In a new series of Members articles entitled β€œTalent”, we turn our attentions to players whose Fantasy fortunes have taking an upturn over their previous four Gameweeks. Digging deep into the Opta stats and our very own ICT Index, we analyse the data to ascertain just why this has come about. First up, then, is none other than Sunderland’s on-loan forward, Nicklas Bendtner.

A mere bench-warmer at Arsenal, the big Dane’s last-minute move to Wearside has kick-started his chances as a viable Fantasy prospect this term. With Asamoah Gyan moving to the United Arab Emirates to star for Al-Ain on a season-long loan, Bendtner has grabbed the role as Steve Bruce’s number-one forward and, so far, has justified his manager’s faith.

Although he missed last weekend’s game at Arsenal due to the loan arrangement with his parent club, Bendtner’s four games for Sunderland have seen him return one goal, three assists and three Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points; that’s twenty-four Fantasy points from the 6.4 forward, an average of 6 points per game. He also took that form into last week’s international matches, scoring in Denmark’s crucial 2-1 Euro 2012 qualifier over Portugal- with a run of games under his belt, he’s starting to show a consistency that none, other than Bendtner himself, had expected. Here’s how he’s been faring up on Wearside:

    Guys,
I need your help as you fpl knowledge is enormous and mine is pretty shocking.
Would you mind advising me on my team?

    Vorm/ruddy
R taylor, n Taylor, kompany, barnett, bosingwa
    Nani, sinclair, murphy, silva, ferguson
    Rvp, rooney, sturridge
    About 1.2 in the bank

    Any advice?

Get rid of Murphy/Ferguson....you defence is so so...love your attack and I don't think you need much work there.

      Good budget mid's include Ramsey/Ramires/Walters.

Dyer I guess only at home though. I suppose Moses would be ok...although he hasn't delivered Tiote is another option. But personally I would try working some funds sorted.

Looking to bring Suarez in for Dzeko but am 0.4 short. Thinking of a 4 pointer including SWP > 6.0 mid.

Is a 4 pointer sensible in this situation (Dzeko will not play) and what 6.0 midfielder should I go for. Petrov or Walters seem the common choices.

    Thoughts please.

Depends how you are doing in your league....personally I only do 4 pointers if I am reasonably certain of a greater Net points haul. In this instance I think I would go for it.

Cheers. I am 60 odd points behind 1st in a league of 70. The leader was in the top 500 after Gw5 but I am slowly reeling him in. I have taken 12 points in hits in the last two weeks and am happy to stick with the strategy for the time being.

Do it. It makes sense long term and there is a decent chance of you making the 4 points back this week.

As for the 6m mid I'm not a fan of Petrov or Walters personally but they are popular picks around here. How about Sinclair? Only other option I can think of right now is Brunt but I'm sure there's a few others.

Another goal for Ramsey tonight and scores of 5, 10 and 7 in the last 3 FPL games…is he worth the investment. I have exactly 6.5 in the bank.

My options for this week are either

    a) Taarabt to Ramsey
    b) Taarabt to Petrov
    c) Taarabt and De Laet to 5.3m mid and Enrique (who has 3 good weeks and 3 tough weeks to follow so not sure if he is worth a 4-point hit?)

Can't believe nobody is mentioning Charlie Adam for Liverpool coverage?
He's been poor(ish) this season as his limitations are being exposed at a bigger club, however he can still whip in balls and shoot from long range.
He will lose a few set pieces to Gerrard but not that many as Gerrard will take mainly the free kicks that Suarez had and Adam will be on most corners and all positions that favour a left footer.
Also, if Liverpool are ahead against Norwich by a couple of goals, Gerrard will be subbed not long after the hour mark to protect him.

Write Adam off at your peril, imo.

        No, I haven't at all.

Everyone has been saying that Gerrard is the man to get from Liverpool's midfield and I'm saying that his return won't affect Adam as much as people think and it will also help his point scoring ability in some ways.

He won't play deeper as everybody knows he is tactically naive defensively.

He will also have Gerrard to create more opportunities for him and vice versa.

Adam will start coming good again and let's not forget, he already has one goal and four assists to his name in a relatively poor season thus far.

Well, well, well. Got a couple of frees and no real issues with my team. Fancy some midpriced punts. Like Bale and Downing for instance. Reckon both Blackburn and Norwich are weak at RB.

Then again that would mean Sturridge or maybe a punt on Bendtner, but I've been convinced that Adebayor is worth having, so do I stick with Ramires or get Petrov in too? Decisions, decisions.

        So that means

I want to get Jose Enrique in my team but can't work out how! Any suggestions?

Here's my team (with sell prices):

    Vorm (4.1) Given (5.0)
    Bosingwa (5.9) Simpson (4.1) Kompany (6.0) Taylor (4.0) Ward (4.6)
    Allen (4.5) VDV (9.7) Murphy (6.1) Silva (9.9) Ramsey (6.5)
    Rooney (12.2) RVP (11.9) Agbon (6.8)

Ideally I'd like to dump Ward but I can't decide who to sell to make up the cash difference. I have no spare dosh!

    I'm happy to take a -4 hit.

I've been wracking my brain this week to work out the best solution but can't make up my mind. I know someone can rationalise it for me. Who's the chump I should dump? πŸ™‚

Sitting on my wildcard trying to choose between Lampard and Gerrard. I've got Stevie G at the moment but with 0.6 in the bank, I can just afford Lamps...I'm still leaning towards Gerrard, not convinced though. Any ideas?

Using ur WC now, means ur gonna have to use some transfers eventually around GW11 to get in some ManU players just due to their awesome run of fixtures. Personally you need to include one ManU player in your team now so you dont have to completely focus on getting them all in later, when you might not have the cash!

I was thinking I could save my transfer next week then see what happens from there, ship out someone expensive (Van Persie maybe - fixtures aren't great after the next few) and bring in Man U cover. Hopefully it won't come back to bite me!

difficult to choose from those as the obvious choices are in the arsenal and liverpool home fixtures, and you dont really have any attacking coverage for those teams, bar ramsey who isn't really captain material

    Uh-oh.

Danny Simpson has admitted he expects to be sold by Newcastle in January. The right-back does not think manager Alan Pardew will offer him a new contract beyond the 18 months he currently has left. Simpson is expecting to have to "travel all over the country" to meet clubs who want to sign him, hinting his days at St James' Park are drawing to an end.

Alright I have a bone to pick. Why is everyone so obsessed with getting VDV. He has been playing really
average and has been lucky with goals. Was terrible on the wing and after 'arrys comments at the end of last week it appears he will be dropped for Defoe

Surely you can't believe that the manager's comments are strictly honest. He made the same type of comments before the last game, and VDV returned 10 FPL points from it.

Sure but can you trust that he won't be dropped. Remember Defoe scored when he came on and looked alot sharper. I certainly wouldn't bring VDV in for a player like Nani and I certainly wouln't captain him, far to risky

There is definitely risk, but he is on penalties and he has scored in three straight matches and he scored a ton last year...There is rotation risk with Nani. That said I wouldn't drop Nani for him, but neither am I dropping him for Nani right now. Cheaper and a differential.

no don't trust it at all, Harry's a blusterer...that's what he does. Do you remember? He talks all kinds of sh%t from the seat of his Range Rover, which is where I'm sure they gleamed those tidbits from him post training session. Hell I remember clearly the year they got VDV, Harry said from the seat of his Range, "Yeah I reckon we're done finally at the 11th hour, we don't have any other prospects" 5 minutes later the owner puts him on VDV, and 25 minutes later the deal was done. Just pretend that VDV is Darren Bent and it will all make sense. If someone asks you how Rafael played, you just tell them it doesn't matter how he played, he just scores goals.

that being said, i dont have him - have adebayor instead, but hes looking tempting for that qpr home game in wk 10 - may see how he does against blackburn, just got a feeling it'll be the same story again (a good score - subbed early - this kind of conversation again)

This forward's article is timely with all that chat about who to pick for your front 3.
Interesting to see Roonpig, RVP and Sturridge lead the way in the Goal threat table. Sturridge and Rooney also fill the top 3 places for ppg too: 8 and 9.3 respectively.

Whilst the fixtures favour Suarez and Adebayor, I'm reluctant to remove the aforementioned strikers from my team.

    Any thoughts?

Roonpig, RVP and Sturridge are my front line.

Nothing I've read here today would convince me to change them over the mid term.

Suarez is a constant source of frustration and Ade was extremely lucky to pick up the second assist last week.

So I'm sticking with what I have. πŸ™‚

agbonlahor is in the mix for me too - with the fixtures this week there's the possibility for at least one of the above to get a hat trick

i dont have rooney, he may well score but i dont see him scoring 3 against city.

i also dont have any city defenders. if rooney does score while i dont have him, he takes 4 points off all my rivals with city defenders

There's a massive temptation to dump Nani for VDV, but it's only a matter of time until VDV gets crocked and then it'll all end in tears.

Any reason why i shouldn't go De Laet > Enrique tonight? Team at the moment is:

    Given
    Bosingwa Simpson Kompany
    Sinclair SWP Ramsey Silva
    Suarez RVP Sturridge

subs - Vorm, Moses, Shawcross, De Laet

Would likely drop Kompany and start Enrique. Have plenty in the bank so might consider upgrading SWP too for a hit later in the week.

    What ya reckon? Sound ok?

I can just about afford SWP > Gerrard so that might be one to consider.

Although my defence looks a bit too expensive Kompany is highly unlikely to get a clean sheet this week and Simpsons place may well be under threat so i may actually need Enrique.

Are you right on the borderline with the transfers or do you have spare cash to cover the price rises? I'd rather wait as VDV is always a hamstring waiting to happen at times.

I'd have 0.0m left in the bank if i did De Laet & SWP > Enrique & VDV tonight. However i may just get Enrique for now and then see how it goes. I could then still get VDV as he shouldn't go up in price before the deadline.

I haven't taken any transfer hits so far this season and it seems to have served me well so may not even bother with VDV. They are playing the Rovers after all πŸ™‚

Me? I play one exp def and rotate around that player. Must have form and fix on their side though.

Jafalad! As you're on and I'm awake what do you think to my team?

Was thinking just Balotelli>Suarez to give me:

    Hennessey
    Simpson Warnock Naylor
    Bannan Nani VDV Silva
    Suarez RVP(c) sturridge

    Begovic Hoolahan Tierney ShawX

    All opinions obviously welcome!

Yes I like the balance of your team particulalry weighted to score in midfield and upfront. For me, Ballotelli represents a bit of a risk in FPL.

You might want to consider Enrique for ShawX too as you have doubled up on STK in defence although you might as well wait now with STK's better fix coming up.

      Best of luck! πŸ˜›

        Why Hennessy?

Stoke keep cleanies so I understand Bego, but Hennessy?

Not kept a cleanie in the last 5. I'd swap him for Vorm who is world class, especially at home.

he justs rotates sooooo well with Begovic, I know they've not kept a cleanie in forever, but it's more a hope/risk than a sensible choice to be honest haha

Rotation should be judged on how many clean sheets you will get, not just who's playing at home.

Swansea at home are (so far) invincible, and Stoke at home are (so far) too.

So although they don't rotate perfectly until the end of time, I've gone for Vorm and Bego for the foreseeable. It's worked out so far and is better than Vorm/Given looking at the fixtures.

cheers man I appreciate that advice, just WC'd though and will have other stuff to sort out in the foreseeable future, but if a couple more games go by without Wolves CS' I'll look to switch to the Vorminator!

Balotelli was a one week god for me, will get rid now! Would love Enrique as well, may well look to bring in in GW10 now. Thanks! Night πŸ™‚

With Chelsea look s hit hot tonight and no Sturridge is it a bit of a risk to get him in?

When torres comes back he might beckon a rotation risk...

Do you think? From my limited knowledge of Chelsea i thought Sturridge had been playing wide right of a front 3 with him and Mata flanking a central striker, either Drogba or Torres thus far. I thought it was Anelka who was the main threat to Sturridge

Said he might lol, just a thought. But yes your view makes total sense. At that price hes the best option anyways...

Not really. AVB has earmarked Sturridge for a wide position in a front 3 playing around Torres. Good to see Mata not playing tonight.

10-4 for sure On that one good buddy. I was waiting to see Sturridge not play, but ctrl+f'ing this I see everyone and their mama is throwing him in. I think the gravy trin ends this week...But only for a week for him. Sticking with Welbeck since I didnt' see him play last night either. I will be rewarded!

Would like a replacement for young. Considering mata or gerrard. This would then allow me to upgrade anderson. Already have silva

What option do you reckon is best? or should i stick with him
