In a new series of Members articles entitled “Talent”, we turn our attentions to players whose Fantasy fortunes have taking an upturn over their previous four Gameweeks. Digging deep into the Opta stats and our very own ICT Index, we analyse the data to ascertain just why this has come about. First up, then, is none other than Sunderland’s on-loan forward, Nicklas Bendtner.

A mere bench-warmer at Arsenal, the big Dane’s last-minute move to Wearside has kick-started his chances as a viable Fantasy prospect this term. With Asamoah Gyan moving to the United Arab Emirates to star for Al-Ain on a season-long loan, Bendtner has grabbed the role as Steve Bruce’s number-one forward and, so far, has justified his manager’s faith.

Although he missed last weekend’s game at Arsenal due to the loan arrangement with his parent club, Bendtner’s four games for Sunderland have seen him return one goal, three assists and three Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points; that’s twenty-four Fantasy points from the 6.4 forward, an average of 6 points per game. He also took that form into last week’s international matches, scoring in Denmark’s crucial 2-1 Euro 2012 qualifier over Portugal- with a run of games under his belt, he’s starting to show a consistency that none, other than Bendtner himself, had expected. Here’s how he’s been faring up on Wearside:

If you can get a hold of it, Get yourself a bottle of Crabbies Green Ginger (wine) & mix it half & half with your whisky, its called a Whisky Mac, very nice but also knocks your head off . Highly recommended. 😉

Hey kids - any advice for someone trying to ride his beginner's luck? I have a small cushion in my mini-league (30 pts) and I want to try and not squander it. Most people have Aguero (including my 2 closest competitors), a couple have Rooney (as do I), and as of right now, no one has RvP.

Without considering massive changes in form (but def. considering rotation threats), I'm looking at this 3 ways...would it make more sense to trade Rooney for Aguero so that if he goes off on, I can assure those behind me don't cut into my lead (at least with Kun, that is), or if no one picks up van Persie, maybe pick him up because no one is scooping up his points (and is the least likely of the 3 to get rested any given week), or just stay the course with Captain Hairplugs? I'm pretty happy with my team, for next 5 or 6 weeks (except for keepers week 12), but am just nervous and want to avoid getting chipped away at.

If it helps, here's the whole lineup:

Krul & Vorm; Bosingwa, Enrique, Ryan Tayor, Shawcross, Kompany; Silva, Nani, Murphy, Martin Petrov, Ramsey; Rooney, Agbonlahor, Adebayor

It's far too early to be protecting leads.

Go balls out for as many points as you can irrespective of who your rivals have in theri teams.

the problem with protecting your lead that way is you have to take into account their likely transfers

say you get in aguero to counter them...then all your rivals have done 1 transfer you just don't know what it is. then on sat you see they've alle done aguero-RVP and captained him. at home. to stoke

and you have aguero away at united

As soon as he's moved up to the premiership, hes no longer the focus of the team and struggles for returns. Ill try and remember this for next season.

ok theo walcott is destroying me, have had 3 really good weeks recently but could have oh so much better if i had bitten the bullet and got rid of him. got ramsey in pre-price rise last week as my arsenal cover with a view to shipping him out but i just cant seem to find the right replacement this week:

    current squad as follows:

    Given Ruddy
Enrqiue Kompany Shawcross Simpson N Taylor
    Ramsey Sinclair Silva Walcott Moses
    Suarez Rooney Adebayor.

    0.7 in the bank.

Players likely to come out soon are Walcott, Moses and possibly Simpson if Santon comes in at RB.

Any ideas for transfers this week or sit tight? Doubt Walcott will start against Stoke on Sunday. Mata is obviously the best option in that price bracket but 0.1m short. Stupidly overloaded with Arsenal cover last week and got rid of Brunt.

Re Moses - who are the best options in the 4.5 bracket as a replacement?

Sometimes FPL is perhaps more obvious than it seems: Pilkington.

Won't score every week, but looking at him this season and for Huddersfield previously, he has good stats, should play and a decent 5th mf guy. Gets you away from Dyer/Moses whom I'm stuck with.

Any suggested transfers very welcome here... cheers

    Krul (WIG)
    Bos(qpr) Simpson (WIG) Taylor (wig)
Nani (MCI) Dyer (wol) Silva (mun) Mata (QPR)
Agbon (WB) Ade (BLA) RVP (STO)

    subs:
    Vorm (wol)
    P.Jones (MCI)
    SWP (CHE)
    A.Ferdinant (CHE)

    Bank: 0.9, 1 free transfer

Would losing any of those strikers for Suarez be just madness?
Should I go A.Ferdinand -> Enrique before he rises tonight?
Should I save my transfers til next week?

Right, well, having watched the game:
Cech- safe as houses, distributed well and dealt with balls over the top. 7/10
Bosingwa- solid defensive display, quick as lightning. 7/10
Ivanovic- brilliant defender, brilliant footballer, well taken goal. 8/10
Luiz- exceptional passer, rash but does the job well. 7.5/10
Cole- Ran his socks off, deserved a rest. 6/10
Romeu- What a signing, so talented. 7.5/10
Meireles- Liverpool are idiots, incredible player, wonderful goal. 8.5/10
Lampard- could have scored a few and won a pen but he's too honest 7/10
Malouda- not his best performance, should have scored and should have passed to Anelka. 5/10
Torres- worked hard, looked sharp and very happy, two great goals 9/10
Anelka- brilliant all game, tracked back well 7.5/10

We'll win the Champions League this season.

      5. Neutral expected value. Neither good, nor bad. Indifferent. Mediocre. Both could and will score well over the forseeable. Also assuming you'll lose fair bit of £ on Rooney.

would have said 9 if you did it last week but now its 7, rooney got 2 difficult fixtures but stoke and cheslea are not excatly easy for rvp but he still edges it

I have a feeling rooney going drop back to defensive play against man city, he did that in the charity shield and did the same thing against liverpool last week when he came on. As for everton he has not scored at goodison so far.

Wow, another FPL dilemma. Enrique or Shawcross to replace Gabbi?

    Enrique
    + Good attacking potential
    + Nailed on
    + Top 6 side
+ Should only rise in price
    + 3 fixtures immediately nice
    + Few alternatives

    - Liverpool are not set up for CS like they were under Rafa. There was a reason why he rotted on many people's bench v Ev. A team with 10 men and without a recognised striker.
    - Beyond the next 3, only QPR is a decent fixture until they play Bla GW18.

    Shawcross
+ Nailed on along with Begovic
+ No matter what the opposition, Brittania is the toughest place to go all season
    + Pure CS potential
+ Superb fixtures long term to prove the cleanies against the likes of Che and Pool were no flukes
+ Will probably get BPs in a 0-0 draw
    + Top 8 team
+ Lovely rotation with likes of Warnock

    - Reasonable, inconsistent attacking potential
    - Stoke struggle away from home, particularly after Europe

Though less fashionable, Shawcross for me long term...
