Wednesday evening finds us popping out for the Weekly Shop, plundering the player lists of our partner games to assess the likely targets that will make up our weekend lineups.

Our analysis of the options is split into two sections: I’ll breakdown the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re scanning the players lists in our two partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt.

Better Buys

Manchester United may be struggling in attack but have been defensively sound with four shut-outs in five: they’ve conceded just a single goal at Old Trafford to date.

That ensures that David de Gea (FantasyBet 5.5m, Premier Punt 9m) is the standout option across the weekly games. The Spaniard has made three or more saves in four of his seven league appearances so far, with his shot-stopping abilities earning two bonus points against Crystal Palace in United’s previous outing. Given West Brom’s lack of punch, it’s difficult to see De Gea being breached at Old Trafford.

Jurgen Klopp’s reliance on full-backs to provide the attacking width within his system has Alberto Moreno (FantasyBet 5m, Premier Punt 8.4m) promoted up from the Poundstretcher classification. Moreno’s raiding runs down the flank have resulted in the left-back having more goal attempts (six) over the last three than any other defender. Liverpool welcome a Crystal Palace side that have scored just once in their last three matches on the road.

Riyad Mahrez (FantasyBet 6.5m, Premier Punt 9.9m) proved once again that ignoring his talents can be damaging; a brace against West Brom brought his total for the season to seven goals in 11 matches. The Algerian’s consistency has been a huge asset and, having blanked on just three occasions so far, I’m finding it difficult to look beyond Mahrez heading into the home meeting with Watford.

Arsenal have won five successive league matches and have averaged three goals a game over that run. Mesut Ozil (FantasyBet 8.5m, Premier Punt 13.3m) has been the prime architect for that impressive record with seven assists and a goal, making the German playmaker a must-have in Sunday’s north London derby. Team-mate Olivier Giroud (FantasyBet 9m, Premier Punt 14m) is also one to consider, with a goal in each of his last three – the Frenchman remains assured of starts with Theo Walcott sidelined.

Elsewhere in attack, I’m currently assessing Christian Benteke (FantasyBet 8.5m, Premier Punt 13m) as a key candidate. The Belgian has suffered limited pitch time but he looks certain to start against Palace and has scored in three of his last four Premier League outings. Carrying on from Villa last season, Benteke now has 15 goals in 19 top-flight appearances: that makes him impossible to ignore.

Poundstretchers

Leicester picked up their first clean sheet of the season in their previous match at the King Power and Kasper Schmeichel (FantasyBet 4.5m, Premier Punt 7.6m) will be eager to improve on that record with the visit of promoted Watford. Odion Ighalo will be a major threat if he recovers from a knock, but, despite his form, I foresee another call to the Pizza Parlour for Ranieri’s men.

I’m also looking at Jeffrey Schlupp in FantasyBet, where he’s classified as a 5.0 defender. Whilst confidence in Leicester’s defence is understandably shaky, few can doubt their devastating attacking threat. Schlupp, on the left-flank or even in the number ten role, looks a very handy defensive differential.

Sunderland have conceded two or more goals seven times this season, which has me lean towards Southampton’s assets as they drop in on the Stadium of Light this weekend. Dusan Tadic (FantasyBet 7m, Premier Punt 10.8m) has outscored Sadio Mane (FantasyBet 8m, Premier Punt 12.1m) overall after picking up an assist against Bournemouth and is also a cheaper alternative to Graziano Pelle (FantasyBet 8m, Premier Punt 12.2m).

We drop in on Bournemouth for our budget striker pick this week. Glenn Murray (FantasyBet 6m, Premier Punt 7.6m) has two in four for Eddie Howe’s side and the veteran frontman could be up against Newcastle’s fourth choice keeper, with Robert Elliot the latest to be struck by injury.

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups heading into the weekend. I’ll return on Friday with a further assessment of this week’s partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

Wanyama is dirt cheap as a bench mid who is guaranteed a game when not suspended. Do you think he will be even cheaper by the time this suspension is through?

His target% has been around -40%+ the last few days, I doubt that.

I've never really kept a 2-point mid ever. Maybe a dead defender. According to me a front 8 is crucial. Even when Aguero returns I'll make sure the 5th mid is at least 5.5.

Redmond, Kouyate, Dembele, Lanzini are decent options.

None are overly great though, My cheapest mid is Mahrez, and next to that is Ayew at 7m

I'm with you on this, I have no problem with cheap defenders, usually only use 3 per week anyway.

Having a rotation player in the front 8 is ideal IMO

Not an immediate consideration. When Kun, Costa, Sturridge, Hazard and Silva start firing, you will want your cheapest possible 5th mid 5th defender fodders.

Not sure I'd want him tbh, Saints have good fixtures & I don't want to be put in the scenario where I'd want a double up of their attack/defense & see I'd be encumbered with Whyama making that switch very awkward.

Gosling & Surman are safer bets imo, Surman has been in the top three completed for most passes in the season thus far, could even häve some assist potentiäl.

This is the best reason not have Wanyama as your 5th mid. Westwood is a good option because you would never want to triple up on Villa.

I'd have a look at Barry if you want the 5th mid to be from a better team. Though again, if they start doing really well in their current stretch of good fixtures, you may want go to do a def/mid/lukaku triple up

INot sure I'd want Barry considering his aggressive play style, tendency to rack up YC's go for hard fouls. It could be a risk having someone like him & like you said, a triple up could be an option at some point. I wouldn't rule it out of the equation tbh.

Mini repost from last page. Defence is:

    Butland, McCarthy
Kolarov, Francis, (Dawson, Nyom, *Bellerin*) - Playing AOA

I have 2 FT's. Who needs to go, Butland, Dawson or Francis?

    Butland would become DDG
    Dawson/Francis would become Moreno.

Or should I do both? Why not?

Terrible fixtures, won't keep any CS's in the next 7 or so games imo. Save points will only get him an extra 1-2 points. CS points gets you 4 points.

This is true, didnt really consider fixtures coming up. Had him from the start and only just started to produce results. Im currently on Butland and Myhill atm, would you consider I drop Butland for a filler like Hennessy in the near future?

Bellerin will stat for me but probally won't play, so what order should my bench be? Currently on

Probably not, but the moves do have huge potential to get me alot of points.

        Butland + Francis/Dawson -----> DDG + Moreno

Butland won't keep a CS any time soon, same goes with Francis/Dawson.

Yeah, it is risky. And normally I would save a FT. But surely if you know the move will work out immediately then it would be worth it. I'm almost certain that WBA won't score against United. Playing safe has the potential to cost you points.

Experience has taught me to never be sure of CS.

Sure, United seem the best bet for a CS this week of all teams which is why I'm getting Smalling. But never think so short term with transfers, you have to think about, at least, the next 3 GWs.

Just use 1 of the 2, especially if its only on defence

Hmmmm.. Good point. Francis(NEW)/Dawson(mun) could easily outscore Moreno (LIV) and Moreno has City the gameweek after that. Palace are also due a goal.

Wow, Bellerin gets injured and I become knee-jerky 😆

    Schmeichel, Butland
    Ward, Francis, Kolarov, Dawson, Toby..

    1. Dawson- Moreno
    2. Francis- Moreno

Im thinking Dawson out because their fixtures are poor. He will be an unused sub for too long.
Need to have more cash for Aguero in a few weeks time..

Of course Dawson is a better pick than Francis but is he worth 0.5m more for sitting on the bench?

    Hello DZ

I am having crazy thoughts today... Yeah you are seeing it right, thinking of benching Sanchez this week!

    Butland
    Kolarov l Moreno l Bertrand
    Tadic l KDB l Payet l Marhez
    Pelle l Lukaku l Vardy

Bench: Hennesey l Sanchez l Dawson l Souare

    1FT / 1.6 ITB

    Talk me out of this!

    WTD?

    Myhil/schmeichel

    Dawson/ Stones/ VVD (Bellerin, Francis)

    Sanchez, KDB, Mane, Mahrez (Hoolahan)

    Ighalo, Pelle, Vardy

    1ft

    3.4 itb

Open to any advice. Some thoughts

    A) play Myhil and Dawson and save
    B) Schmeichel to De Gea/ Hennessy, play that keep instead of Myhil
    C) Dawson to Smalling/ Monero
    E) Something mid or offense?

Well City go away to Sevilla have a class game. All of their team played well, in the press conference when asked why he changed,
"I was unsatisfied with my teams performance so decided for a change"

All of the front 4 played well. He may want to reward them with a start away to villa?

I personally hope he starts as I have him in my team but have a feeling he wont.

But then they have no recognized ST starting. Silva is back on the mend too. I could see him keeping the exact same team, and rewarding them all.

The only way KDB gets back in the team is if they take our either Fernando or Fernandinho, and move YaYa back to CM.

So hypothetical, would you start him in your team with a strong chance of him being on the bench?

                  who is your 5th mid?

Start Butland or Schmeichel this week?

Maybe not as straightforward as it seems..

      Pretty straight forward.

      Butland vs 15th place team.

Newcastle may be 15th but they have been very unfortunate in their last few games. I think Butland is a good choice overall, don't see the foxes keeping a CS.

Butland, and I'm selling him this week 😆

But if Ighalo is ruled out I would play Schmeic

I posted this above but are you sure KDB will start?

Sanchez and Mahrez will be gold this weekend.

Bench Barkley, he is too inconsistent. Look at Evertons last game 6 goals, and he was not involved in any.
West ham do not score at the weekend for the first time in a long time. But near enough every game WH have played Payet has been involved.

      Who is your 3 St?

    A. Stick
    B. Cresswell => Bertrand/Ward/Moreno
    C. Martial => Kane/Lukaku/Pelle

Looking at Kane since I already have Mane and Lukaka's form is unpredictable.

      A

5 mid is solid option. Martial will be your go to get out, but do you see there being goals vs WBA? Only a matter of time until Man U win by a few. Keep your team, get your 2 FT so then if anyone is hurt etc for International break your safe.

I think that's what I'll do, hopefully Martial can come up with the goods this weekend after their CL win. Not too happy with Cresswell and Howard, let's see what happens this weekend.

        I'll stick for now, thanks!

Continuing on the topic of the NBA, would love for the Lakers to make a big signing or two in the next two years.

Would love the youngsters D'Angelo Russell and Julius Randle to get some decent support when Kobe retires.

So much potential talent in those 2.

Oh for sure! I would love that. Kobe needs to go after this season. Who is he kidding really? Injuries fecked him up for good. Still lasted much longer than T-Mac did.
