West Ham pair Victor Moses and Manuel Lanzini are early concerns for Saturday’s home encounter with Stoke. Man City’s worries in midfield are heightened by Fernando’s weekend withdrawal, whilst Norwich are sweating on the fitness of playmaker Wes Hoolahan.

Aston Villa

In the wake of Aston Villa’s 1-1 draw at the St Mary’s Stadium, Remy Garde offered an update on the fitness of three players, Leandro Bacuna, Rudy Gestede and Carlos Sanchez, who were substituted late in the second-half:

“I don’t know yet with Leo Bacuna. Hopefully it won’t be too bad. We have to wait until Monday to find out. I don’t think it’s too bad with Rudy Gestede – he got a kick on his knee. He didn’t play too much in the previous weeks. In his first game he had a good attitude and fought very well. He was more tired than injured probably. Carlos Sanchez got a kick in the eyes. It’s not too bad but he had to come off. Hopefully it won’t be too bad for the players who came off today.”

Bournemouth
Sylvain Distin sat out Bournemouth’s trip to Chelsea due to illness, with Simon Francis fielded at centre-half in the Frenchman’s absence.

Manchester City
Fernando left the field of play in the second half at the Britannia Stadium (after they’d used all three subs) because of a hamstring complaint.

Yaya Toure has made a quick recovery from the knock that forced him to miss the weekend trip to Stoke and, having returned to training earlier this morning, has been included in the midweek Champions League squad against Borussia M’Gladbach as City look for a win that would see them finish top of their qualifying group. Martin Demichelis is ruled out with a minor problem as City’s concerns in defence continue.

Pellegrini confirmed, however, that Sergio Aguero won’t be available to face the German outfit:

Aguero has an injury which means he can’t work. He needs time to recover – it’s not serious, it’s a pain injury.”

Manchester United
Paddy McNair and Morgan Schneiderlin both picked up niggling injuries against West Ham United. The former has travelled with the squad ahead of their match-up against Wolfsburg on Tuesday, while the latter couldn’t recover in time.

“Paddy McNair has an ankle problem and Schneiderlin is a little bit stiff in the hip, so we have to wait and see as always on that.”

Norwich City
Wes Hoolahan sustained a knee problem during Norwich’s 1-1 draw against Arsenal in Gameweek 14 so was sidelined for their trip to Vicarage Road. Although the initial scans were ominous, Alex Neil said further assessments have been more promising:

“We hope so. I didn’t want to say anything too much pre-match to give the opposition an advantage. Hopefully he should be okay. It’s a problem just behind the back of his knee, he did it in the last game. We got it scanned and it didn’t show up too well but we have had it assessed and it is looking more promising.”

Southampton
Fraser Forster is stepping up his rehabilitation program in an attempt to return to action early next year. Ronald Koeman said that the next step for the English shot-stopper – who’s now training with the other keepers – is a run-out for Southampton’s U21 outfit:

“Fraser Forster is doing well. Thursday morning he was with the rest of the goalkeepers doing the session and I think already it is ten days that he had four or five good goalkeeper sessions with Dave Watson. The planning is that he will be part of the sessions in the next two weeks. The first game will be in the under-21s or we have to organise a friendly but it’s difficult because we need to play a lot in the next couple of weeks. He’s doing well, he’s really confident and everybody is happy how Fraser did his time and his mentality to come back as soon as possible.”

Elsewhere in the Saints’ camp, Koeman said that Victor Wanyama was replaced because of an ankle problem:

“I didn’t speak to Victor. He was a little bit with his ankle and we have to wait.”

Sunderland
Lee Cattermole was absent for Sunderland’s road encounter against Arsenal by virtue of his ongoing back issue flaring up.

Swansea City
Eder was a no-show for Swansea City’s defeat to Leicester City, with reports suggesting that he’s suffered ankle ligament damage.

West Brom
Stephane Sessegnon bowed out at the 44-minute mark of West Bromwich Albion’s home tie against Tottenham Hotspur after pulling up with a hamstring injury.

West Ham United
Victor Moses lasted just 37 minutes at Old Trafford before succumbing to a hamstring injury. Slaven Bilic said that – despite it being too early to present a prognosis – the early signs are worrying:

“It’s still too early, but it doesn’t look good again. It’s a hamstring – he felt it and we had to take him off. It’s a big blow for us, but we have to stay positive as some of the players maybe have a chance of being back for the Stoke game. If not Stoke, then Swansea.”

Manuel Lanzini didn’t feature against the Red Devils following a knock in training, but Hammers’ co-chairman David Gold reckons he could return to face Stoke City this weekend:

“I’m optimistic that Lanzini will be available for Stoke but we must wait till Tuesday for the scan on Victor.”

Anyone else struggling this season? Worse season I've ever had up to this point, currently languishing at 1.2mil! Still confident I can manage a top 20k finish at least, but it's a long way away at this point.

What are people's thoughts on tactics from here on out? I feel like my team needs some big changes, and i'm considering taking some hits to get it to a point where I actually feel happy with it.

Turning point in the season was stupidly getting rid of Mahrez for Mane after the game where he was dropped. He has absolutely killed me since then. Too late to get him back in with the upcoming fixtures? Or just bite the bullet.

    Team is

    Hennessey/McCarthy
    Kolarov/van Dijk/Francis/Dawson/Ward
    Deulofeu/Mane/DeBruyne/Ozil/Westwood
    Kane/Lukaku/Vardy

Any thoughts would be appreciated, cheers lads...

Bite the bullet I reckon. You've still got the everton boys tonight so that may help. The rest of your team is almost identical to mine! (I have Mahrez and different keepers) , just keep going most of the guys in my work league have used their bench boost and triple captain already, so they ma help you later on in the season.

      1. Flycroft
        • 15 Years
        10 years, 2 months ago

Hmm ok thanks. Just feel at this point whats the point of getting him back in when the fixtures are turning. Now is the time to gamble on him not scoring and having a differential in his place surely...

      • 16 Years
      10 years, 2 months ago

I wouldn't worry about differentials as such, just pick who you think will score the most points. If you think Mahrez will keep up the scoring, get him in. Don't just cut your nose off to spite your face

      def is weak IMO
Not sure about Deulofeu, don't think he's going to be consistent enough
      Get rid of Mane immediately

    Myhill / McCarthy
Bellerin, Moreno, van Dijk / Nyom, Muniesa
de Bruyne, Özil, Mane, Mahrez / Gosling
    Kane, Lukaku, Vardy

    1 FT, 5.9 ITB

    A) Save FT
    B) van Dijk ---> Alderweireld/Smalling

Random stat about current world #1

He captained Kolarov in both week 6 and 7 getting a total of ZERO points for BOTH weeks combined.

He's basically had very mediocre captains the entire time but scored highly in the weeks that counted.

At 8M he could be very handy value.

It's hard to trust Silva's body (not that Ramsey is the most robust) and I think with the options City have now Pelle will start him from the bench every now and then. I see frustration...

I wouldnt say its a one off - he is playing in the position which he should always be playing in! great player and will be seeing more performances like that over the course of the season

The stats produced are exceptional, and as far as I can remember, he hasn't really featured at cm this year. He's been farmed out to the right. For these reasons it is a one-off.

I make the point in my post that we've seen him do it before when given the chance.

      • 12 Years

He was doing it before he got injured too, just this time the input was backed up with output

He was producing these stats from RW?

Stats posted above by SMN show a stark contrast between this performance and some of the KPIs he was producing previously.

          10 years, 2 months ago

Well the one game stats are obviously other-worldly as were Wijnaldum's for his haul and Kane for his hat-trick, but the baseline numbers are still really good stats.

Yeah, that's definitely true. Huge upturn, which is what piqued my interest. The fact that that is allied to the switch to his preferred natural position.

If he can move substantially from the first set of figures at RW towards these numbers, without hitting them, you would expect returns to flow.

Hey guys, what do you think of Darmian now as a defensive option? Many injuries to Utd defenders so he should be guaranteed starter now?

As an owner, I sure hope he will be quarantined a start - especially if he can get back to his early season form. LvG is unpredictable though, so might be risky given the busy Christmas schedule.

All said, I do think he will be nailed for the coming GWs with good options for CS and maybe even an attacking return.

      Biased :/

Think I might play my WC this week. Can't see a better time. Set myself up for Christmas. Even if it's only sorting out my defence and 5th mid.

There's no real change in fixtures though. My bench is pretty poor at the minute too. It'll set me up nicely for the busy schedule.

Agreed. I still have mine as well and saving for as long as possible.

Of course I also want the opportunity to get Kun in later on.

Save for later (Christmas period injuries) and take a hit or two in the following GWs if needed imo.

            Aaaaah I see.

Still don't think it is worth WCing now looking at your team.

As Balders mentioned wait to see injuries, returns from injuries and current form around Christmas.

Of course I don't know your plans/how many differentials you want if your are chasing.
