A strong start to the new campaign suggested Nani had carried on the form that made the winger a near-essential acquisition in last season’s Fantasy game. The arrival of Ashley Young only seemed to spur the Portuguese star on to greater performances and while a return of 23 points in the 8-2 win against Arsenal had propelled Young into many a Fantasy team, the former Aston Villa player suffered from an inconsistency- the Gunners match is the only time he’s found the net so far.

Nani, on the other hand, was producing the goods with far greater regularity- 3 goals, 3 assists and 7 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points in his first six games returned 45 points, an average of 7.5 per game. Since then, though, his season has somewhat stuttered. In fact, scrap that – that’s underplaying the decline. Let’s be honest, Nani’s season has ground to a halt quite spectacularly since gameweek seven.

A loss of form has seen him play just one hundred and eighty-four minutes over the last four matches and with no goals, assists or bonus points, he’s picked up 7 Fantasy points; 1.75 per game. Priced at 10.1, he’s burning a hole in the budget of 26.2% of teams right now and while similarly-priced Rafael Van der Vaart tears up the top-flight and David Silva is producing consistent, if unspectacular returns, many are starting to ponder Nani’s value in their Fantasy squads.

Using our own ICT Index and the Opta stats available to our Members, we analyse just how his season has unfolded, paying particular attention to his performances in comparison with both Van der Vaart and Silva:

You're tripping son. He can score anywhere and as many times as he wants. I like the English League a lot more than la liga but saying that messi wouldn't do as good in the English League is rubbish. Put him on a team with a decent midfield and he'll work wonders.

Drenthe's going to be fired up this week with Heitinga on the pitch. Not sure whether that's a good thing!

However, with Fellaini suspended I'd wait till next week to get him in. Newcastle defence looked solid against Stoke on Monday and only a rash challenge by Demba Ba resulted in loss of clean sheet.

    My team:
    Given (Ruddy)

    Bosingwa Richards Enrique Simpson (L.Young)

    Silva VDV Moses (Barton) (Sinclair)

    Rooney Ade Sturridge

I have one free transfer this week and 1.5 in the bank. I want to work RVP in but i can't do that without taking at least an 8 point hit (unless I take him out for Rooney). I need to get rid of L.Young and Ade and possibly Bosingwa. Any suggestions will be very helpful.

      No Arsenal coverage?!

If you can't/won't bring in RVP then at least consider Ramsey.

Defence looks okay but I still think we (Everton) will score at Newcastle so I'd go for an extra-midfielder.

Anderson is a doubt for the weekend so I'd expect Rooney to start in the middle again.

Why would you want to get rid of Adebayor? Yes he had a shocker last game but he gets into decent positions and is eventually going to score.

I'd play your freebie getting rid of one of the midfielders for Ramsey. At home to West Brom is a must.

Cheers, thanks for the replies fellas. Yeah I might end up doing a direct switch Rooney-RVP and maybe even get Ramsey. Although, a 5-3 win against Chelsea with no assist or goal from Ramsey worries me.

Very unlucky on Ramsey to be honest. Twice he was the assist to the assist.

If you can afford Ramsey/Roo that'll be good if you're not yet convinced by the RVP bandwagon.

So hope Rooney rips Sunderland to bits, then watch the doubters panic to get him back.don't think he deserved all the transfers out, awesome fixtures and still on penalties and free kicks, so gotta be well worth having him at home this weekend.

Huntelaar is currently off the pitch having treatment after a nasty clash of heads with team-mate Joel Matip. Schalke down to ten men at the moment.

The match has just finished 0-0. Larnaka were much closer to scoring in the end and squandered a number of late chances. Huntelaar never came back onto the pitch after his injury and there are fears that he's broken his nose.

Defenders... Struggling to find some good options, Can afford Baines so he may be an option? Losing Kompany for now. Evans/Jones maybe?

Defense at moment is Kompany, Bosingwa, Enrique, Brown, Simpson.

Meanwhile Man Utd reserves beat Everton reserves tonight. More importantly Rafael did not feature...obviously deemed not quite ready. Great news for Phil Jones fans....99 per cent certain to start at RB at the weekend.

United: Amos; Vermijl, Fornasier, M.Keane, Fryers (McGinty 46); Cole, Petrucci, Pogba (Thorpe 88), Lingard; Diouf, W.Keane (Cofie 90). Subs not used: Coll, Morrison.

Agree Jonty. It's stupid that Ginger bollox (Moyes) won't start the lad. He said that it would "expose" him to the bigger clubs. As if he hasn't already been..

    Evening all.

Has anyone thought about the dreaded Man City rotation this weekend from a different slant?

City's next match is 14 days after this next one, why would he do anything but play what he believes to be his strongest team? If anything, playing Silva could earn him two weeks rest with the maestro being subbed off 60 mins plus either genuinely injured or faking it. It's only friendlies for the internationals.

That said, I'm still stuck with Nasri, can never tell if he'll play. I keep saying I'll shove him out, was 0.1 off doing him to VDV the other week (got him for Nani through gritted teeth) so I'm still stuck with the arch nemesis of Newt & Sigourney Weaver.
