We turn our attentions to the main captaincy contenders for the weekend now and roll out our regular pre-Gameweek members article. We take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Jamie Vardy (25%) is the most popular choice for the captain’s armband this Gameweek, having tallied an astonishing 10 goals in his last eight outings. Considering that Leicester City have scored in every match this term, the Foxes’ irrepressible frontman won’t fear a Watford outfit that boasts back-to-back clean sheets ahead of their trip to the King Power Stadium. A brace for Riyad Mahrez against West Bromwich Albion earns him 17% of the vote and second place in our Captain Poll. The Algeria international has drawn just two blanks in nine appearances this term, underlining the consistency of his output.

Kevin De Bruyne scoops 14% of the vote ahead of Manchester City’s trip to Aston Villa this Sunday. The former Wolfsburg recruit lays claim to a superior points-per-game average (6.9) than any other Sky Blues midfielder, having bagged three goals and four assists in six matches. The 4% of voters that plumped for his team-mate, Wilfred Bony, will be encouraged by the Ivorian’s finish in midweek and the fact that the Villains last claimed a shut-out in Gameweek 1.

Looking beyond the top three, Graziano Pelle attracted an 8% backing as Southampton prepare to square off against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. The Italian marksman has chalked up four goals and as many assists in his previous six starts, while the Black Cats are still recovering from their 6-2 drubbing at Goodison on Sunday.

Despite the tough nature of Arsenal’s home clash against Tottenham Hotspur, the fixture-proof Alexis Sanchez enjoys 7% of the vote. The sprightly Chilean carded blanks in the last two Gameweeks but has showcased his capacity for explosive returns with two 15+-point hauls.

Outside the top five, Georginio Wijnaldum and Romelu Lukaku (both 3%) have emerged as popular differential picks. The former ranks second among midfielders – behind Mahrez (seven) – for goals scored this season, with his four-goal haul at home to Norwich City the obvious highlight. The latter, meanwhile, is the sixth highest points scorer (66) in the Fantasy Premier League, with six goals and four assists accrued.

Four consecutive blanks hasn’t deterred 2% of voters from investing faith in Anthony Martial when Manchester United play host to West Brom, who’ve only conceded in one of five road fixtures. Also coming in at 2%, Christian Benteke netted in three of his previous four league outings so should have an air of confidence about him when Crystal Palace roll up to Anfield.

In your opinion, best defender, under £5m, for the next 6 GWs?

Currently weighing-up Cedric and Moreno but anyone else I should look at?

Those 2 are the best for 5m and below. Ward is a decent budget option from next week also.

I think Moreno is a very good choice, better than Cedric in my opinion (I own Cedric, but I think VVD looks like a better option).

I'm trying to decide between getting Moreno and Rojo, however, which is tricky...

What is your thinking? Man United are better defensively, but Moreno is more attacking and cheaper, and perhaps more nailed on. I'm currently inclined towards Moreno.

I was too all week... until tonight

h2h opponent has DDG and Skrtel so I'm looking to level the playing field for one of them. MUN clean sheet looks a bit more likely

Although I already have Darmian so I'm not sure I need two united defenders, neither 100% nailed

A solid choice. I'm probably letting the gooner in me cloud my judgement....

But....Spurs having played Monday and Thursday and there often being goals in the NLD has me edging towards Sanchez. His stats may have dipped a little the past 2 weeks, but even then he is still right near the top of the charts.

Bony is my vice as things stand

Don't think you can look past Vardy - chasing a record against a Watford side thats very poor away adds up to a goal or two for me.

My reason against a City captain is that I've been let down more times captaining Man City players away from home, than I have been captaining Arsenal players at home.

Others will have had the opposite experience I'm sure, but sometimes it comes down to something basic like that.

(And I'm certain if I captained a Leicester player as many times as I'd captained a City or Arsenal player, home or away, that they'd let me down considerably more times than either of those two teams).

Would be nice for him, but don't think it works like that, the best pen taker will still take pens, which is Mahrez according to tinkerman, but he missed one in CLC, don't think Vardy has missed one, so Vardy could be on them anyway.

This is it, 1-2 hours left of my beautiful desk in the corner before it all changes on Monday. What effect will it have on my FFS involvement? It's impossible to know. Maybe it will be ok, maybe no one will be directly facing my screen and I can happily continue to whittle away the hours looking at Leicester stats tables, using the beautiful brief candle of life to determine Arsenal's potential with Olivier Giroud as striker. What a wonderful world that would be.

The other possibility? No FFS. Work, productivity, commission, promotion...it doesn't bear thinking about. Sure, I could have success, but at what cost? I could be at a swanky bar, rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous here in London, and suddenly a Serbian man walks in. Man City are in town this week. Is that...is that Kolarov? I used to have so many things to say to him...Aleksander Kolarov...lol...Aleksandelol? No, that wasn't it. What was it? This sieve of a mind cannot remember, and there he slips by, and all I can do is watch. That wit, that FFS wit, has deserted me.

Is this a world in which I want to live? Only time will tell. Suddenly I want the work week to linger, I cling to these final few moments before the weekend and, inexorably, the changes that Monday will bring. My eyes well up as I stare at the screen...Rupert, JK, Lucy, Demi, Doosra, Jafooli, Beavis, Boris Bodega, Wild Rover...the names swirl around my head, a disorientating haze of memories and emotion. And Daniel. My sweet, sweet Daniel. Juuuuuhuuuuu. You keep your head down, you believe in yourself and, my son, you will make it onto that Scoutcast one day.

I cannot type any longer, these tears are blurring my vision, my fingers slip as this fountain of sadness wets the keyboard. You, my FFSers, you go on without me. Maybe, one day in the not too distant future (like Monday at 8:45am), I will get my chance, my chance to say hello again. But until then, you continue, you brave souls. We'll always have memories.

Don't cry for me, I'm already dead.

I hope not, but if my boss is now able to see my computer screen at all times I may struggle.

Now listen to me Eden, that Rupert is a good horse but he needs guidance. I have to go now, but you take him under your wing, and you make him the best damn horse this land has ever seen. Wipe away those tears boy, you can't let him see you like this. He's weak, so you've gotta be strong for him. Don't let me down.

🙂 I think it will be Rupert who will be strong and it will be him who supports me....I am sure he will continue posting the links first for the new post but it will not be the same without you trying to beat him 🙁

I also had a year away from him a couple of seasons ago, that was a conscious decision to take a break from FPL for a while. This is FFS being cruelly snatched away by my boss, who seems to believe that, if you're paying someone to work, they should spend the whole day working.

          It's political correctness gone mad.

I know right.....people should be allowed to work as they wish provided they complete their job at the end of the day....its like school all over again , the boss being the strict headmaster 🙁

      Myhill
      Kolorov- Toby (Bellerin) (Darmian)
      Mahrez-Sanchez-Sterling-Payet-Mane
      Pelle-Vardy-Kane

Darmian to Rojo and bench Toby? Going forward I feel Darmian is under as much rotation threat as Rojo

      Or Save free transfer?

have i lost my ever-loving mind to consider this:

      DDG
      Dawson-Coleman-Janmaat-Monreal
      Barkley-KDB-Sanchez-Ayew-Mane
      Ighalo

Bench: Henne - Pelle - Mitrovic- Williams.

Pelle doesn't score away and neither does NUFC....
