Once again the “Frisking” of the fixture list signals the start of the countdown towards another gameweek. The brief is simple – we take the fixtures, block off a month or so, and then tell you the teams with the strongest and weakest schedule in front of them. Newcastle and Demba Ba then proves us all wrong.

The Strong

Arsenal

Robin Van Persie is ablaze, Theo Walcott is hinting at consistency, Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta are providing the creative spark. In attacking terms, things couldn’t be much better for Arsene Wenger’s side. Fantasy managers surely need to get on board with at least one of these assets, as the fixture list suggests that the goals will go on flowing.

West Brom pay visit to the Emirates this weekend having looked wholly unconvincing against Liverpool on Saturday. The Gunners seem an obvious source of returns this weekend, and with Norwich, Fulham and Wigan to come after that, it’s hard to deny Van Persie’s recent claims that he feels he will score in every game. After last season’s run of goals – he has the pedigree to go on delivering and the fixtures to assist him.

Stoke

Monday night’s 3-1 defeat to Newcastle will serve as a setback but there’s no denying that Tony Pulis’ side have the fixtures in front of them to prompt a rapid recovery.

A trip to Bolton shouldn’t carry any fear for the Potters. Even with a questionable attacking threat away from home, they will fancy themselves against the obliging Bolton defence. Following that, both QPR and Blackburn visit the Britannia for matches that offer real promise for goals and clean sheets.

While Jon Walters continues to earn interest having been assigned spot-kick duties, it’s the defensive prospects that are likely to tempt Fantasy managers. Asmir Begovic and Ryan Shawcross have obvious appeal, although the sight of skipper Shawcross limping from the field early on in last night’s game will cause concern for Pulis and his Fantasy owners alike. We’re still waiting on news from the Stoke camp on that – we know it’s a muscle injury, but little else.

With Shawcross perhaps looking at a spell on the sidelines and Marc Wilson also nursing a knock from the Newcastle defeat, there is a need for caution. Stoke’s defence could be facing upheaval for the trip to Bolton, although the international break will then hopefully give Pulis the opportunity to nurse back his injury doubts.

Andy Wilkinson could benefit from the casualties; he seems to have cemented the right-back role and with Robert Huth perhaps needed to fill in alongside Jonathan Woodgate or Matt Upson, his start looks secure.

Everton

Leighton Baines is back in the game. Having promised so much going into the season and, having seen the departure of Mikel Arteta’s craft at set-pieces boost his Fantasy appeal, the fixture list has denied him the opportunity for big returns. This is now about to change with Everton set to embark on a kind run of opponents that must surely bring the foraging full-back to our attention.

A price drop to 7.8 in the Fantasy Premier League game will make him slightly more palatable, but it’s the fixtures that do most to convince. Once the Toffees get this weekend’s trip to Newcastle out of the way, they have four home matches in six with Wolves, Stoke, Norwich and Swansea all visiting Goodison.

Fleet-footed winger Royston Drenthe will also require monitoring over that spell as Everton at last come alive as a Fantasy prospect, having spent weeks off the radar.

Tottenham

Six wins in seven for Tottenham – like their North London rivals, the form is outstanding right now. Similarly, the fixture list suggests that there’s every chance for continued returns.

Those Fantasy managers mulling over whether to chase Rafael Van der Vaart’s recent avalanche of points should consider the cost of further hesitation. Short of injury, it’s difficult to conceive that the Dutchman, like Van Persie, will fail to continue delivering consistent returns in the month ahead.

Aston Villa, Bolton and Sunderland are the next three sides at White Hart Lane, whilst Harry Redknapp will take promising away form to West Brom and Norwich before gameweek 19. An away trip to Stoke in gameweek 15 looks tough but even the home encounter with Chelsea in gameweek 17 appears to promise attacking returns.

Also Consider…

Sunderland – Ignore the trip to Old Trafford this weekend and the Black Cats have a rather enviable little schedule in front of them, which should see Steve Bruce improve on their current league position. Three home games in four, with Fulham, Wigan and Blackburn at the Stadium of Light, will likely find them amongst our “Strong” selection next week as plans for investment are hatched.

Bolton – Owen Coyle’s side are floundering but the Trotters’ boss can at least take comfort from the upcoming fixture list and start plotting a route to mid-table. Three Reebok encounters in the next five bring Stoke, Everton and Villa to their door – all matches that could fetch goals to boost the Fantasy reputation of Martin Petrov and Chris Eagles that little bit more.

Man United – While Fantasy managers start to fidget uncomfortably at the prospect of further blanks from Wayne Rooney and Nani, the fixture list presents a reason to show patience. Three Old Trafford encounters in the next five offer Alex Ferguson’s men the opportunity to build on the 1-0 win at Goodison. It might just be worth holding tight to their big assets and assess them again following the weekend clash with Sunderland.

The Weak

Newcastle

Monday’s superb victory at Stoke offered good indication of just how far Newcastle have come. The Magpies are in dreamland, sitting snugly on the tail of the Manchester clubs, with Alan Pardew fighting to stave off talk of European football. However, while the form and league placing is outstanding, we’ve every reason to show caution for the month ahead given Newcastle’s schedule.

As we stressed in last week’s “Frisking”, we have our doubts that the Magpies can carry resolute defensive form into November. Everton will test the St James’ Park rearguard this weekend and, after the break, Pardew takes his side to City and United, before a home clash with Chelsea – clean sheets look very unlikely on that run.

As for Demba Ba, there’s little doubt that he presents outstanding value but, following the Everton game, he will surely find it difficult to further his reputation given the opposition in front of him. It’s another classic form versus fixtures scenario.

Fulham

Martin Jol’s side continue to frustrate. There’s Fantasy talent in their ranks but, so far, only Clint Dempsey has even hinted at delivering consistent returns. The 2-0 win at Wigan last time out may give Jol something to build upon but the Dutchman now takes his side into a tricky four-game run, starting with the visit of in-form Tottenham this weekend.

Trips to Sunderland and Arsenal then follow – neither of which appear to offer too much promise. That is then followed by a home encounter with Liverpool to kick off December. All in all, the prospects of Fulham actually stringing together some positive results and decent Fantasy returns remain fairly bleak.

Also be wary of…

Liverpool – Jose Enrique is picking up investment this week but, in the short-term, his potential may be limited to attacking thrusts. Fail to keep a clean sheet against the Swans and we don’t see defensive returns for a while with Chelsea, City and a trip to Fulham to follow.

Norwich – Fantasy managers clinging to cheap defensive options within Paul Lambert’s squad have little cause for optimism in the coming weeks. The gameweek 13 home clash with QPR looks the best prospect, but trips to Villa Park and City, with Arsenal at Carrow Road in gameweek 12, creates a testing schedule.

Swansea – The Swans rely on home displays to maintain their form and league placing but, with United at the Liberty next, this could be a difficult month for Brendan Rodgers’s side. Trips to Liverpool this weekend, and Blackburn in gameweek 14, will likely mean that Swansea will need to find rewards from the gameweek 13 home clash with Villa.

Aston Villa – Alex McLeish’s outfit also have a daunting November ahead of them. This weekend’s visit of Norwich looks vital; slip up there and Villa then have testing trips to Tottenham and Swansea, followed by a home clash with United.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Ramsey is NOT a must have, but I have to agree that at his price he is a very good punt. Often he is playing just behind RVP, he was quite unlucky to get nothing out of the chelsea game.

I think he is superb value. Better than someone like Walters IMO

He's only better than Walters if they play the direct game every match, and I'm still not convinced they can do that. I don't think he deserved much at all out of Chelsea, he was quite peripheral at best, as far up the field as he plays he doesn't seem willing to join in the speed element or really be an assist hawk. With each match as well he is zeroing in on being the person that's subbed out.

Tofu to me, until he gets me an assist and a goal in a match

I'd say the only reason he is getting subbed early is because he is young and important to the team, and Wenger doesnt want to risk an injury.

That goal and assist are not far off, believe me.

RVP is the only arsenal player to have

Ramsey looked poor without RVP on the pitch so if robin is rested the rest of the team are clueless.

But when RVP plays, someone's going to assist him. Ramsey will chip in with a few goals over the course of the season too. For £6.whatever he's good value I think.

Ramsey was our best against Chelsea despite RVP's hatrick and has been amazing the last 3-4 weeks.

I think you´ll be ok, Sunderland are progressing faster defensively than they are offensively; shape-wise. I'm thinking Welbeck for one, now that he'll be doing a Hoilett impression and Rooney has at least three unsuccessful free kick attempts. I'm hoping that RVP (I'm calling Gervinho for a brace this week) cools off for at least one more week, as that voice in my head says hang on to Suarez for one more week.

Im seriouly considering Odemwingie from week 12

    Good fixtures
    Good differential
Consideirng his goals record for west brom his price is decent for a striker at 7.3million.

Main question mark is can he get a good run of games as he has had a few injuries early in the season.

Ramsey is no different to Moses. Both are good players but not that great FPL wise (well, Ramsey is mediocre FPL wise but Moses is terrible!). But seriously though, a 6.5m player who scores nothing when his team scores 5 goals isn't worth it, in my opinion.

He was influential in a lot of play on the weekend and in most recent games and is playing in an advanced role.

Exactly. I feel like people are judging him based on getting 2 points when his side scored 5, rather than watching the game (which I did). He was great and could have easily had an assist or two.

Trust me he is worlds apart from Moses, who gets 2 every week without fail. Not even sure how you could class them in the same bracket, shame on you! In both real life and fantasy, Ramsey>Moses.

Over 2 gameweeks (7&8), Man City scored 8 goals (4-0, 4-1) - Silva got one assist (7points), earlier in the season City beat Spurs 5-1, Silva was on the field for 90 minutes - he got 2 points

I guess you would've said "a 9.6m player who scores nothing when his team scores 5 goals isn’t worth it"

Current line-up is STaylor, Bosingwa, Shawcross (Kompany, de Laet)

My plan was(is) to bring Baines in next week - at the moment for Bosingwa (although I'll lose 0.4 on this if I ever want him back).

I haven't done any transfers this week yet and I have 2.7m in the bank.

Should I make a move for Baines this week (for the Bos) or bring him in for Kompany this week and bench STaylor - and then drop Bos for Kompany next week (stupid making 2 transfers for 1 move though).

Any ideas here? I'm happy with my mid/fwd line-up.

I think both have equal chance of assisting, and Chelsea have a marginally better chance of a clean sheet than Everton.

But if both are going to get you 2 points, whats the point in making the transfer this week? Baines might well get injured in the match, for instance, or other options that you prefer might become apparent

The really tragic thing in my opinion is that: if you're going to spend hundreds of hours developing a bogus online persona why only use it to deliver slightly self-satisfied FPL advice? Why not have a bit more fun with it? Feign a conversion to fundamentalist Hinduism, blog tearfully about your catastrophic erectile disfunction, have a laugh!

Playing high up the pitch in a team that's just put 5 past Chelsea. He doesn't have any set piece duties but he's normally involved somewhere in the goals Arsenal score, and gets his fair share of assists.

Also he's very cheap for a top 6 midfielder, likely to play every game. Better fpl potential than Cleverley who's too deep at times.

Ramsey is really coming of age in the Aresenal midfield, he is becoming integral to Arsenals style of play...Wenger sees him scoring double figures this season, I feel that in fantasy terms the best is yet to come from Ramsey. I personally also really like Drenthe, yes he still has a bit to prove, but Moyes has integrated and acclimatised him slowly...he is a fledgling in fantasy terms, but has the potential to be a high flyer. I have both in my team, plus Silva and VDV, with RVP, Rooney and Sturridge up-front.

i think you're alright with your current setup. no guarantee welbeck will play, you already have liverpool coverage (so no need for carroll), and chelsea aren't in great form, not to mention the fact that after his last couple of performances sturridge may start on the bench.

a further point is that ade could very well grab a couple of goals this weekend.

Don't get Gervinho, It's fantasy suicide what with him listed as a forward. You can get RVP and Ramsey if you want more than 1 player for Arsenal's good run. Gervinho is just not worth it this season, listed as a striker. So many other options out there, it's wasting a space imo.

im trying to find alternatives for Ade and Sturridge for week 12 onwards.

I have VDV so dont feel I need ade and sturridge alwyas seems to come off early in games and would rather have a player likely to play near 90 mins.

I have lined up Bendy as 1 to come in and have 9 million for another striker

        Best options ?

If we only knew the matches that would be open it wouldn't matter. I would agree with you but if you had Suarez since day one perspective sinks in. You're right in the since that this season more than any I've seen you CAN have a big three up front. But then what, you go to someone's midfield and they have two serious Mids and there's a drop-off. The position is only a label, and would say that Gervinho performs almost as good or better (lets consider the 'Barton set-back' for a moment) as a 8.9 mid, on that team. Don't get it twisted Demi, I am in agreement with you, but suicide, not sure. For a segment of owner...hell yes it can be suicide. You won't find me with him and RVP, but it is a better way of getting coverage than Arteta or in some cases Song. I like Ramsey but I don't think he's dialed into their walk the ball in the net or direct strategy yet. He seems caught in purgatory.

Hmm, i see where you're coming from and maybe me saying it was suicidal was a bit of an over exaggeration. It's just i really am totally against getting Gervinho this season. I mean if someone didn't have RVP, because they couldn't afford him, then i'd say it's reasonably acceptable. I just think with RVP, there's no need for another Arsenal striker in Gervinho as it limits the amount of options you can get from other teams. There's way too many good strikers to choose from this season, that getting them both is overkill imo. I agree, not really feeling Arteta or Song either. Ramsey has 4 assists and 1 goal so far, and i think his injury last season did something to him and he's not been the same player, but now he seems to be getting that touch and sharpness back, i think as the season goes on, the stronger Ramsey will become and he'll be more influential in terms of fpl points.

Ramsey has been very good lately anyway, both FPL wise and real-life wise.
I was honestly releaved when we relieved when we signed Arteta with Wilshere out as I thought Ramsey couldn't quite cut it as a main playmaker, but he has been fantastic last 3-5 games and has been a good FPL pick so far also.

In agreement on all points. After foolishly getting in Torres (too ealry) last week I was faced with not having enough to get RVP (didn't wanna dump Torres w/ fixtures coming, and didn't think RVP would keep up the blaze...wtf was I thinking?). And faced with the next best Arsenal coverage...Gervinho, I looked at him like my mom just showed me a pair of bootleg Jordans back in 1990. So you're point was made crystal clear there on me...at the end of the day he's labelled as a striker...sucks for us.

Assuming no negative price changes I can go

    Lopez > Kompany
    Gutierez > Allen
    Agbon > Bendtner

    for a 4point hit GW 12.

Logic, Lopez doesn't play, Gutierrez has bad fixtures after that, Agbon's fixtures aren't great whereas Bendtner looks interesting.

I could put Lopez > Kompany off until GW 13 to save the hit but only if Shawx is back. Otherwise stuck with Simpson in defense

    My defense: Given Vorm
    Lescott Bosingwa Gabbidon Wilkinson Simpson

I really want to downgrade Bosingwa this week to get VDV with my 2 freebies for GW12. I don't see anyone around 4.5m who is worth getting in. Have I missed anyone? Is maybe McAuley a better option?

I'd hold fire for one more week, I think Fat frank may be bench fodder this week, that changes the defensive landscape loads...5 behind the ball would allow him to put some kind of pressure on Rovers rather than 4 and covering someone else's ass. No way McAuley is a good option, unless maybe you'd hope for another set-piece let down, which I can't see happening. Maybe Tierney, I could see Villa giving Norwich loads of hope, free-kick opportunities and general playing-down to their opponents...bookies nightmare.

I'm not happy with Sturridge as my Cheleas cover, so I'm looking at Mata vs Lampard.

I'm completely not convinced on Mata, and looking through his points emphasises that - his goal was nice but I don't see him scoring many, so you're relying on assists. I don't want to rely on assists from a 9.6m player. His playing time is also a big worry, looking at his season so far.

Lampard, to me, seems to have overcome the early season doubts, bounced back from the OT horror show and benching against Swansea, and hit imperious form of old. That crazy QPR game could easily have seen another massive points haul for him had decisions / chances gone Chelsea's way. He could easily be averaging 10pts+ pg over the last 4 gws, and I'm worried that could continue... I see Lampard right now as the biggest differential in the game, and the next few months could be a season changer for managers brave enough to invest.

The big problme of course is cost... you could be looking at Lampard + Ade or Mata + Aguero for example. What combo would you rather have? Thoughts in general?

Mata is just coming good - I am expecting a big score from him this weekend and is a much more affordable mid if you want the likes of VDV and Silva as well IMO

Lamps looking good but v. expensive. If u want cheaper strikers then squeeze him in, but I don't think you can scrimp on strikers this season and progress.....

      Mata and Aguero for me.

Aguero will at least match Lampard in my books, and then you have Mata who hasn't lit up the game but has been steady, and 6 points a game is a nice return.

Sturridge shouldn't be seen as Chelsea 'cover' (still think its a stupid concept) - but rather as a 6.5m player who is playing for a top team and likely to get in amongst the goals on a semi-regular basis. Don't compare him to Mata/Lampard - he's comparable to Bendtner, Zamora, Agbonlahor, Ba. I would consider Ba and Zamora over him potentially, but I think over the season he'll outscore those players.

Overall its not a question of Sturridge OR Mata/Lampard, its Sturridge vs. those I mentioned and do I want Mata/Lampard vs. Silva/Nani/VdV etc

Yep totally agree, I've no intention of getting rid of Sturridge, it's more a case of not letting Sturridge hoodwink me into thinking I've got a top Chelsea player and that's enough.

The biggest question I feel is will Aguero really match Lamps on points over the season... that basically determines my transfer. It's a tough one but, right now, rotation threat for Aguero and Lamps' legendary FPL status season after season are leaning me his way.

I'm not totally against Lampard (I had him at the start of the season), but on a points-per-pound basis, I think you can do better.

That extra 2m can go a long way in the rest of your team.

I have Mata instead of Lamps, it seems to allow me a better balance in my team. As you rightly say he would be a good differential but im looking at it from the other side and thinking if he does score big then not many people have him anyway and getting him in would weaken my team in other areas.

Mata and Aguero every day of the week in my opinion.
Disregarding the QPR freakish game, Mata has assisted 4 in 4 aswell as a goal in that tally.
Swansea and QPR were the only game he has started and lasted less than 70 odd minutes, and they were both due to send-offs causing a re shuffle.
      Plus Aguero > Adebayor also.

I also think that the concept of 'coverage' is overrated. Even if Chelsea score goals, there's no guarantee that any one player will be involved. I'd look more at the individual merits of the player and only take the team into consideration for fixtures and if you don't want to double up on a team (and spread your bets).

I like Mata a lot, he seems to be the type of player who will pick up assists on a regular basis and the odd goal along with (hopefully) a couple of bonus points.

For me though, the problem isn't him, it's the other players in his price bracket - maiunly VDV, Silva and Nani - that make it hard for me to find a place for him in my team. To be honest, I would say that Mata is probably overpriced whereas the other 3 I mentioned are probably about right (with the exception of VDV who I think is 10m due to his history with injuries).

When you put Lampard into the equation, he looks overpriced to me as you can get players of his calibre for 1.5-2m less. Take into account the form of Aguero, RVP and Rooney and putting Lampard in alongside these players would mean the difference between cheaper midfielders/strikers around them who play and score and picking from the likes of Moses, Dyer, Pilkington/Holt/Graham/Best etc.

In summary Lampard is overpriced and I wouldn't go near him when I could have VDV/Silva/Nani. Mata is a good choice but only if one of those 3 are off form with bad fixtures/injured.

Right need a little bit of help guys

    Current team:

    Bergovic (Vorm)

    Jones, Enrique, Simpson (Wilkinson, Mcauley)

    Sliva, VDV, Ramsey, Walters (Allen)

    RVP, Ba, Rooney

What transfer(s) would you make this week?

    Ramsey > Larsson, Sess, Drenthe
    Walters > Larsson, Sess, Drenthe

Ba > Sturridge, other fwd 7.1 or less

I'm probably going to do Jones > Kompany in the next few weeks if Jones looks like hes not going to play every week.

Why would you get Ramsey or Walters out who have form and good fixtures for a Sunderland player who have Man Utd or Drenthe who has Newcastle away?
Also may as well keep Ba for this week as he is on a high and likely price rise out of him, then maybe swap for Bendtner for Sunderlands NICE fixtures.

Team looks great, save your transfer for the international break. Difficult to transfer bad out on current form, certainly not this week anyway. His fixtures toughen up after that so wait to see how sturridge does v blackburn and consider ba to bendtner or sturridge. But if ba scores well again it would be hard to get rid of him regardless of fixtures.

No, no, all you Man U fans out there (including myself), don't thank me, I'm doing this for the team ... I've finally bought in RVP six hundred weeks too late, and he will, naturally cease too score. I sold Rooney to do so ... so of course, he will shoot the lights out, beginning this weekend. No problem, Sir A. Let's have you back on track, even if your defence is creaking and your midfield bar Cleverly needs radical surgery ... you can go back to beating those old those old Sunderlands, and never mind losing to the Big Guns, you'll still take the Premier title. Don't sorry, City will disappear up their own hype soon enough (won't they?) I've already sorted out the challenge of Chelsea by bringing in Sturridge .. hah, that soon buggered up his good form. VdV hasn'tt quite worked yet, as I captained him last week and the so and so did very well ... how did i get that one right? Oh the power we wield, us FF lunatics, sell too soon, buy too late. Bosingwa? Hah, he has earned me -2 points for the last two games. Holt finally scores for Norwich, that time against Chelsea? hah, he was on my bench, so actually ruined my clean sheet scenario and his goal didn't count. Genius, don't you agree?
