Continuing our series of “Monitor” articles for Members, we turn our attention to Liverpool’s Dirk Kuyt. Following on from last week’s analysis of Jamie O’Hara and Matt Etherington, the idea is to analyse those proven Fantasy talents who have, for one reason or another, failed to produce the goods this time round and, looking at our own ICT Index and the Opta stats, determine whether an upturn may be just around the corner.
Following a stuttering start to the season, the last two weekends have seen Kuyt complete both games for Liverpool. A 2-0 derby win at Everton saw him replace Jordan Henderson on the wing in a 4-4-2, then, perhaps significantly, the return of Steven Gerrard against Man United afforded Kuyt a chance wide right up top, with Andy Carroll remaining on the bench for the entire match.
It remains to be seen just how much of a role he’ll have as the season unfolds but, given his 13 goals and 8 assists last time round, Kuyt can clearly produce, particularly if he gets the nod ahead of Carroll and is given a chance to produce alongside Suarez.
