Harry Kane makes it four goals in two appearances with a late strike against Villa. Mousa Dembele and Jordan Ayew both net for the second time in as many league outings as Spurs move into fifth position, just one point off the top four.

Kane in the Goals Again

Harry Kane netted his fourth goal in two starts to cap off Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-1 home win over Aston Villa, thus extending their unbeaten streak to 10 matches. The England international left it late at White Hart Lane – rifling into the top corner three minutes into stoppage time – having been relatively starved of scoring opportunities (two attempts) before then. Prospective investors in the 9.3-priced forward might be deterred by the difficulty of Spurs’ upcoming trio of fixtures (ars, WHU, CHE), but it’s worth noting that Kane bagged a combined five goals in his previous match-ups with Arsenal and Chelsea.

Mousa Dembele came through on our Differential shout, claiming his second goal in as many outings. Notwithstanding his attractive price tag (5.3), the Belgian’s Fantasy potential is somewhat diminished by the fact that he’s only made it past the 70-minute mark on three occasions due to Mauricio Pochettino’s tendency to freshen things up late on in matches. Elsewhere among their mid-priced midfielders, Erik Lamela (6.8) earned his third assist of the campaign, rendering him one to watch when Spurs’ schedule clears up beyond Gameweek 14 – the Argentine has now delivered two goals and three assists in the last seven outings.

Delle Alli netted the hosts’ second of the night, boosting his output to two goals and as many assists for the season. Although Pochettino might opt to rotate the 19-year-old when Nabil Bentaleb returns from the treatment room – given that he’s enjoying his first year in the Premier League – Alli’s 4.9 valuation minimises the risk of recruiting the promising fifth midfielder.

Danny Rose highlighted his attacking instincts with back-to-back assists. Since the 5.2-priced left-back reclaimed his starting berth in Gameweek 9, only Alberto Moreno (six) has notched more shots (five) among all defenders. Those eyeing up Rose will have to await news on his health, as he was replaced at the 82-minute mark due to injury.

Ayew Strike Mere Consolation for Villa

On for the injured Ashley Westwood, Jordan Ayew chalked up his second goal in consecutive Gameweeks and looked lively throughout his 53-minute stint, surely convincing new manager Remi Garde to afford him a run of starts.

Garde clearly has a daunting task on his hands, given that Villa have now lost seven on the bounce and picked up a single point since the season opener at Bournemouth. Moreover, the West Midlanders also became just the third outfit to lose nine of their first 11 match-ups. From a Fantasy perspective, it will be interesting to observe whether the likes of Scott Sinclair (4.7) and Rudy Gestede (5.8) re-emerge as viable budget pick-ups under the Frenchman’s reign, though with numerous options available, it looks very wise to steer clear until we see signs of improvement. Given that Villa now face City, Everton, Watford, Southampton and Arsenal in the next five, Garde looks set for a testing opening period at the helm.

Once Aguero's back i dont want to have 2 10+ options from the same team since you can only captain one of em anyway.. Gonna keep Yaya and swap KDB out for Aguero's return i think

Makes a lot of sense to me and sounds a solid plan.

Much like the Haz/Costa thing when Chelsea were good. Really had to pick one becuase you can only captain one.

has been on fire with goals this season but underlying stats suggest a lot of luck. No mention of previous seasons? 😉

Ah those pesky underlying stats. I don't even have him, but not sure why his appeal is dropping. Only blanked in 1 start @ Old Trafford. I just think City will be the highest scorers in the league, from this point on, making 2 of their attackers worth having.

He was very poor when playing out wide against Norwich. Looked better when he was shifted in the hole when Sterling came on but it doesn't look like he'll play there much with Silva and even Yaya preferred there.

Paying 10.7m for a City player who you'll most likely never captain with Kun back, who will be playing out wide and has over performed thus far relative to his stats is pretty poor value, imo.

Yeah everyone is knee jerky as always but personally i never saw the appeal at the 10m+ price. Absolutely rate him but just never saw the value in fpl. Will tick along with assists for sure but i can't see him doing enough for his price. Ozil will score just as much imo for a lot less.

Fair enough. Agree to disagree, although i am looking at getting Ozil soon as well. I don't really see him as a captain option when Aguero's back so that's a factor against him i guess. Good luck anyway

There are two KDBs, though -- the one with Silva and Aguero vs the one without them. He is plugging along okay without, but the question is whether he will return to his FPL best heights when they do.

      Mignolet
      Bellerin,Cedric, Moreno
      Sanchez,Ozil, KDB, Payet, Wijnaldum
      Lukaku, Vardy

      McCarthy,Pelle, Francis, Darmian

      Considered options.
      1. Save ( Play team as is, Benching 1 of Payet, Pelle, Wijnaldum)
      2. Wijnaldum > Drinkwater, Solving benching problem and freeing up funds.
      3. Mignolet > DDG ( planning a future Darmian exit but having better United defensive cover.)

I'm in a two legged cup tie against this team:

        Myhill/Butland
        Kolarov /Koscielny / Smalling/ Ward / Targett
        Willian / Özil / Mahrez / Sanchez / kdb
        Pelle / Vardy / Ighalo

        My team:
        Begovic/McCarthy
        Dawson/Kolarov/Bellerin/Ward/Francis
        Payet/Mahrez/Sanchez/ kdb /Ayew
        Bony/Vardy/Pelle

He beat me with 21 points this GW, and need to take that back now or I'm out.

        So what should I do?

        GK:
Him: Myhill has United away / Butland Chelsea at home
        Me: Begovic has Stoke away.
No matter which GK he chooses I am favouring him to outscore me here.

        Defence:
        Him: Kolarov /Koscielny / Smalling/ Ward / Targett
        Me: Dawson/Kolarov/Bellerin/ Ward /Francis

He will probably play Kolarov/Kos/Smalling, while I'm currently on Kolarov/Bellerin/ Dawson or Francis. Again it seems like he has the upper hand and I will struggle to get as many points as him.

        Midfield/Attack:
Him: Willian / Özil / Mahrez / Sanchez / kdb
        Pelle / Vardy / Ighalo
        Me: Payet/Mahrez/Sanchez/ kdb /Ayew
        Bony/Vardy/Pelle

Difference here being Willian/Özil/Ighalo vs Payet/Ayew/Bony

Obviosuly I'm in need of a miracle. I will probably captain Bony and hope that pays off, but I am sure I need something else as well.

I'm thinking about getting Moreno in for Dawson or Francis, but wonder if any of you see something else i should do first?

        Monreal | Cédric | Janmaat
Sánchez | Hazard | De Bruyne | Mané
        Lukaku | Pellè | Ighalo

        2FT, 0.0M.

        Thoughts on:

        – Hazard –> Sissoko (bou, LEI, cpl)
        – Fabianski –> Da Gea (WBA, wat, lei, WHM, bou, NOR, stk)

Branislav Ivanović isn't the one to blame

Time to take on the topical debate in a straightforward, no nonsense, Jefferson Montero way.

As we mentioned above, Branislav Ivanović is the all-around wing back on the right side in Chelsea's set up. His aerial dominance makes him a weapon on both attacking and defensive set pieces (for his heading more than his grappling talents though) as well as in open play, when Courtois/Begović knock it long or when the opponents decide to switch play.

With Willian vacating the right flank to play the ball in central areas as a 3rd central midfielder, that also leaves the right side very exposed in transition. In case the opponent has time and space to pick up a pass in Ivanović's wing, Chelsea used to deal with those situations with either Willian doing another superhuman sprint to cut the pass off, or at times Cesc Fàbregas helping Ivanović and Willian to box the opposition's winger (and his overlapping full back).

Defence is about defensive overload before thinking about getting stuck in a challenge. Only when the closing down/cover support shape is set around the holder of the ball can a defender be proactive and try to win the ball back. Mourinho, like many other managers nowadays, doesn't encourage centre backs to vacate space centrally to support full backs. It's the central midfielders' job to help the full back to deal with wingers.

This, is not happening right now at Chelsea. Cesc Fàbregas is nowhere to be seen to cover the inside of the field when Ivanović is isolated against Montero, Bolasie, Naismith or Brahimi.

Let's also settle on something that many people tend not to take into account. Full backs should never defend 1v1 against elite wingers. Elite wingers are elite wingers because they can succeed more often than not at beating their man. A full back losing a "1v1" (the very restricted portion of space and time which can be regarded as a 1v1) happens all the time, but with proper cover support and midfielders properly cutting off passing lanes, the winger is generally doomed to give the ball away shortly after.

The situation that is very wrong with Ivanović right now is that he has to deal with elite wingers on his own and has no support whatsoever around him. He is the last one to blame, for failing to repeatedly accomplish the feat of winning the ball back when backpedalling against a Premier League winger who had space to gather pace to take on him.

This probably explains why a two-time Champions League and 8 times League winning manager has maintained his trust in him despite worldwide Twitter backlash.

I read that article and it is a good read.

But you continuously see Ivanovic being at fault for goals, whether that be continuously getting beaten one on one or not closing men down quick enough. I think he deserves the flack he is getting.

This hand behind the back business I'll never understand 😕

Man U struggling to score means we can expect Dawson to have a CS. If he does bonus pts will follow. A big if really..

Dawson or Bellerin.. Who to play?

Bellerin. Dawson hasn't got a single bonus point for his 6 clean sheets this season. Bellerin attacking points more likely than a WBA CS imo

            You think United will score?

            Have you watched us recently?

we have a phobia, it's called shooting

The phobia is creating chances. Then we can shoot.

well we're lowest for shots in the box and 2md lowest fro goal attempts at all

we basically just an aversion to the big white thing with a net in the middle

        Hi all

Benching headache, atm I am thinking of benching KDB or (gulp) Mahrez again....

        De Gea - (Schmeichel)
        Fonte - Bellerin - Nyom - (Francis - Burke)
        Sanchez - KDB - Mane - Mahrez - Payet
        Lukaku - Vardy - Pelle

        Myhill, McCarthy

        Darmian, Dawson, Martin, Richards, Muniesa

        Sanchez, KDB, Payet, Mahrez, Westwood

        Bony, Pelle, Vardy

        6.1 in bank

Only 1 available GK and 1 available defender this week and they play at Man United - ouch. Looking like it's going to have to be AOA and one points hit. Would you go for:

        A) Muniesa and Westwood - Bellerin and Mane
        B) Muniesa and Westwood - Moreno and Ozil
        C) Other

Couple of issues with my team to think about, and could do with some advice on them and which are more pressing etc...

          Butland / McCarthy
          Toby / VVD / Nyom / Evans / Darmian
          Sanchez / KDB / Mata / Eriksen / Mahrez
          Vardy / Pelle / Ighalo

          A) Evans and Darmian. WBA fixtures are bad, MUN are good - thinking Moreno/Bellerin
          B) Mata and Eriksen. Both have good fixtures, but neither are delivering. Ideally I want Ozil in.
          C) Maybe hold FT until after the international break and take my chances this week.

          Thanks in advance...
