstood what you were saying).

    Your opinion would be much appreciated;

    1 FT, 2.5 ITB

    Butland
    Smalling / Kolarov / Azpilicueta
Payet / Sanchez / Mahrez / De Bruyne
    Vardy / Martial / Pelle

Subs: McCarthy / Muniesa / Westwood / Huth

    A) Martial --> Lukaku
    B) Azpi --> Bellerin/Kosc
    C) Sort out my horrible, injury ridden bench.
