There’s been plenty of work going on behind the scenes at FantasyBet this week. The most important change is the introduction of multiple entry games, which are listed in the game picks section below – essentially, it’s also now possible to enter two teams in the Fantasy Football Scout Picks league.

They’ve also updated the “create a game” page – if you have any queries or feedback for the FantasyBet team get in touch at support@fantasybet.com.

If you are unfamiliar with FantasyBet it is particularly accessible for those who play Fantasy Premier League, as it uses the same initial player prices and has a similar scoring system.

Check out this video to see how team creation works.

MY TEAM

This is the team I will play in the weekly free-roll game, which covers all ten fixtures:

Jack Butland (4.5m)
Toby Alderweireld (5.5m)
Aleksandar Kolarov (6m)
Alberto Moreno (5m)
Kevin De Bruyne (10.5m)
Marko Arnautovic (6m)
Matt Ritchie (5.5m)
Mesut Ozil (8.5m)
Romelu Lukaku (9m)
Harry Kane (9.5m)
Olivier Giroud (8.5m)

KEY PICKS

Jack Butland The Potters shot stopper continued a remarkable run of form against Manchester City last time out, registering a sixth shut out in eight Gameweeks. A trip to West Ham bodes well for Butland’s prospects of further defensive returns this weekend, with the Hammers down to the bare bones up top after Victor Moses and Manuel Lanzini joined Dimitri Payet and Diafra Sakho on the sidelines.

Toby Alderweireld The ex-Atletico central defender has settled in quickly at Spurs, with two goals and a pair of assists to his name already. A clean sheet against Chelsea in their last home match bodes well for Tottenham’s prospects against a Newcastle side that have scored just three times in seven road trips thus far.

Marko Arnautovic A brace against Manchester City brought the Austrian’s total to five strikes in just 14 appearances – his best goal tally in three seasons. Involved in over 50% of Stoke’s goals so far, Arnautovic looks in fine form as he pays visit to a West Ham side that’s managed one clean sheet in ten and is devoid of injured skipper Winston Reid.

Olivier Giroud A midweek hat-trick at Olympiacos was the first time the Frenchman has netted more than once in a match this term, though a goal every 90 minutes in the league and Europe is a reassuring sign of consistency. Mesut Ozil’s mercurial support from midfield should help maintain Giroud’s momentum as the Gunners travel to basement-dwellers Aston Villa.

THIS WEEK’S GAME PICKS

As always the best place to start if you’re new to FantasyBet is the weekly freeroll, where you can set up a free team and compete against the team above for a £100 pot.

It is now possible to have multiple entries (up to five per contest) in the following games this week:

The Grand Saturday is FantasyBet’s biggest game, where your compete for a £1000 guaranteed prize pool on a £5.50 buy in.

There’s the Super Sunday game, which has £300 up for grabs, each team costs £3.30 to enter.

The Weekend Flash game is the other multiple entry tournament, this is £5.50 per squad with
a £150 guaranteed in pay-outs.

LAST WEEK

I earned a third-place finish in the free-roll last week – I captained Odion Ighalo and selected hat-trick hero Riyad Mahrez, while United duo Chris Smalling and David De Gea bagged clean sheets to ensure a high finish. With a similar team, Yabadabadabadu topped the £1000 pot with 85 points. I picked up £9 from the big pot and £6 from the Saturday double-up to leave £120.29 in the kitty.

THIS WEEK’S STAKE

I will enter The Grand Saturday contest, both of the £100 freerolls, the FFScout Picks League and the Super Sunday game for a total stake of £9.90.

In addition, I’ll be going up against Shaktimaan, the Community champion in this week’s Scout Picks. He will be taking me on in a specially set up head to head game for a chance to win free entry into a £400 Guaranteed ‘Big Weekly’ game worth £22.

Also, the Community Champion who beats the Scout Picks by the highest margin every month will win a free entry into the £500 guaranteed ‘Boss’ game worth £55. The Scouts beat Jose’s Magic Omelette by 45 to 32 points last week.

FFSCOUT PICKS LEAGUE

Reedy topped last week’s Scout Picks League with 85 points – a double-up of Watford duo Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney matched Riyad Mahrez’ 21 points, and Aaron Ramsey’s 11 points were the other notable contribution.

Once again, FantasyBet have provided a £100 pot for the FFScout Picks League – with a £1.10 stake for entry, it is now possible to enter two teams into this contest. I will enter our Scout Picks as closely as possible, given a 15-man squad is required with the 100m budget and a captain also needs to be selected.

Feel free to go up against them this week and pick your own squad on FantasyBet.

i have an identical 8 for this weekend, i'm leaning towards vardy.

my thinking is vardy's pace will be ineffective against the chelsea bus.
plus mourinho will have a plan to stop vardy

tougher to stop mahrez as he ghosts into many positions

Yeah but his plan will probably involve Terry who has looked awful against pace this season. I'd go with the others on Deulofeu.

Has he shown any indication that he'll score loads? At least with Aguero you know he'll work his socks off anytimr he's on the pitch. Costa always looks more likely to get sent off when things aren't going his way.

McCarthy > Lloris (main keeper DDG but don't fancy the clean sheet with 0 defenders in front of him)
    Vardy > Giroud

For me it depends if you're chasing or sitting pretty in your ML. Giroud could be a great differential this weekend and i would be a little unsure about DDG with no defence also. It's a bit of a maverick move but it could well pay off.

I don't comment very often on here but just wanted to say how much I enjoyed listening to this weeks Scoutcast! A lot of funny talk about the two things that frustrate me the most about FPL - awarding of assists and captains (in relation to the "playing the percentages").

Assists - so wish they would just change the rules on these. Whoever plays, touches or even sneezes on the ball last should just get the assist. That makes it as clear as it can be.

Captains - I hate captains! This feature does make you wish players you own don't do anything some weeks (if a rival has them as captain for example). This ruins the game slightly for me, I want to just cheer on every player I own!

Yeah - I've seen a few people mention that they'd like to see captains gone. It's one of the main arguments for including Aguero in your teams for example.

I'm not really sure which side of the fence I sit on.

Agree on assists, this would make it so much more clear cut. Think it used to be like that? Telegraph have an interesting system where the last touch player gets an assist but there could also be a second assist for a player making a "key contribution" before that. It seems fairer somehow, e.g. A player makes a great run and cross which is flicked on and then a goal. Both players would get 3 points.

I think OPTA decide the goal-scorers but FPL decide the assists.

But sometimes OPTA clearly get it wrong, so FPL ought to overrule the OPTA decision in such cases.

Some of FPL's decisions on when an assist is not an assist have been a bit dubious though, and something needs to be done to improve this situation.

An additional point for a key contribution is not a bad idea.

Sure in the last game of the season with everything riding on that one thing, but it's a bigger game than that. I don't think it breaks the game enough to remove the feature entirely.

It's just another dillemma, it can even happen in your own team. A midfielder you own could get an assist against a defender you also own who could have a CS and be on for 3bous. In that case you would also benefit If your midfielder had not gotten points, gaining 3 but losing 7, do we want to change the game because of this?

The idea of "second assists" sounds interesting but it should never come down to some ones opinion. The rules are a bit unbalanced. I'm with Granville on the deulofeu assist (that wasn't) this week. Very unfair that he wasn't rewarded for creating the goal.

the good thing about captaincy is that it is one way of differentiating between template sides.
When you have so many sides owning a large number of the same players double captaincy points is the only way to have any real differential between a large number of teams.
other ways do need to be looked at to break up template sides.e.g. you can only own each player for a % of the season, max. 2 players from 1 side, double bonus points for sides in the bottom half of the table each gameweek.

1 clean sheet point per 20 mins on the pitch for defenders. Stops the massive 59 to 60 mins swing, and gives you something to cheer on for your defender if he comes on as sub when more than 30 mins have gone. Also seems a fairer system.

There are also massive swings against defenders who keep a clean sheet for 60 minutes but then concede a late goal.

Perhaps defenders could be awarded 2 points for keeping a clean sheet for 60 minutes, plus a further 2 if they also manage to retain the clean sheet for an appearance of at least 90 minutes.

The captaincy makes the game more interactive and better than its peers like the telegraph game for example.

It's a differentiator and using the aguero example mentioned above will make teams different, both weekly and longer term.

Removing would server my weaken the game IMO.

Triple captains - meh, no bother.

Assists need to be less subjective which unfortunately would be what happens with the 'key contribution' rule. Unless clarified appropriately. For example they could say:-

Assists go to the last touch of he ball, however if that was a single touch the person passing to said player will get a key contribution.

We all remember the bale under boot and 'Rooney assists' a way to eliminate the swing from one to anothe is needed. I for one, would be happy with both having points in examples like that.

The other rule I would like to bring in would be that all players on the 'winning side' get a set amount of BPS as this would stop some players getting bonus when there team lost which always seems a bit off to me. Obvs if they scored 2 in a 3-2 loss they are one of the top 3 players but the single goal or assists in a losing game don't deserve the points IMO.

      1. Licious Lizard
        • 12 Years
        10 years, 9 days ago

I agree in most of what you are saying - EXCEPT the part about bonus points for the winning sides. I've played another fantasy game for some years and one of the main reasons I really prefer the official one is because of this. You can choose extraordinary players from loosing sides and still be rewarded. Choose invisible players from winning sides and get punished.

What you are suggesting would steer the game towards guessing the outcome of a game through a team perspective and not according to what players you think will play a key part in the game.

I certainly get the counter argument that a player from the winning side, who hasn't gotten baps, (probably) still played a part in his side winning. But if he hasn't had any attacking returns or enough good actions according to the bonus point system, then he should not be awarded in my opinion.

A player from a losing side can easily have played a much better game than one from a winning side, which is why the BPS is built in the way it is. I honestly can't see you point at all.

Keep the current bonus point system and keep forcing the managers to look at players and not just random people from a winning team.

        1. buffrey
          • 12 Years
          10 years, 9 days ago

Just to clarify I wasn't suggesting people from a winning team should get bonus points, just that they should get an additional number of BAPS added to their totals to see who gets the points. So Someone doing nothing will still most likely get nothing whether they win or not. And someone playing exceptional on a losing no team will also still get points, but I feel that if someone has made a contribution to a win it should mean more than if hey made that contribution to a loss, as frankly it wasn't enough to turn the game.

I'm not questioning your point and accept you have a different outlook but I personally just don't like losing teams players getting the max bonus when in pretty much everyone's eyes the MOM would most likely have been from the winning side as he would have pushed them over the line

How about getting to choose 2 players as captain and the higher scorer gets double points for your team?

Eliminates some random luck and keeps excitement up...perhaps heightens it depending on your VC strategy.

cap pts can be the difference of winning and losing, some say good judgement, some say lucky
this week in my ml all top 8 had lukaku, myself and one other had him cap,all others had him in team, of course they didnt want him to do anything as we gained more, thats what spoils it when people dont want a player to do well, so i understand the for and against
assists, most would say the last player to touch it before goalscorer, but some people hate it when its not a deliberate pass, an it deflected of another player for assist, so again i understand both sides of the argument, bonus pts, maybe players get extra if team draws wins etc, like 1pt for draw, 2 pts per player for win, cant argue over them , result is there for all to see, always a debate on bps. like how barry got 3 last week !

Official definition of "an assist" in other sports:

In ice hockey, an assist is attributed to up to two players of the scoring team who shot, passed or deflected the puck towards the scoring teammate, or touched it in any other way which enabled the goal, meaning that they were "assisting" in the goal. There can be a maximum of two assists per goal.

In basketball, an assist is awarded only if, in the judgement of the statistician, the last player's pass contributed directly to a made basket. An assist can be awarded for a basket scored after the ball has been dribbled if the player's pass led to the field goal being made.

A system without captains makes it too easy to cancel people out, people could theoretically gain a lead in a league and then just buy players that others in their league own and cancel them out.

Some people still use this method (I've been known to do it for the last few weeks of the season) but captaincy gets around that and allows risky people to get a chance and catch up.

i think player prices should change more sharply, BUT those prices should only change at the deadline to the next gameweek, after the refresh/update. then maybe increase the point hit to 5 points to counter-balance this somewhat. this way the manager who waits until friday night/saturday morning doesnt have to pay extra, also a great pick can be a differential that little bit longer and if not others really have to pay for it

I read this in an article posted by the FFS :

"Prices go up and down based on a variety of factors including form, injuries, suspensions, fixtures etc"

I have no idea if his form/fixtures changes the sales needed for him to fall. To be honest the price changes are a bit of a mystery to me as well.

PS. I chose to not to wait any longer and sell him yesterday because I thought his price would drop.

    DDG
Bertrand Smalling* Monreal (Simpson, O shea)
    Ozil Kbd Mane Couts (Drinkwater)
    Lukaku Ighalo Kane

    Already used FT. Worth smalling->Moreno?
Or save and play O shea/Simpson?

I doubt he could be classed as Spurs coverage.

Kane move most likely more profitable this week. But as an Aguero owner I'm hanging on to him rather than worry about getting him back around Christmas

Long term Kane, short term (until Sanch is back and rotation is a risk) Giroud.

Anyone know when the Pressers are for City and Liverpool?

Or have any news re Aguero or Coutinho? Been out of the loop for a couple of days so don't even know if Coutinho played in Europa.
