The first week of qualifying inthe inaugeral FIFFSA 5-a-side World Cup got off to a flyer with several results of note. Egypt, one of the least experienced teams, came through the first week with flying colours, posting the fifth highest score of any team (333) and they are now sitting pretty at the top of the CAF qualifying group. This sets up a tantalising clash with The Seychelles.

The highest team score of the week award goes to Costa Rica with 351. They needed it too as their opponents Malaysia posted a very respectable 321. This would have been enough to have beaten most sides last week.

The average score for teams last week was 304.8. If your team scored more than that that you can consider yourselves unlucky if you lost – or extremely lucky if you squeezed out a win with a score lower than that.

Player of the week goes to Cylus11 of Croatia who posted a mammoth 92 points, as he led them to a 79-point victory over France

The award for worst substitution must go to Uruguay who benched Chenku who scored a massive 78 points after hits. This cost Uruguay the win in a tight match-up. This narrowly beat the benching of Jacknap by India as although they benched a greater number of points India still came away with the win.

Off the pitch, Tony Hibbert wins the award for best press conference revealing the Republic of Ireland’s elite pre-season training methods that would set them up for the tournament.

We also had the saga of the missing England players gone AWOL. If you are reading this and you belong to team England please make yourself known.

In fact the sheer quantity and quality of the pressers is too high to bring up here. But keep it up it is an invaluable part of the tournament and keeps it alive.

A full run-down of last week’s results can be found here:

Gameweek 2 Preview

We are looking forward to the second week of qualifying taking place this weekend, which includes a big South American match-up between Brazil and Argentina. Both sides which have tallied over 145,000 points between them in their Fantasy Premier League careers so it should live up to its billing.

Another big local derby is Germany against Poland, who will be desperate to get off the mark after losing their Gameweek 1 match against Portugal. Germany in contrast will be in confident mood after despatching Bosnia and Herzegovina.

A full list of the fixtures this week can be found here:

Fixtures FIFFSA

A more detailed summary of this can be found on the player history tab which includes the rank history of every player in the tournament and our team sheets and tables spreadsheet.

Further Information

A quick reminder of the format. Each Gameweek teams will pick a team of five players to go head to head with their opposite nation. The match will then be decided by the aggregate score of each team’s Gameweek scores after hits have been accounted for. This week’s games can be found here.

Captains are required to submit their team sheets to fiffsa.exec@gmail.com by 2300 (GMT) by the Friday of each Gameweek otherwise their sixth player will be automatically benched.

Live scorecards will be up shortly before the early kick-off on Saturday at our score centre spreadsheet.

If you have any further queries, feel free to ask below in the comments or email us at: fiffsa.exec@gmail.com

Just had a quick look at the CONMEBOL table and scores this round. Seriously close after this week. Argentina on 6 points and Brazil on 0 points, everyone else on 3 points.

Or will bonus points help Brazil past Argentina and make it all square on 3 points?

I'm not sure how up-to-date the latest scores are, but based on the current scores posted it looks like the Seychelles v Egypt game could be decided our squadron of Morenos.

If my calcs are correct i think you win by around 330-325 after our 16pts of hits. Those Aldys off the bench for you really helped as well!

Thankfully for the USA, the only game that matters, Cuba, is up next for us to focus on!

Israel seems to have been narrowly defeated by the English team.
A high scoring draw against Rep. of Ireland last time out and a closely contested match against England has completely exhausted us. Time to recharge our batteries and have a go again next week. We feel a bit unlucky in that that even after scoring well in both the matches, we couldn't win either of them. But that's football for you. Or should I say, fantasy football for you !!!

Congratulations to the England team. And all the best for further matches.

    ***FIFFSA Update***

I have refreshed the scoresheets in line with Balders' instructions and the scores have updated. However, I'm not sure the spreadsheet has picked up all the final scores yet as I know it is showing the wrong score for my team at least. Sorry if the champagne has to stay on ice a little longer and thank you for your patience.

Congratulations to the Tahitian team on defeating us this week. It was a great game and you deserved your victory.

To my fellow team members. I can confirm our leader is pleased with our effort and has allowed us an extra three days stay on this beautiful island. He did however add that a defeat in the next game was out of the question. !.

Just wanna reconfirm with Team Bhutan's captain, did we really won against you guys with a mere 2 points difference or I messed up anything on the calculation part. Cheers.

I'll await formal verification before cracking open the Brains SA and indulging in some choral singing but that's excellent news. Lets get qualified and relax for the last few group games.

A quick glance at the Croatia team suggests the next match should be an interesting one - some great and unusual captain choices from them this week including Ozil and Barkley.
