Wednesday evening finds us popping out for the Weekly Shop, plundering the player lists of our partner games to assess the likely targets that will make up our weekend lineups.

Our analysis of the options is split into two sections: I’ll breakdown the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re scanning the players lists in our two partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt.

Better Buys

Manchester United may be struggling in attack but have been defensively sound with four shut-outs in five: they’ve conceded just a single goal at Old Trafford to date.

That ensures that David de Gea (FantasyBet 5.5m, Premier Punt 9m) is the standout option across the weekly games. The Spaniard has made three or more saves in four of his seven league appearances so far, with his shot-stopping abilities earning two bonus points against Crystal Palace in United’s previous outing. Given West Brom’s lack of punch, it’s difficult to see De Gea being breached at Old Trafford.

Jurgen Klopp’s reliance on full-backs to provide the attacking width within his system has Alberto Moreno (FantasyBet 5m, Premier Punt 8.4m) promoted up from the Poundstretcher classification. Moreno’s raiding runs down the flank have resulted in the left-back having more goal attempts (six) over the last three than any other defender. Liverpool welcome a Crystal Palace side that have scored just once in their last three matches on the road.

Riyad Mahrez (FantasyBet 6.5m, Premier Punt 9.9m) proved once again that ignoring his talents can be damaging; a brace against West Brom brought his total for the season to seven goals in 11 matches. The Algerian’s consistency has been a huge asset and, having blanked on just three occasions so far, I’m finding it difficult to look beyond Mahrez heading into the home meeting with Watford.

Arsenal have won five successive league matches and have averaged three goals a game over that run. Mesut Ozil (FantasyBet 8.5m, Premier Punt 13.3m) has been the prime architect for that impressive record with seven assists and a goal, making the German playmaker a must-have in Sunday’s north London derby. Team-mate Olivier Giroud (FantasyBet 9m, Premier Punt 14m) is also one to consider, with a goal in each of his last three – the Frenchman remains assured of starts with Theo Walcott sidelined.

Elsewhere in attack, I’m currently assessing Christian Benteke (FantasyBet 8.5m, Premier Punt 13m) as a key candidate. The Belgian has suffered limited pitch time but he looks certain to start against Palace and has scored in three of his last four Premier League outings. Carrying on from Villa last season, Benteke now has 15 goals in 19 top-flight appearances: that makes him impossible to ignore.

Poundstretchers

Leicester picked up their first clean sheet of the season in their previous match at the King Power and Kasper Schmeichel (FantasyBet 4.5m, Premier Punt 7.6m) will be eager to improve on that record with the visit of promoted Watford. Odion Ighalo will be a major threat if he recovers from a knock, but, despite his form, I foresee another call to the Pizza Parlour for Ranieri’s men.

I’m also looking at Jeffrey Schlupp in FantasyBet, where he’s classified as a 5.0 defender. Whilst confidence in Leicester’s defence is understandably shaky, few can doubt their devastating attacking threat. Schlupp, on the left-flank or even in the number ten role, looks a very handy defensive differential.

Sunderland have conceded two or more goals seven times this season, which has me lean towards Southampton’s assets as they drop in on the Stadium of Light this weekend. Dusan Tadic (FantasyBet 7m, Premier Punt 10.8m) has outscored Sadio Mane (FantasyBet 8m, Premier Punt 12.1m) overall after picking up an assist against Bournemouth and is also a cheaper alternative to Graziano Pelle (FantasyBet 8m, Premier Punt 12.2m).

We drop in on Bournemouth for our budget striker pick this week. Glenn Murray (FantasyBet 6m, Premier Punt 7.6m) has two in four for Eddie Howe’s side and the veteran frontman could be up against Newcastle’s fourth choice keeper, with Robert Elliot the latest to be struck by injury.

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups heading into the weekend. I’ll return on Friday with a further assessment of this week’s partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

So what are the chances of Kolorov starting this week?

Thinking I might start banking some money for Aguero and do Kolorov to Rojo?

    Regarding Chelsea's game:

    * Our defense is still a joke.
    * Willian is the only player worth having in your team. I wouldn't advice you to take him but could be a differential.
    * Hazard played for the last 10 minutes. He did show glimpses of last season. Was pretty good. Would advice those with him in their team to hold him for the two home fixtures which follow Stoke.
*We were much better today but nowhere close to where we should be.

Dismissed your bellerin xomment as nothing confirmed yet bout him being ruled out and if so its hardly a nightmare as i feel huth could potentially come in with a clean sheet at Home.

As for your Pelle comment..u can keep him. Happy with my front line. retuned me well in recent weks.

Reckon I might play bench boost this week.

People say that they are holding for a double gwk but that would mean their bench players would have to play twice to maximise and that's difficult to plan without a wc.

My bench is: Hennessy (liv) Moreno (CRY) Simpson (WAT) and Barry (whu)

If Moreno gets a cs and an assist and Simpson a cs, it will be worth it.

    Any thoughts?

Current results "prediction" for each match this weekend (based on each team's number of team goals spread bet mid-point on Spreadex)

    Bournemouth 1.55 Newcastle 1.2
    Leicester 1.7 Watford 1.05
    Man U 2.1 West Brom 0.55
    Norwich 1.35 Swansea 1.25
    Sunderland 0.95 Southampton 1.7
    West Ham 1.45 Everton 1.35
    Stoke 1.05 Chelsea 1.45
    Villa 0.8 Man City 2.15
    Arsenal 2 Spurs 1.1
    Liverpool 1.75 Palace 0.9

For example, if Bournemouth v Newcastle as played, say, 100 times, Spreadex predict that Bournemouth would score 155 goals (i.e. a 1.55 average) and Newcastle 120 (i.e. a 1.2 average).

Something that really annoys me lately 😡

People with a strong Power 8 that keep saying "Oh who do I bench this week?"

Boo hoo, that's why it's a terrible idea because you have 8 form players just because you can afford them and you have to decide on benching one.

Made your bed so lie in it, nobody has a crystal ball to know which one will score lowest 😕

At least 'Who do I bring in?' can have some logical reasoning behind it, i.e. take out an out-of-form player for an in-form player, play the fixtures.

With the Power 8 you have 8 players in form, so fixtures goes out the window. Mahrez might blank at home to Watford and Ighalo might score, it's an impossible task and one that will cause more problems unless you get the luck each week which is unlikely

        1. Greenbackbøøg…
          • 11 Years
          10 years, 1 month ago

Who do I bring in doesn't have much logical reasoning, you're betting on players who you think will perform. You don't know whether Ayoze > Ighalo for example is a good move any more than you know whether is Ighalo will score this week. Don't you also play the fixtures in the power 8 scenario?

          1. Bøwstring The Carp
            • 14 Years
            10 years, 1 month ago

I would disagree that anyone with a Power 8 would/ should play the fixtures

Mahrez and Payet for example are impossible to know when they're going to blank

      Rubbish post Bowstring.

Some of us have a strong front eight because Ighalo looked like a better sub option to play a 3-5-2 than any Westwood or Wanyama sub in a 3-4-3..

As it turns out he's as good as any player in the game...just how the cookie crumbles sometimes...

Should I sell him for a player who scores 2pts a week ?

There's two sides to this coin imo

Yes by saving money on players like Ighalo, your 5th mid can become someone decent like Mahrez/ Payet

However! It just seems to me like the Power 8 has come about from an abundance of cash due to Aguero's injury, and that deciding on an 11 each week will be an art of guesswork. With a 3-4-3 or a 3-5-2 you know your main players (with the money more concentrated into the likes of historically reliable picks such as Sanchez, Silva, Hazard, Aguero, Kane and KDB, etc) and if they blank they blank

Unless you have a wildcard it will be hits galore to try work Aguero back into the team in a few more weeks

        1. Bøwstring The Carp
          • 14 Years
          10 years, 1 month ago

And I'm not against people owning the Power 8, by all means go for it

But if it doesn't work out, and for example you end up with a hatrick benched over a red carded player or whatever the worst case scenario might be, that's the risk you take

I'm not saying this can't happen in a 3-4-3 or a 3-5-2 but you're increasing the odds of it happening hugely in a Power 8

        2. Dr Dream
          • 13 Years

          but I have

          Ozil Payet Sanchez Mahrez KDB

          Pelle Vardy Ighalo

A strong front eight (Pelle?) and 3.5 mill itb..

I can get him back no problem.

            • 14 Years

Assuming you're taking Pelle out for Aguero, you're still 1mil short

Ighalo can't even be downgraded to fund them move as 4.3 is the lowest forward and even at that they're not playing lately, meaning one of your midfielders/ defence will have to go

I personally would find it very hard ti drop any of those midfield players at the moment

So is your point that the rotating attackers might put the owner in a bad situation because rotating incorrectly might end up with an average of 2 pts per gw from that last spot? Whereas leaving the same seventh attacker in will get you 4 pts per gw if you just leave him alone for six weeks?
That logic might hold if you don't make transfers, otherwise the transfers become the rotation, right?

          1. Bøwstring The Carp
            • 14 Years
            10 years, 1 month ago

I see your point, but my eason for not opting for the power 8 is more to do with the money being spread out more rather than concentrated into more realiable (historically) heavy hitters

With this tactic you're basically denying yourself the possibility of Aguero/ Costa/ Hazard/ etc. unless you're willing to dismantle your team. It's fine for those still with a wildcard but I'm not too fond of it myself, too much hassle imo

            1. tm245
              • 14 Years

Interesting, and I guess you would need to factor in the transfers spent to dismantle and reassemble as another cost as well. Right now Ighalo makes things pretty affordable, though.

    Lukaku - Pelle - Vardy

Pretty happy with the attack, so what should be FT this week go towards?

    A) Dawson > Rojo

I think i might. Rojo is playing well at the moment and i need a bit of Man U defense cover.

Based on form and fixtures alone, who would you pick?
    Ayew or Payet or Ighalo?

Can't help but feel that Leicester fixture is too obvious this week.

Mahrez & Vardy look absolutely primed for big hauls but can't but feel we may see a big stinking nil each..

Looks like I'll be trying on Francis to bring home some points this week. Not confident!
